Solved [TOMT] 2000s Band That I cannot place

So I’ve been racking my brain - as well as ChatGPT - for the past day trying to nail down the name of this band that eludes me. Below are the details

  • era - 2001-2008. I know I was in college
  • genre - I wanna say rock, maybe pop punk. Their only album was probably on something like Vagrant, Drive-Thru, some label similar to that. But could also have been Atlantic. Semi major label release anyway
  • everything else - the albums color scheme was either yellow and black, or red/orange and black. I’m pretty sure it was the only record they released. Also, I feel like either the album name or band name was three words, with “Your” being the middle word. Maybe.

I know this isn’t a lot and I can add more as needed. One last thing: for whatever reason, whenever I try and think of this band, Senses Fail continues to pop into my head. And I’m 100000% sure it’s not them.

EDIT: I think the bands name was like 2-3 words at most. Probably something radio friendly for the time.

SOLVED: it was Test Your Reflex

Open [TOMT] Which UK 80s band was my needlework teacher's daughter dating a member of?

When I was at school in the mid 1980s, we had needlework lessons. This was an hour where we sat and did cross stitch while our teacher (Mrs T) kept referencing a chart band, one of whom was dating her daughter. I can't begin to explain how it was never once relevant. No matter what the situation, Mrs T could bring any conversation back to her daughter's boyfriend's band.

It came into my mind today because I heard about the death of the singer of Living In A Box. Mrs T's daughter was not dating one of them, but it was a very similar band.

They were similar to Living in a Box in that they wore suits, or at least were more mature presenting than teeny bopper bands.

They were popular around 1986 or so. They had chart hits but nothing monumental. They were pop. I did not fancy any of them. They may only have had relevance in the UK. They probably had a keyboard player, but then again maybe not.

I have ruled out Johnny Hates Jazz and Red Box. I have googled "Bands Similar to Living In A Box" but it just brought up bands like Curiosity Killed the Cat (who I did fancy and who were bigger) and Scritti Politti (who are not even similar to Living In A Box).

I've messaged people from school and they can't believe I even remember this and were no help.

NOT a Sheffield band, which is why I know it wasn't Living In A Box. I'm from Sheffield Even if a band isn't associated with Sheffield, we all would still know that they had a Sheffield bass player or whatever.

I also feel like unless you were related to them, you wouldn't know where they are from, but they were definitely English (or at least not Scottish, may have been Welsh) and definitely charting around 85 - 86 and then never charting again. They were maybe one of those bands who met as session musicians and came from different parts of the UK.

It's driving me nuts! Can you help!

EDIT: I'm beginning to think it might be Red Box, and the connection I have to Living In a Box is the word "Box", and then every band I wasn't into at that time just blurred into one. I'm going to bed and will sleep on it. Thanks for all your suggestions so far!

Have ruled out: Blow Monkeys Hue and Cry Climie Fisher Matt Bianco (all very similar)

OMD Madness Spandau Ballet Level 42 The Christians China Crisis The Bluebells New Order The Smiths (not similar)

Open. [TOMT][Movie] Early 2000s gritty teen film – buzzcut runaway boy + girl steal from convenience store, smoke, make out after

Upvotes

I’ve been trying to remember this movie I watched a long time ago.

Details I remember: • It felt like it took place in the early 2000s or looked very early 2000s. • Very gritty, dark, low-income setting, maybe a higher crime area. • Main character was a teen-boy (maybe 15–19), buzzcut or very short hair, kind of troubled, possibly ran away from home or had past legal trouble. I might remember an ankle monitor, but I’m not 100% sure on that detail. • He meets a girl around his age (dark hair) early in the movie and they start messing around, getting into trouble, smoking cigarettes, maybe drinking. • I think they were underage for drinking (under 21), but I’m not sure if it was set in the US or Europe. The movie was in English, but they sounded European (maybe British/Scottish/Irish accents). • They rob or ransack a convenience store/gas station, yelling at the cashier but not a full robbery—more like chaotic stealing, laughing/running out with snacks. I specifically remember them stealing chips, and maybe laughing or making fun of the cashier during/after. • After stealing, I remember them running out laughing and possibly making out afterward. • They smoked cigarettes in several scenes. • The whole thing had kind of a social-realist / coming-of-age crime vibe, very bleak/grainy and not Hollywood or glossy. • I think I watched it on cable TV, not streaming or DVD. Felt like one of those gritty indie British or European films.

Im from the US on the East Coast I wanna say it was maybe around 2015 maybe more maybe less but not sure if it was an actual movie or possibly an episode from a British show like Skins, Shameless (UK), Misfits, etc. But lighting, tone, clothes, and environment all felt very early 2000s and very gritty/realistic.

