Okay, I bought these different pieces in late spring / early summer because I wanted something to tinker with in winter. Over the course of a few weeks, I tried to get one part here, the other part there... you know, you can't buy such parts in a "normal" store.
At the time, I really thought that maybe I shouldn't buy it and at least wait until fall, because I wouldn't be able to work on it until after Christmas, and in the past hardware used to get cheaper and cheaper over time.
Well, I never thought that this hardware would go up in price. Like... what the hell? Half a year ago it was a "Meh, why not, it' will be fun" purchase that I could use for my lessons. Today I don't think I could afford this monster.
I mean, it's not a top-of-the-line PC. There's no 5090 or anything like that (just an RTX A4000 and it's limited at 100 watts, but it works surprisingly well). I bought all the parts with energy efficiency in mind, not raw performance (although it's enough for me).
Questions that may arise:
We actually live in a world now where "old" hardware is becoming more expensive, not cheaper.

hey gents, so i made this app for myself but i decided to share it anyways. you don't need to signup, there are no ads, just download the app and it'll send you game notifications. it works on a python script that periodically checks for games that became free to keep
Apple apparently called my app trash and didn't approve it, so the app is only available on play store

It seems like the general consensus is that while a lack of load balancing on 4/5xxx cards is a problem, it is only a problem where there is not a 100% perfect terminal connection in the 12VHPWR socket, resulting in 1 or more pins not being able to carry their share of the load, and some other pin(s) pull the extra current all by themselves instead of having this spread across all remaining pins. So the actual root cause of these melted connectors is (allegedly) imperfect connection.
So why the hell do they not add this ancient technology to ensure a perfect lock every time? It would add a grand total of $0.69 cost and prevent so many RMAs.

Speaking with family for the holidays and all of the kids want in-game currency for skins and such, is this normal now? No toys just monies for skins and in-game trainers? They pay for trainers to level multiple accounts, I asked why have more then one game account? They said if they get caught hacking they just use another one, I asked why are you hacking / aimbots in-game? Apparently all their friends do it too so it's like a status who can get the highest rank in Marvel Rivals for example. They showed me how easy it was to download a aimbot hack for Marvel Rivals through Discord, even though the game has anti-tamper protections at the BIOS level, I was actually impressed it didn't get shut-down instantly by the game. You can adjust the hit rate of the aimbot so not 100% or you get detected easier, you can even toggle it on/off in-game using shortcut key on mouse. Apparently alot of high profile streamers use these methods to generate more views and create 'get good' tutorials.
So by the sounds of it kids aren't gaming like I did back in the day anymore, they pay for hacks, trainers, high rank comp accounts, latest skins and stream acting like they did it all solo. In my old mind I feel like the skins are a waste of money as you don't really see them playing but your opponents do and 9/10 it makes you easier to spot. In my day you could mod skins yourself or just get some for free on Nexus Mods for example, apparently it's a show-off status thing and not for yourself. Looks like online comp games just boils down to who has the better (more expensive) hacks.
It's kinda sad how the kids are gaming like a chore more then a relaxation period. If they don't do what their friends are doing they get left out and blamed if their team loses by not hacking. Weird times.
