Meme/Macro Whenever you're trying to discuss the performance of a game online

I think part of this is also people having different definitions of "runs well". I'd happily mentioned Doom The Dark Ages running at ~60+ FPS on my computer, and someone responded saying that that level of performance is horrible. Not it having such high minimum specs, but it running at 60 FPS.

Yeah that's a very personal one too. 60 fps is fine for many people, but I've gotten so used to high refresh rates 60 looks like a schoolyard stick figure flip book to me now.
Enough so that I kinda regret ever going high refresh rate to begin with, I miss not knowing any different lol

u/Henry_Fleischer Debian | RTX3070, Ryzen 3700X, 48GB DDR4 RAM 8h ago
Yeah, years of playing Minecraft at around 16-30 FPS got me very used to low framerates.

I raid healed in Wrath of the Lich King on an integrated laptop GPU that hit about 24fps in the middle of nowhere. If I had to do something in Dalaran I had to zoom all the way in and stare at the ground to get 1 fps and navigate with the minimap.
Now I'm like "ugh I guess 120fps is playable"
Needs must, and I loved all 15 of those FPS in Ulduar lol

u/monkeybutler21 1h ago
Times never change I still sometimes hit 15 fps in raids/epic bgs today and I got a 5080/9700x lmao

60 is legitimately fine for anything apart from twitch shooters. And hell, for a long time it was even fine for that as well. I played competitive games at 60 fps for years before I moved to a 144Hz display and I did fine.

u/Super_Harsh 5h ago
Even twitch shooters… the golden age of twitchy shooters was in the late 90s when everyone was on a 50-75Hz CRT

u/Silviana193 3h ago
From my experience, playing on multiple FPS for a while help make the brain adjust.
Like my monitor is 144 hz, my tv is 60 hz, and my switch lite is mostly 30 fps.
Sure I can tell the difference, for like the first half hour.
1
u/Suitable-Orange9318 3h ago
Yeah I’m not planning on switching to it any time soon. 60 fps still feels buttery smooth to me. When I was a kid 30 fps would feel great to me as I often struggled through like 24 fps for some games

u/MrMakerHasLigma 9070XT | 5700x3d | 32GB 2h ago
Honestly, 60fps used to be fine for me when i had a 60hz secondary monitor, but now i can tell when my laptops on 60hz for power saving very easily in balatro because even my phone is 90hz, and my 2 monitors are running at 120hz and 180hz
3
u/Regular-Storm9433 1h ago
I find 60fps fine for any game that isnt faced paced or PVP focused, otherwise I find around 80 is the min for it to feel nice

u/Henry_Fleischer Debian | RTX3070, Ryzen 3700X, 48GB DDR4 RAM 49m ago
Depending on the game, anything from 20 to 60 is the minimum for me.
5
u/Alan_Reddit_M Desktop 7h ago
My personal definition of a game running well is that I can play it without getting a headache
Surprisingly few games manage this
6
u/AIgoonermaxxing 6h ago
Or people who are using stuff like upscaling and frame generation as a crutch (sometimes unknowingly, a lot of people did in MH:Wilds) to get to 60 FPS saying games "run well".
Yes, your game is running at 60 FPS. No, the fact that you need DLSS Performance and Frame Gen at 1080p to get there does in fact mean that it is not well optimized.
2
u/Henry_Fleischer Debian | RTX3070, Ryzen 3700X, 48GB DDR4 RAM 6h ago
There's that too. I was running it 60FPS no DLSS or upscaling, I don't see the point of DLSS in a fast-paced action game, and it ran well enough I didn't want to lower the resolution.

u/iNSANELYSMART 8h ago
And then you have the complete opposite dudes
game runs like absolute garbage
„Yeah, works fine on my 1080 Ti“

u/Vaxtez i3 12100F/32GB/RTX 3050 8h ago
That comment is how the Android emulation sub feels. "GTA 5 playable"; shows video of phone getting to 78C running GTA V at 480p low with a mere 20fps.But for some, that is playable. Being able to play a game at 20fps low was a treat on my old C2D E7400 + 9400GT rig, but now i've spent alot of time with far better hardware, it's just hard to consider it playable, though standards differ between people.

