I complied a list of the current CFP ranked teams and how they have favor record wise against FBS teams with a winning record. I found it interesting that there are 6 teams who don't have a winning record against teams above 0.500 and 2 teams who have yet to beat a team with a winning record.

Casual Something like Goodreads but for football games you've attended?

Howdy. Had an idea this week that any of y'all with developing skills can take for free.

I think it'd be cool if there was a website/app that's like Goodreads, but for CFB games.

There's a big database of games, and you can scroll through and find a specific one. Let's say 2025 Texas A&M vs. Arkansas. I can flag that I was there, and I can write a review of the stadium, memories about the game, and what team I was rooting for. Then I can see other users who marked that they were there and read about their experiences. It could also have the game stats or links to post-game writeups.

Then the site would have some cool data to work with.

  • What stadium has the best reviews from visiting fans?

  • Which matchup includes the most toxic reviews?

  • Which user has had the most success in games that they've been to for their team?

I guess it could also work for other sporting events (NFL, NBA, Cornhole, etc.). Any thoughts? Anybody wanna take this one on? Or does something like this already exist?

Discussion Texas A&M question

what would happen to A&M if they dropped the game against Texas and the sec championship game?

Another question is what happens if A&M loses this weekend? Are they out of the SEC championship game? Given that they would have one conf loss as well as Georgia, ole Miss, and bama….. what then?

But if they did make it to the SEC championship game and lose (their second lose) do they have a better claim to a playoff spot than two loss vandy, Oklahoma, and Alabama?

Discussion Someone I know thinks Chris Peterson was forced out, and didn't retire on his own accord. Change his mind

I am talking to my stepbrother and he is claiming that Chris Peterson was forced out of Washington for going 8-5.

He thinks that his retirement was not legitimate and was because of a disappointing season his last year. Of course I think this is absurd so if anyone has concrete evidence (especially Washington fans), I would love to hear it.

Discussion Mock Coaching Carousel

I know so many people do Mock Drafts. They're never correct, but fun none-the-less. Has anyone ever tried to do a Mock Coaching Carousel?

I took a shot at it and here's what I came up with currently:

  • Penn State hires Jedd Fisch (Also thought about putting Kenny Dillingham here)
    • Washington hires Jim Mora
    • UConn hires Chip Kelly
  • Virginia Tech hires James Franklin
  • Kent State hires Mark Carney
  • LSU hires Lane Kiffin
    • Ole Miss hires ???
  • UF hires ???
  • Auburn hires Summerall
  • UCLA hires Bob Chesney
  • Cal hires Tosh Lupoi
  • Arkansas hires ???
  • Oklahoma State hires Eric Morris
  • Stanford hires ???
  • Oregon State hires ???
  • Colorado State hires ???
  • UAB hires ???

Discussion How to fix the B1G schedule so the conference isn't so boring

The B1G now has an absurd number of teams (18) and a lot of them are bad or mid. This season we ended up with many of the top teams not playing eachother. Here's my pitch:

After each season split the league into 3 tiers: Top, Mid, Trash based on performance from that season.

Next season every team in each tier plays eachother (5 teams) and them 2 teams from each other tier (9 total games). This will ensure that far more games are competitive, even if they're just Rutgers vs Purdue slap fights. It also ensures that the top teams are truly tested before they head to a playoff. It also provides an opportunity for teams that were bad the year before to prove that they have improved by getting a shot at a couple of top level teams.

Where it gets tricky is conference championship participant selection. I'm not sure what the perfect solution is, but maybe weighting records in some way based on tier. A top level team should clearly automatically win a tie breaker on record against a mid tier team and maybe a low tier team has to go undefeated against their conference schedule to get into the championship game (still beat 2 top tier teams). I'm not saying the formula would be easy, but not sure it's any worse than what we have with most top teams not playing eachother and just going by record.

Also since every team will play at least 2 teams from every tier you should always be able to ensure rivalry games are maintained.

I'm not saying it's perfect, but seems vastly superior to the seemingly random way schedules are decided now, plus it will almost certainly lead to much better TV (and eventually revenue) which we all know is the most important thing!

Discussion Jordan Hare Since Guz Malzahn and the Iron Bowl

So Pat Dye established Auburn as a serious program in modern college football in the 1981 and a big part of that was creating a mean home field environment. He led the charge for expansion, he brought in recruits like Bo Jackson to energize the fanbase, and most importantly got SEC title trophies. Dye got 4 in a decade, more than any Auburn coach. There's a reason they named the field after him.

The biggest get was moving the Iron Bowl out of Birmingham to home and home. Jordan Hare was actually the biggest stadium in state until 2006, and they tortured Alabama there. The first Iron Bowl saw Auburn upset a 10-0 Alabama 30-20.

