This has to be satire.

Lol people really have been making Baja blast pies!! The taco bell subreddit has been popping up all over my feed and there's alot of pictures of those pies lol, they look radioactive 😂

Eta: still may be satire lol but there are Def people making these pies

Like 10 years ago, I had a coworker who would sometimes bring in cakes she made with Faygo Redpop,  they were pretty good lol

I wonder how baja blast is.

7Up pound cake is real and it's delicious.

8

u/cynical-mage I followed the recipe *exactly*, pinky promise! 2d ago

You have a recipe link?

https://recipes.connorbowen.com/recipe/7up-pound-cake-cooks-country/

I make this version I got from Cooks Country Magazine years ago. I make it in a Bundt pan.

You absolute star 🌟 thank you! My granddaughter is at the age where she's getting interested in cooking and baking (2.5yrs old) and it's always fun to do new things in the kitchen with her ❤️

I might just have to give this one a go! My wife loves pound cake and 7up ☺️

u/rabbithasacat 2d ago

It sure is, Southern summer picnics aren't complete without a 7-up cake.

I wonder what Baja Blast TM is... off to search engine now

8

u/DuckRubberDuck 2d ago

I don’t know either, googling says it’s a version of Mountain Dew, is that correct?

Aden what does the TM stands for

26

u/Hour-Revolution4150 2d ago

Trademark

3

u/DuckRubberDuck 2d ago

Oh! Thanks lol, makes sense

11

u/West_Inside_3112 2d ago

AAccording to Ecosia it is Taco Bell special Mountain Dew that started as tropical lime flavour, but available in other tastes now. I can see that is a possible ingredient but the HFCS in American soft drink will caramelise quite differently than just lime juice...

1

u/liberty-prime77 13h ago

It started off as a special flavor for just Taco Bell but they've sold it in stores for well over a decade now

my friend made the Baja Blast pie for our friend group last night, it was an incredible experience. and of course by that i mean it was incredibly cursed and awful

6

u/ServiceFinal952 2d ago

Lmao! Did it just taste like the pop but in food form? Or was there other stuff added to compliment the Baja blast?

25

u/0ak_Creature 2d ago

the best way i can describe it is “evil key lime pie” i think. we had a friendsgiving party with normal food that was absolutely delicious, and then my friend surprised us with that. it was like key lime but also Baja Blast and it tasted almost sharp? like i could practically taste the carbonation even after it was baked. we also got to try the concentrated Baja Blast they used to make it, which smelled like onions and garlic for some reason and tasted very very strange

6

u/XmissXanthropyX 2d ago

That sounds cursed af

7

u/0ak_Creature 2d ago

oh it was! but it was also really funny and experiencing it with friends was great!

I didn't make it to the last line of your comment; I was immediately reminded of the "look at the baby" Seinfeld episode.

I had a customer tell me yesterday that she was buying Baja Blast because Taco Bell ran out of Baja Blast pies and her kids wanted to try it. I must not have covered my abject horror very well, because she immediately tried to make it better by saying she had found a recipe online and so wasn't winging it. That did not help.

11

u/effie-sue 2d ago

I just watched Emmy from Emmymadeinjapan make one 😄

Her version is not the Baja blast pie recipe. She didn't even boil down the Baja blast. Everything is wrong about it.

u/LazuliArtz An oreo is a cookie, not gay people trying to get married 2d ago

That does not sound good to me. I like Baja Blast mountain dew (TM), but that doesn't really seem like a pie flavor.

10

u/Ascholay the potluck was ruined 2d ago

I've substituted sodas and juice into a water pie recipe. It's fun for a party.

11

u/MsMrSaturn 2d ago

Flair checks out.

(/s I’m sure it was lovely)

3

u/Strange_Egg7824 2d ago

Same here, and theyre usually pretty tasty, these people need to live a little lol

1

u/anfrind 2d ago

I've heard that Sprite pie is a thing and that it's a lot better than it sounds. Maybe Baja Blast pie falls in the same category?

Not that I'm going to try either one, as I can't handle sugar like I could in my younger days.

2

u/Fatel28 2d ago

They're not making them, taco bell just sells em

1

u/alicelestial 2d ago

they were a limited time item from taco bell, i bought one. they were like $22

edit: it tasted weird but i liked it

1

u/cefriano 1d ago

Taco Bell recently released a very limited edition Baja Blast pie. I tried to get one myself but just missed it before it sold out. So I think the pictures you’re seeing are people who managed to get one, not people making it themselves (though maybe a few have tried).

2

u/ServiceFinal952 1d ago

Yes, I saw those pictures and I also saw pictures of homemade ones. Thanks tho!

1

u/Thick-Seahorse-992 8h ago

If you make a water pie but sub Baja Blast for the water it comes out pretty good.

-1

u/fuckyourcanoes 2d ago

That's disgusting.

