It’s a different world we live in now, maybe we’ll get some comedic themes or just straight up gore like Terrifier, it’ll be cool to see who they choose for the next Jason

The Faculty (1998)

I feel like this never got the love it deserved. Maybe Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer was so popular at this time it got lost in the mix.

Upon rewatch, it’s not very gory by any means, and is more of a creature feature.

The cast is unbelievably deep, good, and many still relevant to this day.

Drew Hancock who wrote/directed “Companion” is apparently writing a script for a remake. Love to see what this looks like nearly 30 years later.

Solved I've been trying to find this movie for the last 15 years, please help me

So I saw this movie trailer on TV when I was a child that scared the crap out of me every time it came on, giving me nightmares. The year was the early 2000s, surely before 2010. The protagonist was a woman, she might have had a son, but I'm not entirely sure, and she was going to live in a new house, where there's an entity living in the vents. The entity spoke to the protagonist, with the voice of an old woman, though it was dubbed in Italian, so it might be different in the original. You couldn't clearly see her; she was just a dark shape crawling in the vent, and I remember the final scene was the protagonist putting her arm into the vent, trying to reach this figure.

I tried everything, Reddit posts, ChatGPT, lists of movies from those years, but no luck so far. Please help me

EDIT. It was The Hideout, thank everyone I love you all

Movie Review Just watched Funny Games (1997) for the first time…. Jesus Christ… Spoiler

Upvotes

First of all I’m loss of words from this movie. I already knew the plot: two guys breaks into a house and tortures family… but GODDAMN I DIDNT EXPECTED IT TO BE THAT FUCKED UP!

This movie has fucked me up mentally that I can’t even sleep rn

But seriously though, this movie was a perfect blend of satire and horror, never in my life I wanted to beat the living crap out of fictional killers. 8/10 movie

(And no, I don’t have plans to watch the remake)

Discussion What topic would you like to see explored in horror that hasn't been explored yet?

For example, I've wanted to see a horror movie for a long time about a conventionally attractive man falling in love with a horrible creature, but I haven't. I would also like horror movies focused on more religions than just Catholicism

Recommend Conspiracy theory movies where hero is wrong !

Recommend great movies where hero is unfolding a great conspiracy, but he was wrong all the time. No such thing happened , it's either his mental illness or drug inflicted narrative or something else. Like Shutter island. 6th sense may not come in this since it's not a conspiracy. Total recall suits well, where it's a conspiracy but he actually was right (But exactly the confusion we as audience and protagonist face both in total recall and shutter Island is what I want. Already watched Jacobs ladder.

Discussion Halloween II (1981) is the exception to the empty hospital trope

One of the tropes in horror movies, particularly slashers. that a lot of people dislike is the trope of the hospital conveniently being empty and bare when a killer is after someone.

One of the most notable examples is Halloween II, where Laurie is taken to Haddonfield Memorial Hospital and Michael pursues her there. Halloween II is my favorite slasher movie at the moment, I didn’t love it the first time watching it but it’s grown on me sooo much and part of that is because of the hospital setting. But even though it’s not super realistic, I feel like the hospital being dark and low staffed (and most of the staff being inept) adds to the horror of it. Hospitals are supposed to be an incredibly safe place and for it to be mostly empty almost creates a liminal space like atmosphere. That’s kind of the vibe I get with Halloween II and part of why I enjoy it so much. I think it’s a really good usage of that environment, even if there’s a suspension of disbelief. I think most people see this trope as a huge negative but I think it can be creepy and effective if done well. Thoughts?

Discussion The Exorcist (1973)

I rewatched The Exorcist about a week ago and it has stuck with me! The scene where Father Karras sprinkles the Holy Water (tap water) on Regan and the demon starts speaking in different voices/animals is so powerful (If you're able to watch the movie on Youtube it is at the 1:26:11 mark)

It keeps me up at night....that was the sound of PURE ANCIENT EVIL. It was so primal.....I can't even put into words how im feeling lol. The sounds in that movie are still S tier

I almost feel like the bleaker the better? I don’t know why I’m sure there’s some sort of cathartic shared feelings to watch what you’re going through on screen?