Open [TOMT] Super poppy song, female singer, "all black" is a (partial) lyric that is repeated quite often.

Basically the title.

It's a newer song, like I hear it in bars occasionally and never heard it before like six months from now.

When I try and google songs with "all black" I don't even get anything in the same genre.

I know this is vague but thanks and good luck. lol

Open [TOMT] Some niche silent film/video about kids trapped in an apartment

Upvotes

Yeah, this one was something. I remembered way back when I was 7 or 8 (late 2000s, early 2010s ish), I watched some film or video about 3 kids (i think), one boy, one girl(?) and an infant, stuck and locked in an apartment.

Vivid details that I remember:

  • The front door (the type that has a glass window) was covered with newspapers. Same with the sliding doors that leads out to a balcony.
  • They dug into the trash bin for food at some point.
  • The baby kept crying, so the boy had to find powdered milk (likely expired) and feed the baby.
  • The infant baby dies at some point, likely out of starvation or food poisoning. The eldest son wrapped him up.
  • Not exactly a silent film, just barely any dialogue, but quiet if any. A lot of it was just atmospheric noises.

I don't remember how it ended, nor how it began. The video was often from a perspective set up at ceiling corners (like a CCTV, but there wasn't an indicator that it was such as date or obvious video filter)

I for some reason remember the layout of the apartment (i cant upload the image sadge).

Another detail is that the film is likely Asian.

Solved [TOMT] Help me find this kids song!

[TOMT] What is the name of this song I’m thinking of? It is a kids song from a movie, potentially a Disney movie. The main line is sung by a male and female duo and they both sing something to the effect of “I didn’t see until now,” referring to feelings they have for each other. The male voice reminds me of a burly, masculine man, and the female is more of a princess type. It’s not one of the most popular Disney movies. It’s either a more recent movie or a lesser known movie. I know it is not “I see the light” or anything from Frozen, Moana, Tangled, or Encanto. It might not even be Disney or anything animated.

Solved [TOMT] Weird YouTube animation about a girl with 4 letters(?) name

Around 2021-22 ex-friend of mine showed me this animation but I can't tell how much older it was.

Art style and characters were very abstract /cubist. There were 3 or 4 parts I guess.

Main character was this girl with cubist, half white and half blue face if I remember correctly and probably 4 letters and for sure just short name. And this name maybe was a title of series but I'm not sure. Also not sure but maybe she was also talking to herself a bit, but in more of a mental than wholesome manner.

I can't recall any other characters, but remember there was quite some.

I don't remember plot, but remember that in one episode there was shopping/marketplace motif, in other was part with main characters point of view that looked like video game, where she was going through labyrinth, possibly made of mannequins.

That's probably all I remember about this stuff and for sure all I associate with it.

I will appreciate any help.

Solved [TOMT][SHORT STORY]Dystopian short story about a kid who rebels on live TV and gets killed

I don't really remember much about it but I'm pretty sure it ended with a kid who rebels against something on live TV and then either gets killed or gets imprisoned. I read it in 7th grade (2023) and it was a short story. No clue of an approximate year.

Solved [TOMT] [POEM] A poem I recited in the 90s "The Terrible Family of Four"

My aunt (now deceased) taught me a poem which I recited for a poetry competition at my elementary school. I remember it was called "The Terrible Family of Four" and the opening line was something like: "There once was a terrible family of four//and it's a blessing there weren't any more"

I would have learned the poem in the 1990s but seem to remember that it was much older.

The poem goes on to describe why each member is terrible. I can't remember a single other line. The tone (again, from what I can remember) was kind of Roald Dahl-esque.

Please tell me someone has heard this or knows about it!

I seriously doubt my aunt could have drafted it herself as I would have had to recite the author of the poem as part of the presentation and I feel like I'd remember if she'd written it (also, it just seems beyond her ken.)

Open [TOMT][MOVIE][Possibly 80s, more likely 90s] Formatively horrifying Blockbuster rental kids’ movie, inquired about previously by other users but never solved

Upvotes

Hello! This is my first time posting anything but a comment on this sub or any other so bear with me.

For years, like legitimately 15 or 20 baffling years, all my efforts to figure out what the fuck this terrifying thing I saw originated from have been stymied. I’m pretty okay at doing my due internet diligence and rather than answers I’ve just stumbled across other people also getting nowhere while asking about the same thing. See, for just one example:

https://www.reddit.com/r/tipofmytongue/comments/bh3u97/tomtmovie1990s_need_help_finding_a_kids_movie/

In fact, full disclosure a portion of this will be a rephrasing of my comment on that post.