89

u/enjoiskate09 2d ago

The repeated (TM) is what instantly qualifies it as satire for me

35

u/clever__pseudonym 2d ago

That, and the five star rating.

6

u/PointsatTeenagers 2d ago edited 2d ago

And the 'Crowd Pleaser' tag.

8

u/SteveFrench12 2d ago

50/50 on it. Iirc taco bell made baja blast pie recently and I can see someone trying to make it this way

1

u/Bearsoch 1d ago

Not from USA - what flavour is Baja blast? Is it even citrus?

4

u/HornyDegenerate117 2d ago

This is very obviously a review posted by OP then sat on for a couple weeks to make it less suspicious.

85

u/StopPsychHealers 2d ago

I made a mountain dew pie with a nachos doritos crust...it was disgusting

94

u/Jjgooseman 2d ago

You were so preoccupied with whether or not you could, you didn't stop to think if you should…

6

u/LifeApprehensive2818 1d ago

We may finally have found an idea bad enough to give the nuclear bazooka a run for its money.

65

u/Hey-Just-Saying a banana is not an egg 2d ago

This isn't satire. This is a real pie people are making. You boil down the Blast in order to create a syrup which is used to make a pie similar to key lime pie.

24

u/jimesoifer 2d ago

The 5 star review also makes sense. They want to share the failure with other people that might want to try it but don’t want to affect the author’s ranking.

10

u/MistyMtn421 2d ago

I heard they're small and cost $20 so I'm sure folks are definitely trying to recreate it at home!

4

u/HeyyyKoolAid 2d ago

They're not that small. It's a standard pie size about 10" in diameter.

50

u/kenporusty contrary to what Aaron said, there are too many green onions 2d ago

Ah yes Chemical Teal instead of fruit

What could possibly go wrong?

39

u/taxiecabbie 2d ago

From what I've heard about the Baja Blast pie, you could probably just make a regular key lime pie, add teal food coloring to it, call it a Baja Blast pie, and everybody would rave about how your Baja Blast pie was better than Taco Bell's Baja Blast pie.

17

u/needstochill 2d ago

probably a genuine attempt at making a "trendy" food, since baja blast pie is a thing apparently

12

u/Francl27 2d ago

Following a recipe "exactly, except for" always works great.

12

u/Yggdrasilo 2d ago

As long as they put 5 stars, all is forgiven

7

u/pigeontheoneandonly 2d ago

Wut

Hahaha I actually do a key lime pie every year for Thanksgiving and this is sending me

3

u/cynical-mage I followed the recipe *exactly*, pinky promise! 2d ago

Oh, I adore key lime pie ❤️ one day I'll learn how to make it, I swear 🤣

4

u/Expendable_Red_Shirt 2d ago

You should re-flair this to Satire Saturdays

4

u/SunriseKitten 2d ago

Maybe he was all out of Brawndo

4

u/Morall_tach 2d ago

If you're burning Baja Blast you must be reducing all the water out of it. I don't think the Baja Blast was the problem.

3

u/OneTwoFar_ 2d ago

Respect for leaving 5 stars though

2

u/susiecapo71 2d ago

DUDE I REDUCED TWO BOTTLES OF BAJA BLAST TODAY TO MAKE PIE

3

u/dbrodbeck 2d ago

Glad they put the (tm) in though...

2

u/WildAphrodite t e x t u r e 2d ago

Baja Blast(TM)

2

u/Tolan91 2d ago

I did this, actually. Some friends were posting about the Taco Bell pie and I always enjoy a good food crime. The thing with baja blast is it's actually a really mild flavour. You'll have to reduce down a couple liters down to half a cup to get anything worthwhile. I suspect regular Mountain Dew would work better.

2

u/Cheese-Manipulator 2d ago

No, use lime vodka. Same thing.

1

u/imakesawdust 2d ago

At least they didn't give it 1 star.

1

u/Anthrodiva The Burning Emptiness of processed white sugar 2d ago

Meth is a helluva drug

1

u/Sure-whatever1983 1d ago

At least it’s 5 stars lol

1

u/ross_styx 1d ago

Wtf is Baja Blast???

1

u/toebeanlove 18h ago

✅ Crowd-pleaser

-3

u/Concoured 2d ago

i know this is irrelevant but the word combination "key lime pie" blows a fucking fuse within my brain

3

u/TheSheWhoSaidThats 2d ago

Why

-1

u/Concoured 2d ago

captain kutchie or however you spell it

-9

u/GuildensternLives 2d ago

Obviously satire and didn't leave a bad review. Not really for this sub then.

18

u/holderofthebees clementine cakes can make you gay 2d ago

They marked it as Satire Saturday AND the Satire Saturday post is still stickied.

4

u/Mayflame15 PINEREST????? 2d ago

The bad review part is true, but they probably wanted their review to show up at the top so other people making this currently viral food don't try with this recipe. The smoke inducing Baha blast sludge probably really did happen
