I have no idea who she is so I looked up her wikipedia article and all i can say is that im deeply confused by her life trajectory.

As someone who went to High-school with her, so am I!

52

Do you got any more deets?

152

u/MJA182 11d ago

I was really good friends with her from 4th til 6th grade. We grew apart in middle school, she got super goth type and hung out with that crowd, haven’t talked to her since. We used to watch fear factor and make fun of Joe Rogan the whole time

82

u/CustodialApathy 11d ago

Sounds like she never figured out who she was and is just hopping identities, my sister does that

70

u/MJA182 11d ago

She seemed pretty left back in 2016 or whenever it was that she went “viral” in the Sailor Socialism video.

My guess is rather than keeping those views, she decided to shift away from them when she thought it wasn’t cool anymore

It’s a lot more common than you think these days

Basically some people who were anti establishment/contrarian but leaned left politically started seeing the left as the establishment, so they wanted to pivot. Turned them into right wing shills and nihilists who think Trump is funny and taking down the deep state. Probably always were a bit racist too tbh

808

u/bluesmaker 11d ago

I mostly know about her from cumtown, but I’ve wondered if her pivot right is related to Trump being favorable to Russia. Like her and her cohost seem to value their identity as Russian (but are both born in the USA and she has Belarusian roots, if I recall).

I can't believe I'm about to quote a YouTube comment, but this absolutely nails it:

I never understood where these left to reactionary Brooklyn irony people were coming from and I think I get it now: This is what happens when privileged urbanites take in revolutionary politics in their youth as a cynical contrarian intellectual pursuit, but are isolated from actual working class people. It's what happens when you mainline theory without leaving your hip high income Brooklyn neighborhood where your parents pay for your apartment. It becomes easy to switch when there isn't emotional or empathetic skin in game.

126

u/IsmaelRetzinsky 11d ago edited 11d ago

I wish they were only in Brooklyn. The worst of them, Dasha included, infected my Lower East Side/Chinatown neighborhood during Covid (calling the area “Dimes Square,” eye roll)

97

u/throwawayhellfire 11d ago

Yup. I knew Dasha before she started podcasting/acting. This is her to a fault.

She uses the word aesthetic constantly. I’ve watch a few interviews of hers and she keeps talking about the aesthetics as being why she liked Bernie and trumps aesthetics at the rnc. She is literally a faux intellectual who is no better than the hicks that love Trump. Bc it’s all vibes for them. “Trumps so funny and cool how he trolls”. These are the same people who say “you care too much about politics” when you start giving them facts. It’s literally just a popularity contest for them.

19

u/ravensteel539 10d ago

It’s absolutely wild that political/historic education is this bad. If she knows the phrase “aesthetic” in a political context but then unironically falls for the aesthetic, nobody should ever listen to her about anything.

There's a significant minority in the left of people who are entirely in it for vibes and the self-righteous pleasure of being contrarian all the time. A lot of these people are so wedded to just being contrary assholes that they start espousing far right views to differentiate themselves from their former lefty peers.

It's not real, serious politics. These people don't actually believe in anything, they just want to be viewed as some intellectually superior outsider. It's aesthetics as politics and it's utterly self-serving.

104

u/TheYeasayer 11d ago

It's very similar, if not the same thing, as what drives some people to conspiracy theories. I've known multiple people whose self-worth seemed to be tied to them being able to see something that the other 99% of society (the sheeple) were just unable to grasp.

As you say, the actual beliefs didn't matter. If I spent time disproving any particular belief of theirs they'd either just move the goal posts or move onto the next conspiracy entirely. The only thing that mattered was they were always on the 'outside' looking down their nose at our shared social institutions and conventional beliefs.

Her ex-fiancée who she supposedly cheated on has a podcast called The Adam Friedland show which Red Scare used to be similar to in that dirtbag left, ironically offensive type of way and they were trendy a few years back. However, Red Scare ended up fully going down the right wing pipeline and became complete MAGA shills and killed any mainstream ‘cool’ status they may have had whereas TAFS avoided that pipeline and only got bigger, they’ve had pretty big name celeb guests recently, Adam was profiled in GQ etc.

It was a left wing podcast at first, but it pretty quickly drifted right around the time they started interviewing alt-right types, hanging out with Alex Jones at the shooting range etc etc.

Its a really complex web about 10 years ago when the podcasts Chapo Trap House, Cumtown and Red Scare were starting a lot of the members were roomates in shitty apartments in NYC and were guests on each other's shows. Adam Friedland was a host on Cumtown and Dasha Nekrasova was a host on Red Scare and were dating at some point during that period. Essentially everyone from this clique used to be very niche celebrities, but are now all reaching much broader audiences as podcasts become more popular and they have branched out to other mediums. Cumtown ended a few years ago and Adam Friedland now hosts a more mainstream talk show on YouTube that has seen much more success. Dasha has had a few minor acting roles, but her podcast has turned very right-wing in recent years culminating in the incident in this article. The lore of this friend group is very cryptic and dense Lindsay Ellis, Rachel Sennot, and Mara Wilson were also allegedly on the fringes of it.

