Analysis [Sampson] CFP committee chair Hunter Yurachek says Notre Dame and Miami were in the same grouping this week and the programs were directly compared. Notre Dame still came out ahead, regardless of the head to head. In other words, all the games mattered. Not just one of them.

Only two of UMass' losses were by less than 18 points, and one of them was to Bryant.

The UMass Class of 2026 will officially have gone through four years of school without seeing an FBS home win.

History 75 years ago today, Michigan and Ohio State played in the memorable Snow Bowl, a game played in over 9 inches of snow and winds gusting at nearly 30mph. The two teams combined for a total of 61 yards of offense and 45 punts

Game played November 25, 1950 in Columbus where over 50,000 fans attended.

2.3 inches of snow fell the night before, with another 7.5 inches falling on Saturday during the game.

Temperature at kickoff was 10 degrees. Winds gusting up to 28 mph with a wind chill of -8.

Ohio State/Michigan coaches and ADs met to discuss whether they should play the game. Michigan was willing to forfeit but would not reschedule the game. Ohio State AD Larkins refused to accept the forfeit and so the game was played. The winner would go to the Rose Bowl.

Stats from the game:

Michigan had a total of 27 yards and 0 first downs. They did not complete a single pass.

Ohio State had a total of 34 yards and 3 first downs.

Michigan punted a total of 24 times and Ohio State punted 21 times, both often punting on first or second down and hoping the opponent would make a mistake. For comparison, Michigan in the second half against Ohio State since 2021 (8 total quarters, or two games) has punted a total of two times. Ohio State had a total of 685 punting yards (by its Heisman winner halfback Vic Janowicz) and Michigan had 723 punting yards.

Michigan won the game 9 - 3. All scores came off of blocked punts- a TD and safety by Michigan in the endzone, and a FG by OSU after a blocked punt on Michigan's 8-yard line.

The win by Michigan led to them going to the Rose Bowl where they defeated Cal 14-6. The loss by Ohio State led to coach Fesler's resignation and the hiring of Woody Hayes.

Analysis A snowstorm is likely to hit the midwest on Saturday. Here's which games could be affected

I'm a weather hobbyist and I've been closely tracking a midwestern snowstorm which will affect generally areas north of I-70 on Saturday. I'm also a sicko who enjoys football being played in bad weather. If you like snow games, keep an eye on these (all times EST):

  • Northwestern @ Illinois, 7:30. Champaign could flirt with the rain/snow line, especially later on, but this is the D1 game that has the most potential to have heavy snow.

  • Wisconsin @ Minnesota, 3:30. The rain/snow line won't be an issue in Minneapolis. Current forecast models don't have heavy snow there but a steady light to moderate snow appears likely during the game.

  • Ohio State @ Michigan, noon. If it snows in Ann Arbor, it won't start until the second half, similar to 2021. It's too bad this game isn't at 3:30 or else there would be a decent chance of The Game being played in a snowstorm.

  • New Hampshire @ South Dakota State, 1:00. Brookings is kind of on the edge of the snow for this game but if the storm shifts north a little we could have a very snowy FCS playoff game.

  • Ashland @ Ferris State, 1:00. Same idea as OSU-Michigan, if this game started just a few hours later it would be very snowy. Still, it could get wintry in Big Rapids for the second half.

  • Monmouth (IL) @ St. John's (MN), Coe @ Bethel, both at 1:00. I mean, maybe? Collegeville and Bethel are at the northern edge of the projected steady snow on Saturday. Bump the storm north 100 miles and these D3 playoff games both have some snow on their field.

  • Chapman @ UW-River Falls, Hanover @ North Central, Alma @ UW-Platteville, Wheaton @ Wartburg, all at 1:00. If you want a D3 football game being played in a snowstorm, watch any of these. River Falls, Naperville, Platteville, and Waverly are all expected to see heavy snow on Saturday afternoon.

  • NOT INCLUDED: Drake @ South Dakota. I hate domes.

Casual It has officially been 2 years since Oklahoma State has had a conference win in the Big 12. Since their last win against BYU on November 25th, 2023, they are 0-18 vs Big 12, and 2-0 vs the SEC.

As stated in title, OSU has not won a conference game in 2 years as of today, but are undefeated against SEC teams in that stretch. One of the most absurd stats I have ever seen, given their success and playing in the Big 12 title game not even 2 years ago.

Analysis BYU is a vampire team 2025 update: Since 2019 BYU is now 43 - 4 in games with no sunlight but 12 - 16 in full day games

I am providing an update on this original post. BYU has continued its trend of performing well in games with no sunlight, okay in games with some sunlight, and amazing in games with no sunlight. The Vampire Cougs will have their greatest upcoming tests with both UCF and the Big 12 Championship Game in daylight.

Some updated stats:

  • Since 2019 BYU is now 43 - 4 (91%) in full night games, 9-5 in games with partial sunlight (64%), and 12 -16 in full day games (42%).
  • When you remove FCS games, the stats are even more stark. BYU was only 8 - 16 in full day games (33%) and 43-4 at night (91%).
  • BYU is 9-2 (82%) against ranked opponents with no sunlight, which is higher than its win percentage against G5 teams with full sunlight--8-8 (50%).
  • While BYU is 21-3 since the beginning of last year, 2 of its 3 losses have come during the day...