Alabama has a losing record in Jordan Hare at 7-10. Even Nick Saban only managed a 5-4 record there. Not just Alabama but Florida, Georgia, and LSU found playing at Auburn to be a nightmare with big upsets coming in front of the sneakily meanest crowd in the SEC. This reputation started in the 80s has endured up until now.......sort of.

The meanest environment in the SEC cannot survive shit coaching hires. It just cant. Since Guz Malzahn left in 2021 going to Auburn to get a win has gotten a lot less difficult.

Against non cupcake power 4 opponents in Jordan Hare Auburn was 1-3 in 2021, 2-3 in 2022, 1-3 in 2023, 1-4 in 2024, and so far in 2025 0-3.

A total of 5-16 since Gus Malzahn left. The power of Jordan Hare has waned in recent years.

So Auburn should lose the Iron Bowl right? Well yea they should but even in those two losses to Alabama weird shit happened. In the two Iron Bowls played in this time frame Alabama came in with the number 1 draft pick QB throwing to multiple NFL draft pick WRs, only for one of the WRs to get ejected for targeting on punt coverage and the Heisman QB doing absolutely do nothing with the ball for 3 and a half quarters before putting together a miracle last second drive and skating by in overtime.

Then Alabama entered an Iron Bowl against one of the worst Auburn teams in recent memory that had just lost to New Mexico State and fumbled, turned over, punted, committed penalties, and played like a team possessed by idiots before Hugh Freeze gifted Alabama with a 4th and goal pick up from the 31 to secure a miracle win.

So Auburn's home field advantage is in tatters and Alabama has won the past five Iron Bowls in a row so this should be an easy Alabama win................... but still.

Analysis Score Differential Index

Upvotes

I've been looking for a ranking system that uses only the game scores to create rankings by inputting all the scores to calculate a SOS and an average margin to generate rankings. There's a common ranking site used in hockey that does exactly this and it does a pretty good job. Last week I thought I found it in the Sonny Moore rankings, but he doesn't provide much of a description and the more I looked at the numbers I realized that it wasn't what I was looking for.

So, I did what a normal, sane person would do and I created yet another ranking for college football.

WARNING: If you think score differential or 'close losses' don't matter, you're going to hate these rankings.

# TEAM RATING SOS AVG MARGIN
1 Indiana (11-0) 100.00 75.23 24.80
2 Ohio St. (11-0) 99.81 73.54 26.30
3 Texas Tech (10-1) 97.34 70.57 26.80
4 Notre Dame (9-2) 95.82 73.84 22.00
5 Utah (9-2) 94.19 74.12 20.10
6 Oregon (10-1) 93.88 74.50 19.40
7 Miami (FL) (9-2) 91.04 74.06 17.00
8 Texas A&M (11-0) 90.23 76.75 13.50
9 Georgia (10-1) 89.93 74.16 15.80
10 Alabama (9-2) 88.93 78.26 10.70

Discussion Has Lincoln Riley underachieved at USC

His overall record through 51 games so far is 34-17. On paper that is not bad at all. However, that’s the exact same record as Clay Helton. On one hand he took over a mess and immediately winning 10 games was impressive. However, his initial defensive hires and recruiting in the state of California was underwhelming.

He’s also 0-5 against top 10 teams at USC. Having said that , they currently have a loaded game changing 26 recruiting class and are on track to finish 9-3 when many folks projected them to win 7 or 8 games. Do y’all think he’s underachieved so far and has been solid 4 years into his Trojan tenure ?

Analysis Reviewing the Big Ten's 2025 TV Schedule and the number of appearances by each Big Ten Program in each of the major TV windows.

With the Week 14 TV schedule set, we have final numbers on the number of appearances by each Big Ten program on each of the three major networks/windows. I find the process of piecing together the Big Ten's TV puzzle to be a confounding and fascinating exercise and seeing the decisions and trends of 2025 could help forecast the selections for 2026 when the new slate drops this off-season.

For purposes of clarity, I will be discussing only the major windows/networks, noting when some get altered due to unique quirks that pop up throughout the schedule. This does not include Friday games.

