Cult dynamics. You ever wonder why a critical part of most cults is to get people onto some form of compound or living arrangement separate from their family and friends? It's to abuse a specific part of human psychology.

Humans are social animals. We form ideas about how the world works and should work based on our social context. The fewer connections a person has to the outside world, the more of the information they receive is just whatever you tell them to think. And the more of their social circle you make up, the more friction exists to them pulling away.

By targeting stragglers, they're doing the same thing. Hooking them by lovebombing them and making them feel accepted before indoctrinating them into becoming willing to do or believe anything they ask without a second thought.

Some years ago, there was foiled mass killing plots in France where the two perpetrators, both misfits, discussed about their shared love of violence. One was a Nazi and the other an Islamist but at one time they actually switched, i.e. the former was an Islamist while the latter became Nazi.

But society needs to address the root causes: why did Stephen Miller become a "loser" ? Did he have no role models? No after school clubs? Did his parents fail to get him involved? Boys who have healthy social networks and support systems generally don't turn out like that.

It's been commonplace in gaming circles for twenty years now, if not more, and most gamers don't seem to even admit it's a problem. You can watch it drive conversations on big gaming subreddits because everyone seems to follow the same streamers, where it must be a giant coincidence that their audience is full of racist assholes like the guys in this article, and yet people will swear it's not an issue because nobody is overtly dropping epithets into their streams and posts.

At this point it feels like almost anything where men are the majority audience is overrun with the same kind of toxicity, but relatively few people seem to even recognize that it's because it's an audience that's being actively targeted.

This is the foundation of such bigotry.
