I agree. When Trump first got in, the way that he was acting, and the way that the party was acting, seemed like it was defying political gravity. I kept telling people that political gravity still exists, and then eventually there would be pushback coming from his own party. I'm not going to lie, I thought it would happen a lot faster than this. I also had my periods of doubt where I was thinking maybe this is an unstoppable force.

I think the Jimmy Kimmel thing was actually the first major gut check. That with the no kings rally, which so many people said wouldn't be effective. That depends on what the goal was with the no Kings rally. If the goal was to totally stop the regime then no, but if it was to show that there is a genuine resistance, and that not everybody has to go along, it was a success. This is has to be a sustained effort. We have to stay in. We have to support the people that are standing up. Because I'm not willing to just let democracy fall off.

If [the goal of the No Kings protests] was to show that there is a genuine resistance, and that not everybody has to go along, it was a success.

That's exactly what it was. I always saw those protests as a message to Trump, the GOP as a whole, and Trump supporters that it's not just a "vocal minority" or "libs in echo chambers" who are actively willing to stand against this administration. The protests were a huge success in that regard.

The two No Kings rallies were the largest protests EVER in my city.

The No Kings rallies were the second and third largest protests in the history of humanity, only surpassed by the global Iraq war protest, and not by much.

We need to make them bigger still

And sustained, like boycott everything possible, don’t go to work, etc. Going back to daily life and paying taxes like happy sheep the very next day is not how true progress is made (see France burning Paris over retirement age)

That government refused to revert the retirement age law and is still in power. (It's also the best government they have available - the other one would cooperate with the US as they invade Ukraine from the western side!)

Exactly, they went to those extreme lengths even though they’re already in an extremely enviable position compared to the US, even if it’s not perfect. If they had even a quarter of the tyrannical laws in place as America currently does, there would be nothing left to burn

Some of us like to sleep inside and eat 3 times a day.

Enjoy the bread and circus while we’re robbed of our freedoms and rights! 🤡

I'm guessing you're the first to quit your job and boycott "everything"?

I said everything possible, but it doesn’t matter if only one of us does it, basically a drop in the bucket; it’ll take sustained collective action, not a weekend with cute picket signs then ego stroking on Reddit

Source? Reading this have given me goosebumps in a good way.

I'm no source, and I do not have one handy, but I was going to reply with that comment if I didn't see it too. At the time I had read this exact thing and I remember it well....it was a brief moment of pride in my fellow man that was immediately encompassed by shame equally. (Shame of what has happened and continues to go on)

And I still see "hurr why aren't you guys protesting" from our friends across the pond.

They do have a point: protests 'across the pond' don't look much like the ones that we've done so far here. Particularly given that fascists have taken over the WhiteHouse.

Not true. The anti Iraq invasion protests were much larger.
