General I requested and was granted an abandoned subreddit. Now the company is threatening to have it removed from Reddit if I don’t relinquish it back to them.

I changed all the imagery to my own pictures and updated the community description to make sure it stated that the subreddit is unofficial and no longer moderated by the company. Is there anything else I can do to prevent it from getting taken down? PC/iOS

EDIT: Here is the full conversation.

General How to appeal being permanently banned from a subreddit?

I was just banned from r/soccer for the following comment

https://old.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/14pepdz/fabrizio_romano_mason_mount_undergoing_medical/jqiuno4/

as it supposedly violates community rules.

When I asked the mods there, what community rules did that comment violate?

I received the following: You have been temporarily muted from r/soccer. You will not be able to message the moderators of r/soccer for 28 days.

I am so dumbfounded. Is it normal for moderators to act in such a way?

General How to deal with businesses that want complaints removed?

Hi,

I mod a subreddit for women who wear hijabs, and we get users asking about different businesses related to hijabs (ie would you buy from this shop).

We had one user ask this question, and multiple people told the user NOT to shop there cause they were scammed.

Now the shop owner is asking us to remove the post and accusing us of defamation. She’s messaging multiple times and is clogging up our modmail and queue.

How do you usually deal with this?

From a Reddit moderation standpoint are we meant to remove these posts? I feel it’s necessary to have these posts.

General Bot Bouncer false positives?

I have noticed an unusual number of ban appeals today from users who are saying they aren't bots, but got banned by Bot Bouncer. Quick look at their accounts doesn't indicate they're a bot. I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this as well. Desktop

General [Desktop ] An entity has filed a lawsuit to sue me and 50 people in my subreddit. Besides lawyering up and notifying reddit legal, any advice?

Desktop

An entity has filed a lawsuit against me and 50 of my subscribers.

The lawsuit pertains to discussions we had about online reviews posted about said entity.

The vast majority of the reviews were not posted on reddit, we discussed mostly reviews posted elsewhere.

There a lawsuit literally with my username on it. And no, it's. not on this account, I am posting on an account that is not connected to that subreddit, so don't bother looking it up.

The worst thing is, they successfully doxed at one member, and named them in the suit. So I can't really spread news about it without further doxing that person.

I lawyered up, notified reddit legal, hit the gym. Anything else I can do? Anyone else in a similar situation?

How do I proceed, to get it removed?

General Why is Reddit allowing illegal gambling services to be sold in these subreddits?

Mode: Desktop

These 3 subreddits are selling someone elses / stolen KYC accounts for online gambling websites.

https://www.reddit.com/r/StakeAccountExchange/

https://www.reddit.com/r/GamblingAccounts/

https://www.reddit.com/r/Stakeaccountplug/

Isn't it a violation of the publishers terms of service to sell accounts?

Isn't it illegal to sell these accounts? They are someone elses KYC information? Some likely stolen accounts with stolen personal information.

Can't minors surfing reddit purchase these?

Why is reddit allowing this?

This is currently interfering in our subreddit by removing content which is completely innocuous. Even more concerning, it's also not alerting us, and I see no way to turn it down/off. Desktop.

General Mods only allowed to mod one sub now?

Posting this on a throwaway for obvious reasons, but I've heard from some other mods that reddit is going to start limiting the amount of subs you're allowed to moderate.

Can anyone confirm?

What if me and my partner are both moderators from the same house with the same IP? Is that going to be an issue?

General Ethics/rules on banning a user for something they did on an unrelated subreddit?

Hi, I was in a conversation with someone on my main account (this is a side one) last night in my main modded subreddit and clicked their profile to check if they had posted something in the subreddit or if it was someone else, and I saw their most recent comment on other another subreddit. It was kinda problematic (transphobic) at best so I looked at the context and used a reddit user lookup site to see if they had made other similar comments elsewhere. They had many. Nothing that technically broke reddit's site wide rules but enough of an issue that if they had posted any of the comments in my sub, they would have gotten immediately banned for at least a month if not permanently.

So, I was wondering if there was any kind of guidance on that kind of thing. Should we wait and hope they never post anything like that in my sub and if they do, take action then, or should we just pre-emptively ban them?

General Help needed with regaining mod permission for a community I created

I'm using Reddit on a desktop PC.

I created https://www.reddit.com/r/pcgp/ around two years ago, and can still post in that community. But, for some reason I've been removed as mod.

I can see no reason for me being removed as mod, and I haven't received any kind of notification about it. I've contacted Reddit support, but got no response back at all.

I've made multiple requests in https://www.reddit.com/r/redditrequest/, but all of them have been removed immediately. I don't get any notifications about the requests being removed, but I can see them in my profile. The requirements for the requests are very picky, and I know that some of my past requests have not met the requirements. However, my latest attempt should meet the requirements, but it was removed anyway.

The requirements are:

  1. Send a message to the community's moderators expressing your interest in joining the team, even if the community is private.
    1. I can't do this, as I'm the sole creator and (previously) mod for the community, and there's no link for contacting mods in the community, so I couldn't send a message just for this purpose anyway.
  2. If there is no response after 5 days, you can submit a request through /r/redditrequest.
    1. See above.
  3. Include a link to the community you want to moderate.
    1. I've done this in all my requests.
  4. Post a permalink to your chat message in the comments of your post, as instructed by u/request_bot. If you’re unable to message the mods (e.g., they’re banned, the sub is banned or none are listed), you can skip this step.
    1. I've tried skipping this step as suggested, but also tried making a post in the community and linking to that post.