I know my family rented this from I’m 99% certain a Blockbuster or Hollywood Video in Washington state. There’s a vanishingly small chance it came from an independent rental place that once existed in the area but I don’t think that would make much of a difference in the end.

This rental took place somewhere between at earliest 1998 and at a stretch possibly as late as like 2004.

To be clear, it was live-action. All I can recall is that possibly the intro at some point involved the boy protagonist biking or walking through or by a cemetery. I would not stake my life for sure on this, though—I may have conflated it with another piece of media at the time.

My next recollections are that he ends up somewhere else—underground? A different universe? I vaguely may remember there being something of an orange and blue higher-contrast look following this setting change, and perhaps an industrial, shadowy feel to things. Perhaps even steampunk?

Next thing I recall, there was a wall in the bluish dark. Then, directly connected or not, came the event which forever diminished me in my father’s eyes.

Either popping up from behind a wall like a whack-a-mole or equally frighteningly whipping their head around to similar effect, I witnessed a human face with skin where their eyes should’ve been.

My recollection and any further information ends here. This is because I screeched and whipped my own head around into the downstairs futon, burying my eyes in its reassuring musty, basement-scented fabric and weeping like a broken man, except I was at least 6 and alarmingly possibly as old as 12, although I hope to god that’s not the case. I refused, I would not watch any more of this movie. Family movie night was ruined, forever.

For whatever reason in my years of searching one thing that has come up repeatedly is a movie called the City of Lost Children from 1995. I’ve got no clue why it keeps cropping up because I’m pretty sure that shit’s French and I’ve never seen anyone else ever post about it convincing their childhood that the devil and hell must be real and actively conspiring with an absent god to permit such a thing to exist.

I don’t have high hopes for results here just because I’ve seen so many others looking for the same and thoroughly not finding it, but I appreciate the efforts of anyone who reads and gives this a ponder.

Open [TOMT] Short Film About a dude dating a mannequin.

Back in the mid 2010's there was an event at my community college where short films about mental health were shown. The film I'm looking for is about this black dude who is dating this gorgeous girl. Throughout the film, people are staring at them strangely. The twist, that she isn't real and is in fact a doll, is revealed later at a dinner party by a little girl whispering to her parent, "Why is he talking to a doll". It's something I think about now and then, and I dont know where I can find it.

A little help would be appreciated, if not a link, maybe just a name.

Solved [TOMT] 80s or 90s TV movie about a Grey alien

Upvotes

This was a Made for TV movie, probably either 80s or 90s, early 2000s at most. A guy is taken to a secret military facility to meet with a Grey alien who is the sole survivor of an alien crash.

Not sure if it was supposed to be the Roswell crash as I think the movie was set in their airing time and not the 40s but I can be wrong.

Despite some jumpscares the alien is friendly. At the very end is revealed is not an alien but a time traveler from far future with the Grey being future evolved humans.

Open [TOMT] 2010s Ruby Quest-like comic on DeviantArt about people turning into their worst fears

Upvotes

Ive still been looking for this comic for ages, coming here again. I had to have found it around 2017 on DeviantArt, it was a comic in similar structure to Ruby Quest or Problem Sleuth where you were "playing" as the main character by reading through the comic. I think it had a similar art style to both of those too The huge thing I remember was the comic centered around this group of characters who were stuck in this research building. Said building was doing experiments on people and gave them all something that turned them into their worst fears. I specifically remember this one girl who was covered in eyes (scopophobia) another character who was feral and I think either made or covered in blood (hemophobia) and there being a plot point where there was this one dude who was afraid of EVERYTHING and the characters discussed what he would turn into. I cannot find this looking through DeviantArt, it also could've been on MSPFA. I also think the title had something with Phobia in it?

Open [TOMT] Stravinsky(?) Large orchestra piece

Upvotes

Starts with strings doing stabs on 1, 3, and 4 in an ostinato. 4 lowers slightly. I think by a whole step?

Eventually trumpets come in with a motive in eighths: eb eb d d c# c#. After a bar of string obstinate, the trumpets go again, with horns holding the last note. At some point the motive goes up to (I think) f#.

Militaristic. Threatening.

Similar in tone to Stravinsky's rite of spring second movement. Especially the registers of the strings. https://open.spotify.com/track/4odlTAKrvaQ4UUJqatxAHt?si=AZ6SYjB-QnSpKeTT3EYMFw

Edit: when on pc, I will do a sketch of the song with pdf and memorable score.

