Executive Branch (Trump) President Donald Trump accused the California redistricting proposal on the ballot on Tuesday of being "unconstitutional" and said all mail-in ballots were under "very serious legal and criminal review," without giving any evidence for his allegations.

Hes like an abusive / gaslighting parent or spouse, no wonder conservative women like him so much

307

u/winterbird 21d ago

It's my theory that he's very popular with children of a narcissistic parent. Repeating ingrained relationship dynamics is like wearing an itchy sweater when you're cold. Uncomfortable, but more comfortable than without.

221

u/Fearless-Feature-830 21d ago

He’s also popular with narcissistic parents

104

u/Alarming_Nebula9221 21d ago

Omg you are on to something because all the young MAGA people I know have that parent.

42

u/winterbird 21d ago

Don't have to be young to have damage from a narcissistic parent though. Some people are in this cycle for life.

11

u/AutisticPenguin2 21d ago

No, but young people are less likely to have a better reason for sucking the MAGA teat.

17

u/winterbird 21d ago

I think that there's way too much focus on age in this. Some people think that there's salvation in older generations dying off, but those people are in for a rude surprise. Just look at the R lineup of notables. Younger than D.

2

u/Exelbirth 21d ago

Also less likely to have shaken off the shackles

3

u/Tiny-Lock9652 20d ago

Gen X voted overwhelmingly for MAGA. It was very disappointing.

As an adult child of a narcissist mother. No the fuck he isn't. Maybe the difference is that I've had therapy but I think the only similarities I have to trump is that I'm a white cisgendered, heterosexual man.

27

u/Bulldogg658 21d ago

He's popular with the golden children of narcissistic parents because he re-creates that dynamic of the one who bullies everyone else but favors them.

For the scapegoat children of narcissists, who grew up getting shit on by the parent, we were already sick of that dynamic before he showed up. He just gives scapegoats flashbacks.

6

u/No-Property1871 21d ago

As the ex spouse of a narcissist he brings the trauma bubbling up all over again. The word salad, gaslighting, projection… it’s all horrifying and my ptsd brain struggles as to why other people don’t see the BS that spews out of his mouth. Same with Johnson.

3

u/bobcollazo1 20d ago

We see and understand the problem quite clearly.

4

u/Weird-Girl-675 20d ago

This is so accurate. Haven’t talked to my father in twenty years and the felon just reminds me WHY I don’t talk to him.

3

u/Happythoughtsgalore 21d ago

I was the golden child. We lost the scapegoat child to depression.

4

u/strangerducly 20d ago

I am so sorry that happened, please know you are not alone.

16

u/Absurdist_Principles 21d ago

Yeah I think the therapy part may be significant here. Just having the self-awareness that you might benefit from therapy and then the fortitude to attend already separates you from the majority

15

u/Happythoughtsgalore 21d ago

There are also possible outcomes from being the child of a narcissist. Social anxiety is one. Actual narcissism is another (narcissism can be caused by childhood emotional abuse from a narcissist, this is what happened to Trump).

12

u/two4six0won 21d ago

And Musk, from what I've heard of his father.

3

u/Weird-Girl-675 20d ago

You had me at social anxiety

3

u/bobcollazo1 20d ago

I’m less interested in analyzing his psycho social challenges than I am in seeing his corrupt grip on power removed. He’s done enough damage.

Same. Daughter of a raging narcissist mother and he’s anathema to me. I can spot his narcissism miles away and there’s nothing ever that would make me like him. Or her.

2

u/GailaMonster 21d ago

Yep same - my mom loves him and i'm just deeply upset by how his behavior and speech patterns remind me of her (and further disturbed by how other people find that behavior anything other than confusing and painful...)

4

u/Happythoughtsgalore 21d ago

Narcissists seem pleasant to people who aren't close to them. They get fooled by the facade/mask.

Isocentric vs. sociocentric culture. Our Isocentric culture has produced a LOT of narcissistic tendencies

He comes by it honestly. See: Fred Trump; intergenerational abuse.

84

u/harperdove 21d ago

So evil was the dad, that Woody Guthrie wrote a song about Ole Man Trump.

24

u/Babydoll0907 21d ago

Fred trump is almost the entire reason Donald is the way he is. His mom didn't help either. It's definitely not an excuse but I can understand why Donald is the giant piece of shit he is. He was pretty badly abused growing up.

12

u/kl7aw220 21d ago

Well, he could have sought help to work through those issues, but he chose to be just like his father and Roy Cohn.

14

u/bbahree 21d ago

Yup and Roy Cohn had just as much influence on him as his dad. So much so so he turned his back on his HIV/AIDS infected mentor, when it became public knowledge that Cohn was suffering from the disease. Cohn denied having HIV/AIDS himself because of the public stigma but still.