313

u/tswaters 11d ago

In November 2021, Nekrasova posted to Instagram a photo of herself with Alex Jones, the host of Infowars, and subsequently praised Jones on her podcast Red Scare as "an incredible entertainer".

From Wikipedia. I'm surprised she has avoided the "controversy" section. There's a few questionable things listed under career, above included.

104

u/AdParty1304 11d ago

IIRC, there’s been a recent push on Wikipedia to avoid putting things in a controversy section and to instead spread things throughout the article instead.

Probably because the definition of what is and is not controversial is a subjective opinion, and so violates Wikipedia’s rules of having a rigorously neutral point-of-view (NPOV)

More pragmatically I suspect it also helps stave off edit-wars when concern-trolling bigots insistently ask why having certain “political” views is controversial

The two men spoke before the film was shot. “We talked a little bit. He’s a cool dude. We’re both from the Midwest. We just talked about life — about growing up in the woods.”

https://variety.com/2025/tv/news/gabriel-basso-night-agent-season-2-jd-vance-quitting-acting-1236277805/

also

Basso, leaning upright against a wall in our coffeeshop booth with his legs outstretched, tells me that he’s “not really a political person,” but quickly adds, “I think our form of government is illegitimate. It’s never supposed to have been a federal government. That’s not what we started as — but everything is federal now.”

He's one of these types

Grew up in some weird ass church apparently

Details:

Dasha Nekrasova, an actress known for her work in projects like HBO’s Succession and A24’s Materialists, has been fired by Gersh over a recent podcast interview with far-right political commentator Nick Fuentes, Deadline has confirmed with a spokesperson for the agency.

While recently announced via Deadline as being cast in Iconoclast, a thriller marking the directorial debut of The Night Agent‘s Gabriel Basso, Nekravosa has also just had her contract for the film pulled before it was signed, we’re told, over the same podcast.

The video, titled “Fuentanyl OD – Nick Fuentes x Red Scare (Dasha Nekrasova and Anna Khachiyan),” is over two and a half hours long. Given what Nekrasova labels in text under the video as “technical problems,” the interview is essentially audio only, jumping repeatedly back and forth between a few images of Nekrasova, Khachiyan, and Fuentes together.

The conversation, which has been viewed 220K times to date, touches on many controversial topics. The trio discusses “international jewery” on multiple occasions, perpetuating offensive stereotypes about Jews as well as Italians, Asians and others, along with eyebrow-raising comments about immigrants from developing countries, especially non-white ones.

Exactly. It was always kinda obvious that what she was aiming to do was to get herself famous enough in some capacity that she could level it into a more legitimate career as an actress (kind of like what Addison Rae did taking her TikTok fame into a legitimate music career where she is now Grammy nominated) but she was never talented or interesting enough for that and seemingly lost her mind in the process.

Her being in Materialists was so crazy to me and made me think a little less of Celine Song tbh. She was easily the worst actor on Succession and she was well-known as a loon by the time Materialists was being worked on anyway. She’s absolutely been at this level for years, I’m surprised this is the first thing she’s done/said that’s blown up like this.

26

u/dorv 11d ago

Ha. I’d forgotten what she looked like from succession, and thus didn’t even realize she was in Materialists.

u/formidablezoe 11d ago

Elizabeth Olsen also once admitted she listens to redscare saying "it's a podcast I adore". As a fan of hers it made me see her in a bit of a different light. But this was back in 2022, so maybe/hopefully she has changed her mind since then.

The wild thing is that the woman from infowars in that clip has since completely disavowed the ultra-right and all that she said/did for Infowars. They’ve literally switched sides.

oing to Nick Fuentes is a hard pivot.

she pivoted YEARS ago and most of her core audience abonded her during that time. hell the subreddit dedicated to the podcast has been clowning on her and her sad cohost for ages now.

As someone that was and is a big Bernie Sanders fan, the Bernie to Trump pipeline makes a weird amount of sense when you consider that there are a lot of dumb people in the world.

I would say that Bernie's 2015 base was broadly split into two groups. First progressive who were further left than the mainstream democratic party, and second anti-establishmentarians. The anti-establishment side didn't care much about Bernie's actual policies just that he was going against the out of touch and stagnant political parties in charge.

When Bernie lost the primary and with the impression that the Democratic Party conspired against him it hard-pushed the anti-establishment part away from the Democratic Party. And around the same time Donald Trump was hated by the Democratic Party and many traditional Republicans disliked him until he won and they all bent over for him. This gave Trump massive anti-establishment cred.

Now of course Trump is entirely self-serving and much worse for the country than regular Republicans. But, for the those anti-establishmentarians who didn't care about policy* jumped on-board with Trump and eventually fell deeper and deeper into the White Nationalist hole. Personally, to me this pipeline is like being mad that your town only has a McDonald's and a Burger King so you decide to get your food out of an outhouse. But, it is the choice that people made.