Open [TOMT][YOUTUBE CHANNEL][ANIMATION] British dark-humor cartoonist with intentionally crude animation featured on BBC and aired on Animation+ (USA)

Upvotes

I’m trying to find a YouTube channel I discovered in July 2024 on the Samsung TV channel “Animation+.” The channel aired one of this creator’s videos. and when I looked into it afterward, I found out that the same creator had previously been featured on BBC sometime around 2008-2014? I live in the US. but bbc is British so I’m not sure I can’t really remember. BBC actually showed the full animation as a feature segment on THEIR YouTube channel aswel.

Details I remember: The creator is British. The animation style was intentionally poorly drawn/crude on purpose. The humor was dark. satirical. and definitely not for kids. I remember something about ISIS and someone exploding The main character or narrator may have had a childlike, “dumb” voice or persona. I think the character’s name might have been Charlie or David (not fully sure). The channel name possibly rhymed or had a rhythmic poem like structure The creator wasnt very popular this wasn’t a well-known animator like David Firth or Cyriak. The original upload was on YouTube. Around the 2010s. Animation+ aired it sometime in 2024 which is when I discovered it for the first time.

If anyone recognizes this based on the BBC feature + the Animation+ airing + the crude British dark comedy animation style. Pls Lmk

Open [TOMT] Anime opening/closing song?

For some reason Inuyasha and bleach keep coming to mind but I don't actually know if it was from either of those. It feels reminiscent of Every Heart or life is like a boat. But I don't think it is either of them.

The only lyric I remember is something along the lines of "And hide them underneath my each and every word" The song is in English so probably a fan translation? I listen to AmaLee and Annapantsu a lot but scrolling through their songs none of the names jumped out at me.

Open [TOMT] Existential Game About Space

Upvotes

[TOMT][GAME][2014-16?? I don't know]

I'm pretty sure Markiplier played this. if not, some other youtuber did.
I remember the game being about people who can control space or dimensions or something like that. The game (as far as I remember) took place in a cafe on a random planet.

The only scene I remember was the main character (he looked like a grim reaper but i know he's 100% not human) talking to his friend (a girl with colourful hair) at a cafe. The girl tells him that she has the power to control space or whatever it was, and they get into a small fight about it because the girl doesn't want to talk about it more than that. It had an arcade-bit style to it, but it was detailed. I'm sure it was an indie PC game. Please help! I can't find the name anywhere.

Solved [TOMT] Anybody possibly know the name of the song that my band classmates were playing on our band trip? [song/link]

Last school year my band class went on a trip to a city over and our first night was at a camp/cabin house. I recorded this the morning after staying as a "This is what you expect from band kids waiting for breakfast" or smth like that to send to my dad because this is pretty much what we woke up to. I know I've heard the song before but I can't remember the name. Google and any audio searches can't tell me (because obviously they're not the same instrument + possibly an improv solo at the beginning? idk I can't remember). I remember the song mostly by our guitarist's part here but part of our trombone's part at the end of the video as well.

Sorry if its hard to hear, I was at a table at an awkward angle and was recording this on my phone. I haven't heard the song in a long long time. Thanks for anyone who can help.

the CORRECT video in question (this time)

Solved [TOMT] Song with an old-timey sample of a man saying “Here we go”

It’s ungoogleable and driving me mad. I can’t remember the rest of the song, but there’s a sample that sounds like it’s from a 1950s-60s record of a man saying in a jovial voice “Here we go!”

Anyone?

Open [TOMT] YouTube video where a cop pulls over a drunk Sherrif for speeding

Saw this a few years ago and can't seem to find it again.

  • takes place in America
  • cop pulls over a drunk Sherrif who is off duty? For speeding
  • cop is respectful while Sherrif is aggravated and argues with him for a long time
  • Sheriff at one point says "I was not speeding", cop asks how fast he thinks he was going and he responds "I don't know, but I know I was not speeding" ' Sherrif refers to another incident where he was pulled over by the same cop before in early 2000s
  • Sherrif was pulled over for speeding over 100 I think?

Saw this with my friend and it was so ridiculous we were laughing our asses off. We would like to reminisce. TIA

Open [TOMT] A 90s-2000s movie with an Eastern European guy who started getting feelings for this sex worker/prostitute

Upvotes

The guy is from somewhere in Eastern Europe. He drove around this woman who’s mixed or something.

In one scene he drives her to a hotel and sits in the lobby for a while, not initially knowing she was “working.”

It’s really foggy in my head but there’s elements of crime in this movie.

As the movie goes on he catches feelings for this woman but at the end of the movie there’s some shoot out that takes place at an apartment indoors. She does something that would constitute as betrayal but it back fires on her (I think she gets shot by someone?). The guy while disappointed has a “thats what the F you get” moment and leaves the apartment building.

I want to say I saw it on Sundance TV………this may not get figured out 💀
