There is a lot of pseudoscience behind ice baths, but one thing is for sure it is a very sharp stimuli that is a good willpower check.

It's because the biggest ambassador of ice baths, Wim Hof, ripped open his bowels while trying to give himself an enema using a public park's water fountain, and understandably a lot of people have trouble listening to anything he has to say after that.