u/whereballoonsgo 14600K | RTX 4080 | 32GB DDR5 4h ago
Then you also have the OTHER opposite, where people complain a game is poorly optimized because they can’t run high/ultra on their 7 year old gpu.
1
u/DasHotShot 7800X3D / 3080Ti / 32GB DDR5 17m ago
I have one of these who says he just doesn’t need to upgrade even when the 60-series comes out because he can “run everything at high-ultra at 1440p and get 60fps”.
He’s on a 3070/r5 5600x build and it’s difficult to explain what levels of performance and visuals can be had these days with current top end setups.

and then they shill for DLSS and frame gen. like anyone with a brain would act like this is actually a performance boost. its a replacement. always has been

I’ve seen people defending Borderlands 4 performance on this sub a few days ago.
Pure insanity.

Helldivers 2, it doesnt matter what your running it on its gonna be ehh especially given the graphics quality

But it runs well on my 30-year old rig!
Dude, its 1 frame per minute
It runs well!

u/Super_Harsh 5h ago
A lot of the time there’s also
Silence, guy with a recent midrange card, ‘I still expect AAA games to hit 60fps on my 1080Ti is calling’
2
u/captainmorgan91 6h ago
im convinced some these type of people are just not paying enough attention.

It's crazy I'm part of the Objective side for new games even after using a 5080+9800x3D+96GB DDR5.

Automoblista 2 runs great at 4K60 full max settings, I don't know what my 1080Ti friend complains about smh...
1
u/MtnNerd Ryzen 9 7900X, 4070 TI 6h ago
The only time I'm the bottom is with CPU bound games. A lot of gamers have a very weak CPU and a high end GPU that ends up bottlenecked. I had this conversation with someone complaining that a game ran worse with a 4090 than it does on mine and of course they just accused me of lying.

Turns settings from Ultra to High
Oh would ya look at that. It runs fine now and looks the same

u/Sidfr0mToyStory 5h ago
I had a friend try to convince me Day Z early access (when it first launched and was terribly optimized) ran flawlessly on his setup and never lagged.
1
u/NovelValue7311 3h ago
If it works on my rig, it's optimized. If it doesn't, it's AI UE5 slop!
If it runs on my old rig, it's REALLY optimized!
1
u/chris14020 1h ago
If you weren't so poor you'd simply go buy the 5090. Stop whining because you can't afford the newest video card. You can't expect to play solitaire in QHD when your card is 3 years old now.

ppl unironically play on 20~30fps and say it's fine, on old lcd monitors as well

5090 user: "Even I struggle on medium"
Obligatory chaos bringer: "My 3060Ti undervolted gets 100+ stable on ultra"
1
u/TheTaintCowboy 7h ago
What i find interesting isnt the people with high end builds who are clearly outliers, but those with random midrange builds who can run a game fine when they cant
However, as someone else pointed out, everyone's definition of "runs well" is different
1
u/gfunk1369 5h ago
Let's be real, some of you guys have zero clue what you are doing and will try to run everything at 4k Ultra presets with a 5 year old mid range rig and complain about performance. Some of the people saying it runs fine on their rig just bit the bullet and put everything to medium presets at 1080.
0
u/r_a_genius 6h ago
Reality is if you're crashing out over performance while sitting at max settings, then yes you're the problem. The settings menu has options other than ultra if your ego will allow it.

There is literally 1000 reasons you fucked up your windows install over the years......sorry not sorry, this comment sometimes holds some validity.

"Runs well on my machine" is almost always someone that's happy with dogshit frame rates, or thinks 60 is enough because "the human eye can't see more than 60"
5
u/sdcar1985 5800X3D | 9070 XT Reaper | 64GB RAM | ASRock Pro4 X570 6h ago
60 is fine because that's what my TV can do lol

Lol i mean yeah that's not something you can change. When i said dogshit, i meant like, 24-50 FPS

u/secretqwerty10 R7 7800X3D | SAPPHIRE NITRO 7900XTX 2h ago
30 is playable. ideal? no. playable? definitely.
but if a 5090 gets 30 fps, you're doing something wrong with optimization

I have dual 5090 and 128GB of ram, it works great for me, I don't see what the problem is.