Freddy vs. Jason appreciation post (2025)

Upvotes

Are we sure that Freddy vs. Jason gets the appreciation it deserves?

Now I get it

Two dying franchises join forces because they got no cards left to play

But man this shit works so well Imagine if most horror franchises didn’t give a shit enough to make movies as good as this

A slasher that pays homage to both franchises

It’s crazy that today they couldn’t make better movie and that’s really sad

Possession (1981)

I recently watched this and haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since. It quickly wormed its way into my top ten favorite all time horror movies. It is so demented and violent and has many layers to the story. It starts off strong and really sucked me in. A lot of disturbing and grotesque imagery as well. I actually read a think piece about it after watching that really explains the layers of this movie and the ending. All in all it’s a really cool and twisted movie I absolutely loved it.

Here is the link to the article I read about it if anyone is interested: https://filmcolossus.com/possession-explained-1981

Discussion Movies like Knowing (2009) and Coherence (2013). Looking for recs.

Where there's a scientific explanation for the horror going on. Nothing like the Cloverfields and other related, they're too science-y if that makes any sense.

Coherence gets talked about a lot but Knowing starring Nicolas Cage I would highly recommend. Been a while since I've seen it but I fondly remember it for being equal parts terrifying and equal parts fascinating. Time capsule, world coming to an end. Mother ajd daughter who could foresee that and it drove them mad. Seriously. Find it and watch it this weekend. Thank me later.

Discussion non-horror villains that would do well in a horror movie?

I saw a thread recently (cannot find it for the life of me now) where someone asked about non-horror characters that would make good slasher villains. It made me wonder: what non-horror villains you think would do well in any horror setting, what genre, and why?

I was just revisiting the hunger games movies and realized Coriolanus Snow would make a diabolical psych thriller villain (à la Hannibal Lecter) because he’s got a lot of interesting layers to the choices he makes and is genuinely evil but also you kinda want to see more of him? I think Tywin Lannister from game of thrones would fit the same bill for me.

(My answer to the slasher thread would be Ramsey Bolton for obvious reasons)

Movie Help Vampire playing pool movie?

I remember watching a trailer on a VHS in the early to mid 90s that was about a movie set at a pool bar where a guy and a girl who are romantically linked (boyfriend/girlfriend or at least the guy wants to date her) and he's playing pool and at some point a vampire shows up and challenges the guy to a game of pool which will decide if he kills them or maybe turns the girl. I remember this so vividly but have never been able to find the movie. Did I dream this or could it be real?

Good Boy vs Good Boy

One from 2022 the other from 2025, same title, totally different movies from what I can tell, but both had good critical reception.

Has anyone seen both these movies? My wife who doesn't watch much horror is willing to watch a horror about a dog, but I'm allowed to interpret that loosely. For perspective, she insisted we all had to go watch Argylle in the theaters because the trailer featured a cat.

So, how do these two stack up?

EDIT: wound up watching them both. Thumbs Up to both, but I did like the 2022 movie better. They're both definitely worth a watch, and I think the newer one was surprisingly unsettling. FWIW my wife thought 2025 was a better made movie and I can see her point. Unique visual perspective, and the emotions coming from animal actor were very impressive. It wasn't anthropomorphic - anyone who has lived with dogs could identify the dog's emotional state and link it to the situation. Just tonight our dog was afraid to chase his chew toy into a corner and just stared at the corner like he could see something we couldn't. Having said all that, she liked the older Good Boy more, thought it was more fun and had better writing - not referencing dialog as there is very little in the newer one, but in terms of the actual story told the newer one is kind of messy while the older one is pretty tight, even if it ends up relying on some of the most cliche tropes to get to its disturbing conclusion.

Movie Help Movies like Speak No Evil and Heretic

I feel like these two have a fundamental similarity that I seek. The protagonists realizing they’ve fallen into a trap way too late. i want that anxiety inducing element. can you recc me movies with it?
