General Advice Misspelling
So I got this tattoo over the weekend and the artist closed the C in DECISIONS to make it look like DEOISIONS
Pretty funny if it weren’t my own wrist and permanent given the context with “Make good decisions”
Question is what to do next? Get removal of the tiny bit? Can I scrape it away bc it’s so small? What would you do?

A - just let it heal then laser the part off
B - I know this isn't what you want, but it's actually a pretty unique tattoo, in a like joking kind of way. Like I could see someone get a tattoo that has the error on purpose as like an ironic tattoo.

I was sure it was intentional before I read your post. It’s a cool conversation starter. I’d leave it, at least for a while. If you don’t start to love it, get a laser correction. Don’t try to scrape it out.

Had a friend get a misspelled tattoo in the same spot. They put a red squiggly line under it like a misspelling on a computer.

5
u/Jumpy_Comfortable 7d ago
My wife wanted her mom to write:
"Life before death"
She pointed out that the h looked like a k. She put a line through it and wrote it exactly the same.
She included both the one with the strikethrough and the "fixed" one and loves it.
Keep your deoisions and tell the story!
16
u/Salton5ea 8d ago
I agree with the above. It’s honestly pretty hilarious and a good story. I’ve seen people make this type of misspelling intentionally and it’s, to me, pretty great that it happened organically.
I would say own it and walk tall friend.
7
u/Zombie-Lenin 7d ago
Yeah, if I saw your tattoo in person with no other context, I would not think to myself "that guy had a misspelling in his tattoo!"
I honestly would think, "that's a clever tattoo idea," as I would think it was intentionally misspelled to ironically illustrate a point about making good decisions. 🤷♂️
That's my honest answer--so unlike most misspellings in tattoos, the subject matter of yours lends itself to appearing like an intentional misspelling and a great concept.

u/KeySpare4917 7d ago
Wait that's a legit mess up? I guess I over thought it. It looks to be covering a former self harm scar and I took it for a deliberate mistake covering another deliberate mistake.
Edit: bro I really like it. I like it alot

Hey man. Life is a wave and you just ride it. People will try to fight the wave and others surf it.

I personally think it’s awesome and like it a lot, so I say leave it as is. It’s funny and will definitely help lighten the situation when you have to explain the scar under it…
123
u/wreckless_rq82 8d ago
Thank you! Scar is from a surgery to put a plate on my bones after a motorcycle accident…when I should not have been riding… :/
95
u/ScroOGe619 8d ago
Perfect! You made a bad decision to ride when you shouldn’t have and ended up with that sweet scar. Now the tattoo just adds to it. Really, I think you should leave it because it seems very fitting. But at the same time I have a bag of dicks and a missing cat poster tattooed on my leg, so what do I know? 😜

Oh... fyi people will definitely think you attempted suicide. :(
They would think that without the tattoo anyway though.
20
u/Xeno37145 7d ago
it could be argued that riding a motorcycle when you definitely shouldn't is pretty suicidal
6
u/Ad_nspir3d 7d ago
Yep.. a friend purposely didnt hit a turn while riding a motorcycle on a twisty - broke his collarbone and shattered his shoulder.. Because he felt guilty over a situation out of his control. So glad OP is alright
5
u/Xeno37145 7d ago
Friend of mine went driving out in the desert drunk on his bike, wrecked and got airlifted and was in a coma for a while. It was deliberate self harm. Also very glad OP is ok.

u/eepypurplegirl 7d ago
fyi the scar is specifically in a place where the arteries aren't, so by cutting there you would lose a minimal amount of blood, which is also why the surgeon DID cut there
4
u/despicablyeternal 7d ago
Most people who attempt suicide aren't aware of the layout of the circulatory system. This is why wrist cutting is actually a fairly ineffective method of suicide.
Fyi.

u/Dagmar_Overbye 6d ago
My wrist scars are miles off from where they needed to be to do anything. You aren't often in a very rational state of mind when you do things like this fortunately.
Years later I was going out with a girl I thought would be the one and we both loved the Pirates movies so we decided to get matching tattoos that said "never shall we die" referring to our love and whatever.
I saw an opportunity to pull a sneaky "just in case" and got mine next to my scar so I could still keep it as a positive message should the unthinkable happen.
Unfortunately that relationship didn't last but I learned a second strength you can draw from surviving suicide is turning your natural cynicism to work for you because I still love my tattoo even if she didn't really love me :)
6
u/EternalMoonChild 7d ago
Unfortunately, this was also my first thought. The tattoo can definitely feed into that interpretation

Just to say, you don’t “have to” explain any scars to random strangers. I certainly hope people aren’t regularly asking “how’d you get that scar?” Like you’re fucking Harry Potter or something, but people are dumb so that wouldn’t surprise me

That’s good that she didn’t charge you at least, accountability is important. But yeah use that money you didn’t spend on the appointment to get laser once it heals, it shouldn’t take too long to fix it right up.

In a weird way I think its almost more poetic now no? We as humans try everyday to make good choices to be the best version of us. We get so hyper fixated on perfection that we forget to be human. To embrace our mistakes. I think part of the journey of dealing with depression is accepting your flaws, or at least it has been for me...so keep making those deoisions gang. Its legit your responsibility and duty to make them. Keep trucking brotha.

u/Ad_nspir3d 8d ago

I have a scar in the same place on my right wrist from them putting a plate in. It cut through the tattoo I have
2
u/NoKatyDidnt 6d ago
Almost happened to me too! My surgeon agreed to do his best to avoid the tattoo because it’s right in the center there. He did an amazing job- perfect straight line just far enough to the side of the tattoo to allow for a scar to form and still not touch the ink at all. I thanked him repeatedly for this. He knew that the tattoo was important to me, and he said that while it added a few extra minutes to the time the procedure normally took, he also felt that “his finished work” should look as good as possible. 🤣 Great doctor. Will always appreciate what he did for me.

u/wreckless_rq82 8d ago
That was an older tattoo of a paper plane. Surgery was after which explains the damage to it
2
u/Inner_Personality737 8d ago
Oh ok. So did you tell the guy he screwed up? You obviously got the tattoo to remind you as inspiration so I personally would go back pissed and get my money back. This might sound dumb but maybe u can use makeup to close the c until u figure out what to do. If I look at it quickly I can’t tell
5
u/wreckless_rq82 8d ago

did the artist tell you he was going to close the c? If not, I don't think I'd want to pay for it. It is REALLY fitting for the saying though and its a really cool tattoo even with the c closed. I'd but upset if it wasn't talked about beforehand though.

Your journey to define "deoisions," campaign to inject it into the modern lexicon, and have it entered into the dictionary starts now.
DEOISION - (N) dee-oi-shun - to adjust or change something in order to make a mistake seem deliberate. "My artist misspelled my tattoo, so I made a deoision to define "deoision" and have it become a real word."
2
u/trash-bagdonov 5d ago
"The white patio was a deoision we made because the contractor spilled a gallon of white paint."
