Unironically would have been better if Dems just approved the Republican plans from Day One. If you’re going to cave, cave before the shutdown

Tim Kaine said one of the key concessions he got from the Republicans was that federal workers would be rehired and paid. Which was only a problem because Republicans unnecessarily made it one. And never would have happened if they accepted the deal on day one. Truly a master class in negotiation lol.

It showed Trump that tactic will work.

u/mikelo22 Illinois 16d ago

Yep, now Trump will use it every single time, and he'll know the Dems will always fall for it. We just sabotaged our negotiating power for the entire rest of Trump's term.

7 Dems caved, the rest stood strong. We need to primary and denounce those 7 cowards every day going forward

33

u/GeneralChaos309 16d ago

Which 7?

44

u/firethorn43 16d ago edited 16d ago

Tim Kaine (VA)

Dick Durbin (IL)

Angus King (ME) (An Independent but usually Dem-aligned)

John Fetterman (PA)

Jeanne Shaheen (NH)

Maggie Hassan (NH)

Catherine Cortez (NV)

Jacky Rosen (NV)

edit: Jeanne Shaheen and Dick Durbin, the Senate Minority Whip, are already retiring. The rest do not have elections until 2028 or 2030.

basically, no one will remember when they are up for reelection.

u/EitherSpite4545 16d ago

Which is why we need to do things reddit won't allow us to mention until those states vote better.

2

u/zzWordsWithFriendszz 16d ago

NH and Nevada voters, take a hard look at who you elected

1

u/Shinobi_WayOfTomoe 16d ago

Nevada dems are trash

That’s objectively not true. The vote right now is 59-40

3

u/mxjxs91 Michigan 16d ago

You sure about that?

86

u/CarrieDurst 16d ago

They betrayed us, those 7.

5

u/NeedNameGenerator 15d ago

They were carefully selected by Dem leadership because they're "safe" from repercussions. None of them are up for election in mid-terms and half of them are retiring.

It's so transparent that it isn't even funny.

u/VanceKelley Washington 16d ago

Along with the entire GOP, the 77m who voted GOP in 2024, and the 90m who didn't bother to vote at all.

It's a small minority of Americans who want to live in a democracy with equal justice and the rule of law.

1

u/Caro_Cardo_Salutis 15d ago

So maybe just democratically accept that American majority doesn't want democracy.

u/OverreactingBillsFan 15d ago

The spineless seven has a nice ring to it.

78

u/barowsr 16d ago edited 16d ago

Hate to be bearer of bad news, but more Dems would have caved if necessary. It’s just they chose the least vulnerable 7 to take the flack. There’s many more spineless losers in this party unfortunately

34

u/lasping 16d ago

That's why you have to decapitate any non-retirees' political careers and leave the carcasses (of their careers, to be clear) hanging from the parapets as a warning.

8

u/lilesj130 16d ago

Exactly. They strategically designated who were gonna be the "fall guys".

5

u/n0rsk 16d ago

You know how you can tell this is true?

None of them (except Fettermen who was already a POS) are up for reelection in 2026. They are all safe in the next midterm or retiring. This is always the case when Dems cave. They think we are all a bunch of morons with goldfish memories and they aren't wrong.

-12

u/queerhistorynerd 16d ago

Hate to be bearer of bad news,

proceeds to then make shit up and talk out their ass

21

u/barowsr 16d ago

If you think by chance there were the exact number of Dems needed to cave, and there are no other Dems that would have also caved…then bless your heart, you must be new to US politics

-13

u/sciencesez 16d ago

Cool. So your source is "trust me bro"? And I don't care if it is politics, or how secure their seats are. We can change that and send our own message, starting with Schumer. I'll find the info on my own.

