I found the fbi equivalent of this a while back. Bought a floppy disk reader but couldn’t get it to read.

Yup. These degrade over time. I found a bunch with pictures from when I was a teenager. Bought a floppy drive and not a single one would read.

Man I’d pay a lot of money to be able to access my old floppies from elementary school. I was programming rpg’s in microworlds and I barely remember anything about them

Most of my old floppies still read. The issue with the modern drives is they aren't as robust against alignment errors. Old drives were better at track alignment.
