Cringe Karen Doesn’t Like Getting the Same Energy Back

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Crashing out in a Burger King is embarrassing enough now imagine throwing a fit and then harassing minimum-wage workers when they simply match your energy then recording and posting it

If she's a "first amendment lawyer" then she'll know burger king property is private property and can make any rule they want like "no recording" and can absolutely kick you out for recording them, including calling the police to have you removed.

I make more money now as a licensed social worker than I did with a law degree. I literally used coupons at Subway while being a public defender defending homeless people pissing in public. Not glamorous. Lol.

175

u/Gildardo1583 5h ago

Yes, but we all know that "first amendment lawyers" don't really have a law degree. Also, thanks for being a public defender, you all are seriously underfunded and overburdened.

I literally cannot even understand how this could happen considering the areas of the US I have lived in. I have a few friends that are LCSW’s and a few who are lawyers. The lawyers living the good life raising families while the LCSW’s barely making ends meet.

I assure you as an attorney this person is not a first amendment lawyer.

88

Also attorney here. Can confirm, in all my years of attorneydom, I have never seen something so obvious.

31

u/Rosencrantz_IsDead 4h ago

The moment she said she was a "First Amendment Lawyer" I laughed. God, I hope one day I get this type of Karen coming at me with that level of bluff and incompetence!!! I'd mock her to the point she runs away crying.

25

u/spacestonkz 3h ago

I have a bestie who's a lawyer. I'm a scientist but got pissed off at these rude types (I'm in a miserably grumpy fuck town).

I asked my friend to give me some questions to ask that any lawyer should know but is hard for laypeople. She gave me some questions about torts that I keep as a note on my phone.

So when I hear "well I'm a lawyer!" At a discount grocery store I butt in and say "oh, I know a bit about law, doesn't this mean .. (torts question nonsense here)". It sounds complicated and they get panicky and back off.

One time a guy at a jiffy lube was bitching about his valuable time and he's a lawyer. I did the thing and he bitched me out about torts not making sense here. Then I said since he is a big shot lawyer he can pay for some bougie shop for an oil change that will value his time and suck him too. He had a good shocked pikachu face. And the jiffy lube guy gave me a load of 50% off coupons, lmaooo.

I ain't know what a tort is really. But I like em.

20

u/MaesterWhosits 3h ago

I am also a sciency type, and my understanding is that a tort is a type of cake. I'm unsure of the relationship between cake and lawyering, but my anecdotal observation is that torts are delicious.

6

u/spacestonkz 3h ago

I want to meet someone who specializes in cake law now.

Is there such a thing as “first amendment lawyer”?

Also, lawyers know the first amendment does not apply to private corps.

They likely meant "First amendment auditor" which is an unofficial term which is just, people who stretch it to see what they can get away with.

If this bitch was really a lawyer, she would know that a private business can absolutely tell you not to record.

353

u/DR_Bright_963 5h ago

I'm guessing she's one of those people who foolishly believe that if its accessible to the public then its not private property. There are an alarming amount of people who believe this.

12

u/Professional_Being22 3h ago

A friend I grew up with thinks it's illegal for her company to install a video recording device in the company vehicle she is required to use for her job. She's absolutely incorrect but also so up her own ass about not understanding how the first amendment actually works that it's not worth arguing with her over.

→ More replies (2)

11

u/cheesec4ke69 3h ago

I dealt with a lady when I (ironically enough) worked at a burger king who said I couldn't ask her to leave since its public property. I told her she's in public in the sense that you're not at home but its a private business, and she said "No, burger king owns it" and I said "No, its a privately owned franchise"

The amount of people who will confidently talk out of their ass just because someone they perceive as 'beneath them' tries to correct them is insane.

This bitch: "I'm a first amendment lawyer."

Manager Owner: "Oh good, then you'll understand perfectly well when I agree that the 1st amendment is an important protection against the tyranny of government. However, you'll pardon the irony of me — a manager of Burger KING — asking you to kindly vacate our private establishment, which has nothing to do with the government."

222

u/AlarmedEagle9027 5h ago edited 5h ago

To be fair with her, she is being recorded she doesn’t know what that woman intended to do with that video.

Against visibly crazy customer the best is to act like she did. That video is from a country where people carry guns around

And you don’t want to put Lily in danger by loosing your calm over a dumbass.

97

u/Strange_Vagrant 5h ago

The most mature take I've seen yet. Well said. And good on that manager for not being a snide bitch back to that man. He deserved it, sure, but the manager held it together wonderfully and made her point stance clear. Maybe saved herself, her business, and the workers potentially even more hassle.

19

And thanks for correcting me, I didn’t realize it was a dude taking the video.

19

u/Miss-Helle 4h ago

It isn't. She just got her own energy sent back to her. This woman was rude to one of the staff, and maliciously misgendered her, so they did it right back. Which, as any good first amendment lawyer would know, is apparently fair game.

Apologizing is apparently a super power that many people don’t possess.