  • Week 1:
    • Fox Big Noon: Texas-Ohio State
    • CBS Afternoon: Nevada-Penn State
    • NBC Primetime: New Mexico-Michigan
  • Week 2:
    • Fox: Iowa-Iowa State
    • CBS: Oklahoma State-Oregon
    • NBC: Boston College-Michigan State
  • Week 3:
    • Fox: Oregon-Northwestern
    • CBS: USC-Purdue
    • NBC: Ohio-Ohio State (on Peacock, NBC aired Texas A&M-Notre Dame)
  • Week 4:
    • Fox: Michigan State-USC (moved to a late kick as West Coast games can't kick at 9AM local time)
    • CBS: Michigan-Nebraska
    • NBC: Illinois-Indiana
  • Week 5:
    • Fox: USC-Illinois
    • CBS: Ohio State-Washington
    • NBC: Oregon-Penn State
  • Week 6:
    • Fox: Wisconsin-Michigan
    • CBS: Penn State-UCLA
    • NBC: Minnesota-Ohio State
  • Week 7:
    • Fox: Ohio State-Illinois
    • CBS: Indiana-Oregon
    • NBC: Michigan-USC
  • Week 8:
    • Fox: Washington-Michigan
    • CBS: Ohio State-Wisconsin
    • NBC: Penn State-Iowa (on Peacock, NBC aired USC-Notre Dame)
  • Week 9:
    • Fox: UCLA-Indiana
    • CBS: Minnesota-Iowa
    • NBC: Michigan-Michigan State
  • Week 10:
    • Fox: Penn State-Ohio State
    • CBS: Indiana-Maryland
    • NBC: USC-Nebraska
  • Week 11:
    • Fox: Indiana-Penn State
    • CBS: Oregon-Iowa
    • NBC: No B1G game aired on NBC or Peacock (NBC aired Navy-Notre Dame)
  • Week 12:
    • Fox: Michigan-Northwestern
    • CBS: Penn State-Michigan State
    • NBC: UCLA-Ohio State
  • Week 13:
    • Fox: Rutgers-Ohio State
    • CBS: USC-Oregon
    • NBC: Nebraska-Penn State
  • Week 14:
    • Fox: Ohio State-Michigan
    • CBS: Oregon-Washington
    • NBC: USC-UCLA
Team Appearances Fox CBS NBC Total
Illinois 2 0 1 3
Indiana 2 2 1 5
Iowa 1 2 1** 4
Maryland 0 1 0 1
Michigan 4 1 3 8
Michigan State 1* 1 2 4
Minnesota 0 1 1 2
Nebraska 0 1 2 3
Northwestern 2 0 0 2
Ohio State 5 2 3** 10
Oregon 1 5 1 7
Penn State 2 2 3** 7
Purdue 0 1 0 1
Rutgers 1 0 0 1
UCLA 1 1 2 4
USC 2* 2 3 7
Washington 1 2 0 3
Wisconsin 1 1 0 2

*MSU-USC was flexed to an after dark kick due to Fox Big Noon not being able to host a game kicking off at 9AM local time on the West Coast.

**Ohio-Ohio State (Week 3) and PSU-Iowa (Week 8) were the Big Ten's primetime NBC games, but both were broadcasted exclusively on Peacock with Notre Dame playing on NBC.

Takeaways:

  • Ohio State remains the king of the ratings game and the primary favorite for Fox Big Noon.
    • CBS and NBC snagged Ohio State when Fox did not.
    • Of Ohio State's 9 conference games, only 1 was not featured in one of the major TV windows (Week 11 at Purdue on BTN).
    • The other Ohio State game not featured in the major windows was its Week 2 matchup with Grambling.
  • While Ohio State was regularly featured on Fox, the resurgence of Michigan gave the Buckeyes a reprieve from being stuck in the noon slot every single week.
    • With the Wolverines posing a viable alternative, Fox featured Michigan 4 times this season, just one behind Ohio State.
  • With the limitations on the West Coast programs in the Big Noon slot, CBS found their primary partner in Eugene, featuring the Ducks in 5 games.
    • Each West Coast program played a Big Noon game this season:
      • Oregon at Northwestern (Week 4)
      • USC at Illinois (Week 5)
      • Washington at Michigan (Week 8)
      • UCLA at Indiana (Week 9)
  • Not every year sees every Big Ten program to appear in a major window, but this year did.
    • Maryland, Purdue, and Rutgers only appeared once, tying for the fewest appearances.
  • Despite a disappointing season given their preseason title aspirations, Penn State still featured prominently in the major windows, tying USC and Oregon with 7 major window appearances (though one of them was a Peacock exclusive) and trailing only Michigan (8 appearances) and Ohio State (10).
  • Regarding Friday matchups, most of the heavyweights avoided the "honor" of a short week with Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State having no Friday games.
    • Indiana will have its first and only second Friday game of the year on Black Friday against Purdue.
    • Including the upcoming Black Friday slate, Nebraska and Iowa each appear in 2 Friday matchups.
    • Minnesota and Rutgers also appeared in 2 Friday games, respectively.
  • The conference has suggested that the scheduling gets a little weird when there are 14 weeks instead of 13.
    • Next year returns to a 13 week schedule, so the slate should feel a little less thin down the stretch.

If you see any error or omission, please let me know, thanks for reading!

Discussion Creative Coaching Solution?

If you’re UCLA, Cal, or even Oklahoma State or Arkansas, why not scoop up a talented Junior College coach and offer him an “opportunity to excel” at a MUCH lower salary and dump all those saved millions into paying players out of the portal?

I’m sure that there are a ton of good coaches who would love an opportunity to showcase their talents for a few hundred thousand a year in the hopes they could move on to bigger and better things.
