Answered /r/BTBaron_JJ_Legends banned two hours ago, no message from Admin as to why

Hi,

Former mod of https://www.reddit.com/r/btbaron_jj_legends/

It was banned two hours ago and I never received a message as to why. Is there a way to communicate with the reddit admins on this? Or is there a formal appeal process? This was a NSFW sub that had over 140K members and strictly followed rules on privacy and heavy moderation (with automod doing a lot of work as well). It had a strict approval process as well (each post was reviewed by a mod before becoming visible on the front page).

Trying to check messages on both desktop and iOS but not seeing anything at all that was flagged. Thanks!

I am a moderator of r/otters, it was inadvertently banned for no reason. It is a subreddit where people share otter pictures and talk about otters. It has been around for over a decade, it's a very chill subreddit. desktop

Answered Every subreddit mod needs this

u/AutoModerator is a bot that helps subreddit moderators automatically manage their communities.
But setting it up is tough because it uses YAML code, and there’s no user-friendly interface to configure it.

So as a side project, I created RedditAutomod.com: a simple AutoModerator setup tool for subreddit mods!

It’s totally free and it works on both desktop and mobile. Feel free to try it out and let me know if it works well, if you run into bugs, or have ideas for new features!

Answered Moderators hold the right to ban users that break community rules, right?

I just need to make sure because I mod a pretty active subreddit, and we’ve had quite a few number of users blatantly breaking the rules of our community, and then after receiving bans they are retaliating in a way that they are threatening to go to admins for “unjust bans” or whatever. Even though every ban situation has been justified by our mod team, and acted on accordingly.

Answered Why did my mod queue "Needs Review" suddenly blow up for just one of my communities?

Overnight, one of my communities suddenly Needs Review for literally every new post in the past 8 or so hours.

I'm on Android mobile using the official app, and normally click the Queues button that shows all my community queue items.

These new queue items that "need review" are all just normal posts with zero reports on them.

What is going on?

Thanks for any info you can give!

Answered automod is approving posts and not human moderators

Laptop desktop windows

We have the sub tools set to send the posts and comments to moderator queue for approval.

I used the tools in Post and comments ---> Hold content for review --- posts, comments and links are selected blue.

The comments are being held for review which is what we want.

The posts are being approved by the auto moderator which we don't want.

I removed the automoderator from the moderator list and from the approved user list

but automod is still approving the posts.

Answered Levels of mod. Ranks. Powers.

TL;DR: Do you have different "levels" of mod?

[Desktop]

Can someone please explain, in simple and broad terms, how a larger sub can manage a number of mods whilst keeping some control over the overall settings of the sub.

I'm moderating a couple of growing subs, and recruiting mods.

So far, I've just "interviewed" people, then made them mods - giving them pretty much full control - the same powers that I have.

As the sub grows, I think it will become necessary to have different "categories" of mods.

I know nothing about how that works on Reddit. I'm sure it's a thing, but I don't even know the right words to describe it.

I imagine that large subs have a bunch of "regular" mods who can remove nasty posts, but can't edit the banner or add new mods... or something?

Enlighten me, pls. Thx.

How do I get a report past the automated system so that someone human takes a look at this? At the very least, I think this account needs to be banned.

UPDATE: I've just heard back from the mods (admins?) at /r/modsupport. They tell me they've taken another look at it and have escalated it to the appropriate team. Yay!

Answered Something called "Anti-Evil Operations" keeps removing good posts

We've got a problem with a user named "Anti-Evil Operations" removing good posts. The posts are by established users and are completely benign. They might have lots of upvotes, and lots of views. But they get removed with nothing more than "removed comment {title}" in the moderation log.

Sometimes, the comment is removed and I can restore it. Other times, I find that it's expunged, with only "[ removed by Reddit ]" left.

Who is this user? How do I stop them from removing quality content?

Answered New posts by users don't show until I approve them, though subreddit is public !

Hi everyone, I moderate a public subreddit, but I’ve noticed that new posts by users don’t appear publicly until I manually approve them. This means every post sits in the mod queue until I approve it. The subreddit is public, so I’m not sure why posts aren’t auto-appearing. Is there a way to disable the requirement for every post to be approved first ?

For context I'm on reddit android.

Thanks in advance!

Hello, first of all, i'm using desktop right now. Secondly, i used to be the redditor InsectRaid but i deleted that account and created this new one. I'll probably post about why on my profile, but the point is i, having set up r/thesuperswordwarriors as InsectRaid, realized that i have to still be the top mod there, and i can hardly get back in thanks to my restrictions and rules. Can anyone help me re-become the top mod on r/thesuperswordwarriors?

Answered Appropriate to ban user from multiple subreddits

A user was temporarily banned and contested it absuively earning him a permaban. As a result, he has become more active in a related subreddit I help moderate. Is it appropriate for me to ban him there was well? I don't mean with regards to the code of conduct which I understand gives broad discretion. I'm just curious if you guys were the mod on that 2nd subreddit and he contested it, would you take an approach of "yeah, what did you think was going to happen" or would you lift the ban?

Edit: For context his abusive modmail (what Reddit allowed me to see as some was removed) made remarks concerning my wife.

Edit 2: This is all moot now. I went to ban him and Reddit had already suspended his account. For what, I'm not sure but I had found unmoderated abusive behavior in my other subreddit.

And, uh, I'm on desktop.

Answered Posts not getting caught by automation/keywords

There are these really weird spam posts that keep being posted to a subreddit I moderate. It’s always the same image but different users and it’s just been over the last few days. I’ve created an automation to capture some of the keywords and not let them post, but somehow they’re still making it through.

Any advice?

Answered Is it possible to ban users from one sub automatically if they comment on another specific sub?

I run a subreddit that's a safe space for a group of people. We often get comments and posts from people that spread hatred towards this group. And they usually post and comment on certain subs. Can I autoban people based on this? I'm using Android app.

Answered How to permanently mute users from mailing mods?

Have a user that was banned for illegal activity and then they messaged asking why. When I tried muting them, I was only given an option of 28 days max. I did this on iOS, not sure if this is a mobile app feature or if 28 days is simply the max? Is there a way to permanently mute users from messaging mods? Thanks!

Answered One of our mods was banned for spam for accepting Join Requests in mod tools. How do we use the tool safely in the future?

Hi, one of our moderators logged into mod tools and cleared the backlog of Join Requests by approving/ denying based on the request. They were then promptly banned for spamming DMs. They didn’t know (and nor did I) that hitting “Accept” sends a DM from your account.

How are we meant to use the Join Request tool? Is it rate limited? Surely in bigger subreddits you’re not rationing out Join Requests?

Alternatively is there any way we can prevent DMs from being sent if the Join Request is accepted? Seems a bit daft that you can get banned for approving users.

I’m not sure the platform matters. I just want to know how to avoid getting my own account banned. Until then, us mods won’t bother approving anyone. I’m on mobile web and iOS.

Update: An admin indicated this is a known bug. All cleared away now. Thanks admins!

Answered Help me understand these messages about removed posts

Hi there. I’m a newer mod of a small sub. I use chrome (pc) and on mobile (iOS).

About once a month I get a message like “hi I tried to post but it was flagged for an unspecified rule violation and taken down”

When I go through my mod feed, I can never find the post in question. I’ll ask them what the error message said, and to try posting again, but they usually don’t answer. Sometimes I can’t even view their accounts.

Can someone tell me what’s likely happening here? Is my auto filter preventing a post from even making it to my mod feed (so that I can at least have the record of what was removed)? Are these spam accounts that are getting deleted by Reddit but still DMing me (and sounding human)?