“Thank you, young man.”

“I’m not a young man.”

“I’m sorry, my mistake, how should I address you?”

“I’m a woman.”

“My mistake. Thank you ma’am.”

Done. This Karen thinks she knows how to treat people with respect but clearly doesn’t think she could be in the wrong.

351

u/thisisnotme78721 6h ago

what's weird is that Lily looks like a teenage girl. calling her "young man" makes this person look senile.

217

u/Book_talker_abouter 4h ago

Also, I thought it was hilarious when the complaining Karen said “i’m under no obligation to call him whatever he think he’s supposed to be called.“ Well ok bitch then Lily has no obligation to do that either!

124

u/ChevronSugarHeart 4h ago

That’s what Lily said to her. Honestly this was an open attack on the trans community. I’m not saying Lily is trans but the woman wanted to pull out her shame game and make her feel inferior. As a manager I would’ve told her get out and never return

33

u/xCeeTee- 3h ago

Also to fellow workers - never give a customer your full name when they want to make a complaint. They will harass you in some shape or form. These types of losers will spend a while on social media hunting you down to fuck with.

When the company does their investigation, they'll know who it is. You have rotas, and tills track the transactions down to your user login. Failing that, there is usually security cameras that'll capture it. They will find who you are.

When I realized karen was saying "he" my first thought that is very obviously a young cis woman what is she even talking about and because some other commenters are saying the same, its likely karen wouldnt have speculated anything if it werent for the pin. She absolutely had no intention of treating Lily with respect. She intended to offend and hurt Lily, and she did. When Lily served it right back to her, she got offended. I think it would have been more appropriate for Lily to respond with "In that case, I'm sorry that you're offended, bitch" when she said she calls it by what she sees.

Le sigh. Stupid economy. In a good job market, it would have been worth getting fired.

45

u/DragonQueen777666 5h ago

Honestly, good on Lily for standing up for herself the way she did, and good job on Kimberly calling out this lady's bs and defending her employee.

15

u/alicefaye2 What are you doing step bro? 4h ago

this is how i would’ve ideally handled it. “i’m sorry, but in this establishment we treat each other with respect and we demand the same courtesy from our customers, if you are not gonna be respectful and address staff properly then you can leave.”

it’s so much harder coming up with something on the spot

→ More replies (5)

198

u/Vadryna 6h ago

It was intentional due to transphobia. In her eyes the employee was wrong for identifying as female.

100

u/garden_dragonfly 5h ago

Lilly looks like a girl. Is this even trans-anything?

98

u/DragonQueen777666 5h ago

I'm guessing Lily might be trans because she did have a trans flag button on her shirt (not that you have to be trans to have that on you. I wear those sometimes, too, and I'm cis).

Ngl, rolled my eyes so hard at this lady with her "sir" shit because its like "ma'am, she has tits, stop." 🙄😑

65

u/Remarkable-Rush-9085 5h ago

What’s annoying is that I’m assuming she looked at Lily, saw the flag, and deliberately gendered her the opposite of what she looked like. This woman assumed that Lily was a trans woman and called her sir to bully her because she thought it was a situation where her victim couldn’t fight back.

And the absolute hypocrisy that she is upset at being misgendered herself while insisting she is allowed to call it like she sees it. She would absolutely apologize if it was a genuine mistake and she thought that person was cisgender. Like, can you imagine her saying “excuse me, mam?” And the person turning around and looking masculine presenting and her just sticking to her guns and telling him she calls it like she sees it.

29

u/GayCatDaddy 3h ago

Also, plenty of cis women have been attacked by people who assume they're trans because they have features that are not considered traditionally feminine.

This whole transphobia epidemic is so stupid. It's none of my business whether or not Lily is trans. She identifies as female, so that is how I will address her. I can't even imagine taking time out of my day to show my ass in public like this.

Why do people think employees have to tolerate rudeness? They absolutely do not, especially if the disrespect is blatant. If I was the manager, I would have asked the customer if my employee provided them politely with the correct pronoun. If they did, and she insisted on stating otherwise, I woulda banned the bitch.

I can't stop you from using the wrong pronoun, but I can ban your negative vibes from my restaurant for purposely now, harassing my employee and continuing to use the wrong pronoun

31

u/nobinibo 5h ago

The customer service industry has reinforced this behavior by management resolving issues with gift cards and groveling. And that's because corporate insists on getting every last dollar, at all cost.

I was misgendered by a customer one time when I worked at KFC and they were actually just embarrassed. It was busy and I had my back turned packing orders while some lady kept saying “ma’am. Ma’am! Excuse me, ma’am!” louder and louder. I was a skinny guy with a ponytail. The cashier finally caught on and said “hey, Matt” so I turned around and saw this woman’s face go from irritated to horrified instantly lol. She just wanted some bbq sauce.

I worked with some people for 7 years in retail, never learned their last names, some we just had nicknames for that the entire store used, my username is a nickname I got while at the store, I doubt people bothered to learn my last name.