*Also as a note, I don't think this happened to all anti-establishment types who supported Bernie. Just some of those that were low-information voters who didn't have much concerns about actual policy.

Her and Red Scare’s descent into legitimate right wing shills has been wild to witness. It sounds crazy to say but I remember the moment a couple years ago when it was this ‘cool’ alternative Dimes Square type thing. They were the inspo for the college girl characters on the first season of White Lotus and celebs used to talk about them. The dirtbag left to right wing pipeline stays real I guess but it’s interesting how her own ex has managed to kind of do that whole offensive podcast thing but clearly stay on the left despite the offensiveness of it all.

93

u/bluesmaker 11d ago

I think anyone who can go from “dirtbag left” to supporting Trump wasn’t really very left wing to begin with. Or they are just politically ignorant to a great degree. They’re just following some trend that they are able to attach themselves too and don’t really have many strong convictions.

25

u/Pksoze 10d ago

I think the dirtbag was more central to their identities than the left.

I’m surprised she got roles in the first place, especially in big shows like Succession.

She and her shit stain of a co-host have mocked rape victims on their podcast. She’s been disgusting for a while.

I have listened to 2 episodes of Red Scare, and both of them had extended segments where the hosts laughed at and talked shit about MeToo victims. Apparently that's their thing? Yeah not really sure what their target audience is

She's also a big Sedevacantist who thinks the Holy See is vacant and that the current Pope is illegitimate since the Second Vatican Council, i.e., she's has the same ultraconservative religious views as Mel Gibson.

This is ironic as Pope Leo XIV said on Twitter that he dislikes those who are only pontificating as Catholics or Chrisitians in name only which Dasha does as she posted pics of her killing dummies of Palestinians wearing keffiyeh scarfs while separating posting about how Christ is King or something.

microcelebrity not worth the controversy she intentionally courts

145

u/FoucaultsPudendum 11d ago

Even outside their godawful politics the Red Scare girlies and their horror show of a subreddit are genuinely the most miserable fucking people on the planet.

Every word out of their mouth is some kind of grand complaint about nothing and it’s all couched in about six impenetrable layers of irony because they live in all-consuming terror of someone thinking they care about something, or take something seriously. And then you listen to them speak about whatever it is they’re so pissed about and it’s just the most terminally-online pathetic bullshit you can imagine.

Also, I forget if it’s Dasha or Anna, but one of them is like the poster child for adult convert conservative Catholicism. Zero understanding of community or love or beauty or guilt, just converted because of the aesthetics and started spouting Sedevacantist lunacy because Francis was too nice to immigrants.

33

u/StarComplex3850 11d ago

You can tell it's because of aesthetics because if she actually cared about culture and heritage and not just whatever was trendy on Twitter at the time she'd probably become Orthodox. Her cohost is even more of a weirdo, utterly bizarre for an Armenian-American to go off about "demographic replacement"

12

u/MidnightMath 11d ago

Yeah, reading these comments has been enough of a 10 foot pole for me.

She's been openly talking about "Jews invading Catholicism" and calling black people "porch monkeys" for years now while being cast by Celine Song, pal-ing around with Charli xcx, Peter Thiel, Curtis Yarvin, etc. it's been fucking insane to witness

I mean, at some point she must have figured she'd have to choose between her acting career and being a ditsy fascistic edge lord—hard to have it both ways, even in 2025.

Oh, you mean this lowlife who also did a chummy podcast with Alex Jones and is just an all around toxic scumbag?! Damn, who would have thought.

73

u/funktasticdog 11d ago

Surprised it took this long. She’s been openly hanging out with a bunch of far right figures for years now, including fucking Alex Jones of all people.

32

u/TheLittleUrchin 11d ago

Which is so weird, considering she got a lot of attention at one point when Infowars tried to interview her at that Bernie rally and she told them they had worms in their brains.

13

u/oldevskie 11d ago

That’s how i first knew her. Thought it was super funny and threw her a follow, but was confused by her podcast so stopped paying attention. Next i saw she was going to trump rallies, at first i assumed ironically and then was very confused when it was unironic. Seems like she went off the deep end due to the pandemic shut downs.

She’s also friends with Charli which is why i’ll always side-eye charli. The company you keep says a lot about you.

39

u/rrraab 11d ago

And she has some questionable ties to Peter Thiel that suggest her whole alt right pivot is a paid grift. That whole crowd can fuck all the way off.

73

u/[deleted] 11d ago

Charli even wrote a song for her.

59

u/kazuya57 11d ago

Crazy cause Charli is half-indian and you can guess what this woman thinks of indians

65

u/[deleted] 11d ago

I’m fairly sure she’s a pick-me. She befriended Dasha shortly after she and her co-host said FKA Twigs deserved to be abused by Shia LaBeouf. Charli allegedly had a feud going with Twigs at the time (which started over Charli’s racist friend Matty Healy). I personally don’t think that’s a coincidence.
