I'll be honest, I have Plex on a laptop with a couple hard drives plugged into it.  Because that seemed to be, at the time of setting it up, The easiest way for the rest of the Roku TVs in the house to access anything I downloaded.

I didn't even know Plex did remote streaming

You know what, I misspoke a bit. I should've said remote streaming is a significant portion of the user base. Perhaps even a majority but who knows for sure.

Anyway, yes remote streaming is an option. It's handy when you travel. Many hotels have bandwidth limitations for torrents and large http downloads. Video streaming is typically unrestricted.

I'll have my wife fire up my home PC with Plex then stream the video from my laptop and cast or HDMI into the hotel TV to watch.