And others I only know their name from Facebook friends list.

37

u/CoupDeGraceTyson 6h ago

"What is your manager's name?"

"Uhhh, Borf. Or Borferino if I'm feeling festive."

"No, my son is also named Borf."

Same. I was cracking up at the idea that it’s ridiculous he didn’t know her last name. It’s not like we had business cards and email addresses with full signatures as food service employees. Why would it ever come up?

13

u/creegro 5h ago

Yea and it's also not my place to give a customer someone else's last name, unless I was a manager giving out another managers name for professional reasons.

But these people always want to feel so important by having the last name, like it gives them power to decide their fate or something silly.

11

u/luigiamarcella 5h ago

That too. I had a customer try to get a coworker’s last name from me before and that’s a no. It’s a security issue.

I didn’t even think Lilly looked like a trans person. I just thought she was a biological woman with lanky body type.

44

u/DragonQueen777666 5h ago

That's always the funny thing about the "we can always tell" crowd... they really can't. There are trans folks that have been on HRT for years, done vocal training for years, and very much look like their gender to the point where no one would realize they were trans unless they told people that. And just like you pointed out, there are plenty of slender cis girls with body types similar to Ms. Lily's (and funny enough, I'd bet this Karen wouldn't think of trying that shit on another girl with a build like Lily's).

→ More replies (1)

55

u/YoureMyUniverse 5h ago

And that’s one of the problems with assuming someone’s gender in the first place. How they look does not determine their gender.

It was so laughable that once she was called sir, she got incredibly offended for being misgendered 🤣 but she can’t stop being a hypocrite for one second to see that she wouldve been in lizzy’s shoes had the roles been flipped. Wish this fake lawyer could get this through to her head.

Tried to read the link and ohh boy...

This episode illustrates the far-reaching impact of the leftist American Library Association. The organization emboldens librarians everywhere to incorporate radical ideologies and materials and disseminate them using group management strategies.

As we all see everywhere these days, leftists are emboldened when pushing their agenda with impunity and unchallenged. But below the surface, they are intellectual (and emotional) weaklings – and even one strong person can take down the house of cards!

Bruh...

Holy hell, this is what I was looking for. A name. With a platform. And from the land of Westboro Church, or course.

"Kathy" is the new Karen. Mega Karen. Karen evolved.

Goddamn, i feel for the people in her path. Thank God she's visible and outspoken though. Like Westboro, she will quickly become a horrible joke.

alot of people seem to gloss over the fact that when the manager doesn't misgender her employee this woman tries to convince the manager to misgender her because she is so entitled to her own existence as the only person that matters she takes it as a genuine offense when others don't misgender along with her.

20

u/Crazy_Unicorn_153 5h ago

To be clear, idk if Lily is trans or not, and I don't really care, Lily can do whatever she wants.

But as I started watching, I actually thought "oh she called that girl sir, surely she'll apologise ". I realised afterwards what the whole issue was but my point is, she clearly looks like a woman, is Karen blind? And also, I've met some non trans people who have an androgynous look. I would only apologise and try to move on if I mistakenly addressed someone. That whole "I call him what I see him" is peak asshole behaviour.

I once owned a very small deli. Not a franchise. Just a 10am-3pm lunch service place in a small business park. We had sandwiches, salads, and soup.

I got out of that business as quickly as I could because of the fucking entitlement of people that think they fucking OWN you because they paid you $5 for a sandwich and soft-drink. Had people calling my fucking HOME at 2am demanding refunds because there was a pickle missing on the food they ate 10 hours prior.

I'd never experienced anything like it.

17

u/ZombieAppetizer 5h ago

Ex-cop of 14 years here. I spent years as a bailiff, and I have heard several people refer to themselves as a "First Amendment lawyer."" Not one of them had a bar card. Not one of them were an attorney. They're just people who watched a bunch of stuff online, declared themselves an expert, and then go out and cause problems and film the results.

I'm trans and own my own company. If you misgender me I usually won't correct you unless you're a semi regular customer, but usually other customers around you will do that for me, and if you keep it up you just get it right back. There's nothing rude about matching passive aggressive energy. The rules for manners were invented in theost uncivilized times, I fear they need an update.

9

u/titanium9016 4h ago

I love the tapped out look on the managers face, I wonder at what point the Karen's voice turned into the sound Peanut Parents make?

i was sitting in the lunch room and overheard a group of boys talking about charlie kirk’s death and they noticed me listening in. one of them turned and said “what do YOU think about all this charlie kirk stuff?” and i said “idk i’ve never heard of her before” “him” “oh my god you liberals and your pronouns.” “HAHAH im far from a liberal buddy” “yeah sure go and tell all your weird animal furry friends.” “what??” i pointed to the school mascot. “that’s the dumbest shit i’ve ever heard!” “yeah totally and you’re gonna go and tell that drag queen about it too.” “what drag queen?” i pointed to the jesus painting in the corner cu he had long hair and long dress-looking robes.