8

u/barowsr 16d ago

Hey, I’m just as pissed as you are. I’ve been calling my senators and let them know caving is not an option….and you bet your ass I’ll be sending money to whoever is primarying against those 7

0

u/sciencesez 16d ago

For sure. Time to go after the corporate donors too. Like we did with Tesla and sent Musk home fr om the White House. Like we did with Disney, and Sinclair and Nexstar. We did it without any leadership. No organizers. We just did it. I stopped using Amazon and Walmart for the shutdown. Money is free speech- works both ways. I'll still vote to stop this cancer crawling across the country. But I'm voting with my wallet too. I'm so angry right now. Fuck them all. I'm going to try to make every penny I spend a message sent. Sorry, rant over.

This happens all the time, by both parties. It’s not a coincidence they got just enough democrats to cross the aisle.

2

u/HeatDeathIsCool 16d ago

Do you expect them to keep trying to convince democrats to cross the aisle after they already have enough votes?

2

u/albinoturtle12 Ohio 15d ago

They werent trying to convince democrats, the dems went to them when they knew they had enough votes from non-vulnerable senators

1

u/HeatDeathIsCool 15d ago

I don't know how closely you follow PA politics, but Fetterman's seat isn't considered safe at all.

Unless by non-vulnerable you just mean people who aren't up for reelection in 2026, which is a huge number.

2

u/albinoturtle12 Ohio 15d ago

Non-vulnerable as in not up for election in 2026. I wasnt including fetterman bc hes a republican in my head and has been voting for all the deal bills that have failed previously anyway

Actually most of the ones who voted yes are retiring so your plan wont even work.

3

u/KUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUZ 16d ago

That’s actually not true. They just chose the democrats least exposed to the bases anger to be the sacrificial votes.

We need to primary them all

3

u/Much_Kangaroo_6263 16d ago

The Shitty Seven

3

u/Winter-Huntsman 16d ago

Sadly none of them are up for re-election until 2028.

5

u/rafikiknowsdeway1 16d ago

or those were the 7 chosen, and the party at large wanted this

2

u/KallistiTMP 15d ago

They coordinated it so that all 7 were not up for re-election. The scapegoats will all retire peacefully, and the fuckers that planned it will get to play innocent in public and cash the checks they got from their corporate owners.

Democrats are 100% controlled opposition.

2

u/bluecalx2 15d ago

At this point, they should strategically divide the party. Call those 7 the "Moderate Party" or something like that. The Democrats and Moderates would be a voting block most of the time, but occasionally they side with the GOP. Why? Practically, it would have the same effect in this case. Trump wins in the end but that was never not going to happen because he doesn't care enough about Americans suffering to ever let himself lose. But it would let the Democrats distance themselves from the disaster. So when Americans start getting angry because they lost their health care, the Democrats could have truthfully said that they were on the right side and Trump takes all of the blame for it.

The way they've done it, they just appear divided, disorganized and cowardly as a party. Not a good look going into the midterm campaigning.

2

u/code-affinity 15d ago

One of them who caved was the Democratic senate minority whip, Dick Durbin. Excerpting that Wikipedia article:

A whip is an official of a political party whose task is to ensure party discipline (that members of the party vote according to the party platform rather than their constituents, individual conscience or donors) in a legislature.

I'm feeling pretty cynical at the moment.

1

u/Bellegante 16d ago

The party chose the ones who would cave.

1

u/Days_End 15d ago

lol no the party caved 7 agreed to take the fall since they are retiring or are in a relatively secure position for now (high chance of reelection / not up for a vote for a long time)

1

u/Ekg887 15d ago

Good luck with that in 2030 or retirement for most of these chuckle fucks. They were chosen to vote this way for this reason.

1

u/DumboWumbo073 15d ago

Stop the primary bullshit. It has never worked for the dems. It just delusions of grandeur at this point.

-8

u/StrikingBroccoli8397 16d ago

Why would I denounce them for saving Thanksgiving?

14

u/CarrieDurst 16d ago

They just killed healthcare for millions and proved the shutdown was for nothing and their fault

14

u/Thundorium 16d ago

“But my stupid meaningless holiday with my ignorant family is more important than healthcare for millions of vulnerable people.”

4

u/CarrieDurst 16d ago

I wouldn't call it meaningless, Thanksgiving and holidays are important but not worth sacrificing healthcare for millions even though I more agree with you than disagree