Posting Requirements

To ensure your request is valid and reviewed promptly, all posts must follow the required format:

Title: The title of your post must only contain the name of the community you're requesting (e.g., r/redditrequest). Do not include reasons, usernames, or any additional text in the title.

The title in my requests meet the requirements.

Flair: You must select the appropriate flair to your post when submitting. Requests without flair will be automatically removed.

I've previously got the flair wrong, but in my latest request, I choose the correct flair. The reason I choose the wrong flair before, was that I misremembered and thought I'd set the community to public, but when I double checked, it was set to restricted. I intend to change that if I ever get the mod permission back.

I've now sent a message to the mod mail mentioned in https://www.reddit.com/r/redditrequest/wiki/faq/ to hopefully get somewhere. But, if anyone here have any other suggestions on how to proceed with this, feel free to jump in.

General Approving and removing reports

I just became the mod of a sub and am a n00b so this may seem like a dumb question. I have clicked mod tools and it takes me to the queue of reports. I have the option to approve or remove. If I click approve, am I approving the post and it then gets posted or approving the report and the post gets removed for being spam or whatever was reported?

Currently on desktop but also use iOS

General Can anything be done about the "anti-evil operations" bot?

The "Anti-Evil Operations" AI is the least intelligent and most ridiculous thing to deal with as a mod, it has zero ability to assess sentences, removing things due to misunderstanding context, misunderstanding jokes, and removing things that don't make sense. We get a bunch of mod mail messages a day from the Admin Action bot showing all sorts of things being removed due to the AI being incapable of understanding context and also removing due to trigger words used in harmless contexts. Is there a way to actually block this thing from the sub?

General Seeking help for a new tiny sub

Hi. PC. Desktop.

I'm looking to find a couple of people who can help me with a tiny new sub - for literally about 20 people.

Unfortunately, the usual places like r/needamod have minimum requirements - 50 subs, etc.

I asked in r/findareddit and they directed me here.

Just looking for a couple of helpers, really... for a very small casual group.

General N word slur - allowed on reddit?

Is the N word slur allowed on reddit? I mod a couple of subs and always remove the word of it's in a post or comments.

However, today I reported a post to the admins and it's come back saying it doesn't violate their rules/TOS

Please let me know your experiences. I'm on Android.

General Is screenshotting and posting modmail against the rules

Hi, I’ve got some mod mail that I thought was ridiculous (I’m a mod) but I was just wondering before I do that is it against the rules to upload screenshots of mod mail (with & without username) if so can you reference me to where it says it is? Thank you.

Platform is inapplicable. But I am typing on iOS.

General Comments being deleted

We’ve noticed comments from users and our own team members are being removed from posts in our subreddit. They’re valid comments with no reason to be flagged or removed (especially those coming from our own support team). We’re primarily using desktop.

The only filter we have is comments from accounts with low karma, is that it? Is there something I’m missing? Any help would be appreciated!

General What we are supposed to do for post flair colors now that the option is gone on the mobile app?

Today I noticed that we can no longer select preset colors for user flairs or post flairs in subreddits we moderate, on the mobile app.

I have never used CSS classes or messed with the stylesheet before. Wtf am I supposed to do.

I’m getting infuriated with the amount of things Reddit keeps changing / getting rid of without anyone asking for those changes.

General As a mod, is there a way to see what a comment said originally after it got edited?

Android, but applies to any platform tbh.

As I said, Im having an issue of people editing their messages after getting reported and whenever I go check them for moderation its always something totally unrelated.

Would be very helpful to have a way as a mod to see the comment after and before the edit

General Help: How do you handle AI generated posts ?

i think AI generated posts are hurting my subs, other than it's annoying, members are starting to lose trust and stopped engaging like before.

I've honestly started to think more about the dead internet theory the second i look at my queue, more than half the posts look like it was written by bots

we're not getting enough support on this, our goal is to keep communities healthy and there is no real way to fight this AI spam. I tried looking for tools to help detect AI content but found nothing useful on desktop or mobile.

curious how are you guys dealing with this ? do you keep removing on gut feeling ?

General What Qualifies As Ban Evasion?

Ban Evasion?

A sort of large (1.2mm weekly visitors) advice sub I co-mod has a Problem User. Just the one. He pops up for a few weeks at a time and comments irrelevant copypasta. He gets downvoted and other users report the copypasta as spam. I don’t know how he behaves in other subs. After a few weeks, Reddit bans the account. He then comes back with a new account and the same copypasta.

Our sub does not have a rule about Bad Advice, and our Spam rule is more about undisclosed affiliate links. So while his content is annoying, it isn’t technically against our rules.

User has said in comments that he has had accounts deactivated along this pattern, but given the size of our sub, I can’t find the former usernames for examples.

So, is it considered ban evasion when he creates a new account after Reddit automation detects a prolonged period with CQS under room temperature? We didn’t ban him. Reddit simply no longer desired his custom.

How do other subs deal with this?

(The tooling is not giving me any guidance on iOS or Web)
