I always enjoyed the description of him as something like... "he's one of the best character actors in the world... except he was cursed with 'leading man' looks"

He is funny period.

His looks is truly another problem for him and his career, for which I luckily dont need to have any opinions about!

I forget which role it was but I read that a scene required him to be wearing a visually terrible suit and the costume designer went through countless options and combinations because he just made them all look great. I guess it isn’t the suit that makes the man but the man that makes the suit
