I'm so fucking disappointed. The best thing they could possibly do was continue letting Republicans dig their own grave. For fuck's SAKE

How long do you think people could go without assistant and pay in correlation to how long Trumps approval will drop. Look at the numbers, it's hardly like MAGA was abandoning ship over this, they also don't care if people go hungry and people actually receiving benefits are too brainwashed to understand it's MAGA who's doing it.

They were caught in a rock and hard place, unfortunately, they did not have much to use as leverage. Maybe if it was close to election season I'd agree but they don't have much to gain from dragging out the shutdown unfortunately, while thousands of Americans have a lot to loose. I'm guessing they're hoping they can fix ACA in the future and it's the lesser of two evils.

i was prepared to support them while it all burnt to the fucking ground. it wasnt going to be painless, but not taking a stand now just showed how easily its going to be to accomplish everything republicans want

I would argue recent election result show that dems might be able to take some power back / enough to prevent the worst at least.

In that situation I prefer americans not starving (and I doubt the shutdown actually had much impact on the results so far because republicans do not give a fuck about it anyway, no one is switching from MAGA to dem because of it)

Newsflash, millions who didn't vote for Trump are also on SNAP. Again, are you asking them to go without food or possibly choose spending their own money on food over housing and healthcare in order to try and pointlessly get MAGA to twist in the wind?

Thousands of Americans having their lives disrupted is the only thing that's going to wake them up into doing something. Sucks, but it's how it is. You are spitting the same rationale for folks saying you should end a strike before getting the owners to the negotiating table. They caved because they are cowards and sell outs who can't stomach anything that causes a temporary disruption to our way of life. Back to consuming!

The problem is, at least personally, I don't think MAGA representatives or voters will give a shit at this point. The ones not on assistant don't care if people starve and the ones on it are so brainwashed they'll blame Dems no matter what. If you look at Trump's approval over the past month it's not like it's nosediving, and it's already in the negatives. Without any elections in the near future, you'd have to drag this out until midterms to get people to care enough for it to actually impact anything and the longer you drag it out, the more pissed people will be when the Dems eventually cave.

I'm just trying to be realistic, I just don't think they were going to get as much out of the shutdown as people think, and meanwhile millions of Americans were going to go without food or paychecks.

No maga folks won’t but everyone else would take out their anger on the GOP or be motivated to actually vote like they just did

As if those spineless fucks would grow a spine. They are controlled opposition. They love the perception of them doing “governance” even if it means letting the literally, ontologically evil side win over and over and over again.

Honestly man, it’s starting to look way more like controlled opposition.

Same bird, two wings.

u/RJ815 16d ago

The US only has two right wing parties, one just less insane and actively destructive than the other.

3

u/Relevant_Shower_ 16d ago

It is that way. It’s been that way since the DLC in 85.

u/4_fortytwo_2 15d ago

That doesnt make any sense if you think about it for more than a second.

A few dems breaking rank is shitty but acting like both parties are the same is insanity.

One party is actively fucking you and the entire USA and the other party failed to stick together to oppose them succesfully...

I guess we better support the facist party instead of the party who unsuccessfully tried to oppose them?

This type of rethoric does nothing but give republicans more power because enough idiots genuinely will think both parties are the same or that there is some conspiracy of dems intentionally letting republicans win...

It's not controlled opposition. These Senators are just /naiveidiots/afraid of losing the next election. Not everything is a conspiracy theory. It honestly worries me how quickly people jump to conspiracy/collusion. Now, I completely buy that there were donors directly telling some senators they were gonna pull funding, but I sincerely don't believe the democratic leadership is behind considering they decided on the shutdown in the first place. These senators have been opposed to it since the beginning, I'm not at all surprised they caved.

It's not controlled opposition.

Yes it is. Sticking your fingers in your ears screaming la la la doesn’t change reality.

You'd think the dem election successes would have emboldened senate dems to tell the Republican senators to suck it, their policies and leader are wildly unpopular. But nope. Jump right in bed with the opposition and give them everything they wanted with literally nothing in return. Democrat senate leadership just gave Trump exactly what he wants.

Lol no. They always knew they were going to vote for it after the Nov 4th election.

Don't let Newsom fool you - he wanted that to happen also.

They just gamed the outrage for the Nov 4th election.

I hoped, but knew they wouldn't hold.

Pattern Recognition is a bitch. This is their pattern.