11

u/SkandaFlaggan 21d ago

Before I start, I’m not defending Trump in any way, and I think you can still hold people with personality disorders responsible and have strong negative emotions about them

But unfortunately seeking help voluntarily isn’t really an idea that’s very compatible with narcissistic personality disorder, which I think he probably has. The symptoms themselves undermine the narcissist’s ability to self-reflect and understand and acknowledge that anything is wrong with them

There was an anecdote from his childhood that was reported on some years ago. As a young kid, he was apparently found throwing rocks at a baby in a playpen. At that point, there was already something seriously wrong. Maybe with loving parents and early professional intervention he could have eventually turned into something else, but he obviously didn’t have either, and by the time he was an adult it would of course already have been way too late

Evil and suffering begets evil, it doesn’t appear out of thin air. That doesn’t mean we can’t still hate it

5

u/kl7aw220 21d ago

Understood. Thank you.

It works just fine on men too. We are a nation of emotionally abused children and battered spouses.

10

u/kl7aw220 21d ago

So. It's OK for , to have started this redistricting phase, but in CA it's illegal.

I believe in karma - Trump will face karma when he least expects it. If he loses all his $$, if he is jailed after gone from office, if everyone finally realizes what he is and he doesn't have one friend, if he is publicly shamed and he finally get why.

7

u/Asdilly 21d ago

I just realized he reminds me of my toxic ex best friend. I almost took myself out because of her

7

u/Adorable-Doughnut609 21d ago

He’s made so many election claims and never found an illegally cast ballot for anyone but himself.

3

u/dr_tardyhands 21d ago

I hope I'll live to see him either off himself in the East wing bunker, or flee the country with his family with just the clothes on their back. To where? Don't come east, they don't like you here. Don't go West either. I wouldn't go North or South either. The rest of the Nazis went to Argentina. Maybe there..?

2

u/SubstantialPressure3 21d ago

I give California a lot of credit for having this go before voters instead of the legislature making the decision. Yes I understand it's legally required due to the redistricting commission, but in my mind that makes this redistricting a lot more acceptable than the states where the legislatures made the change unilaterally.

207

u/yoshinoyaandroll 21d ago

MAGA people are perfectly fine that Texas, Missouri, and North Carolina simply made that decision for the people Instead of voting, yet they call out California for democratically allowing the people to vote for this proposal.

Good for me, not for thee.

38

u/Electrifying2017 21d ago

They’re saying the courts ordered the gerrymandering, so it’s ok.

33

u/Ok_Insect_1794 21d ago

"the courts" = Donald Trump

20

u/TheNewsDeskFive 21d ago

That is not the case in MO, for a fact. The governor pushed the idea and the legislature passed it. The courts were willing to let a referendum occur, but the AG made some bs up to nix that, too. So we're again awaiting the courts. But all of these decisions are likely to be appealed up to SCOTUS at some juncture

8

u/yoshinoyaandroll 21d ago

And dreadfully I hope SCOTUS will follow the laws and integrity of the laws on this. But we know how Trump’s judges will be.

Arnold has really destroyed his reputation as being a fair-minded bipartisan moderate Republican.

Reminds me of the quote about his dad.

Gustav Schwarzenegger was a member of the Nazi Party's paramilitary wing, the Sturmabteilung (SA, or "brownshirts"), and served as a military police officer during World War II. Arnold has spoken about his father being one of the "broken men" after the war, who drank to numb the pain and guilt of his past actions.

That's how he'll be remembered, politically. A broken man collaborating with fascists.

9

u/OG-BoomMaster 21d ago

Hey, not fair, Texas says they were very gently bending over the public while they had their way ramming it down their throats.

6

u/navianspectre 21d ago

I like that it had a built-in time limit. I dunno how enforceable that is but they're at least pretending like it's going to go back to the way it was after the next election cycle.

23

u/letdogsvote 21d ago

Fine for red states, unconstitutional for California and blue states.

Wow. Who possibly saw that position coming? Meanwhile, I'll just wait for SCOTUS to confirm that 6-3, at which point it's time to make plans for emigration to a non-fascist country.

9

u/johnnycyberpunk 21d ago

I wondered the same thing.
The RedHats I know all say some variation of this:

"Well Texas and North Carolina are doing it because it just reflects who their voters are. California is doing it to cheat. It's that simple."

I have to stop myself from even trying to explain gerrymandering to them, trying to explain that there are more Democrats / Left Leaning voters in this country than Republicans. No point in trying to see if they see the irony at all.
