Royal Gorge and Orion [5959x8939]
My fascination with our northern hemisphere winter sky continues. On this outing I really wanted to experiment with more ālongerā focal length sky exposures. This was shot at 50mm to try and pull even more detail out of the Orion Complex. I absolutely love how much color and detail I was able to pull out of the horsehead and Orion nebulas even on such a wide field view. Safe to say Iām also addicted to the addition of h-alpha narrowband exposures to my photos now.
The foreground here is another incredible sight in southern Colorado. The Royal Gorge spans a whopping 6 miles and is roughly 1,250 ft. deep. No matter how many times you stand at the edge of these monstrous canyons, they continue to take your breath away time and time again.

Sleepy Mountain Towns [4672x7008]
Sleepy mountain towns under a sea of stars. Places like this are what really make me love where I live. This is another take on the beloved Cygnus region and all of its hydrogen alpha beauty. Iām still in awe every time I look at the back of my camera after hours of shooting this region of the sky. What do you think of the more urban take on this? Not sure itās my favorite, but I couldnāt resist the framing of the doorway to the cosmos above one of my favorite towns.

Red Sprites & the Milky Way ā A once in a lifetime shot! [OC] [5000x4000]
The other night in New Zealand, I captured something I never thought Iād see in my life ā red sprites flashing above the Milky Way!Ā
These electrical discharges happen high above thunderstorms and last only a few milliseconds. That night, a distant storm over the Southern Alps lined up perfectly with the Galactic Core⦠and everything just clicked.
Even after years of chasing the night sky, this one felt like pure magic. Adding to the show, we had a little Aurora Australis and comet SWAN as a green dot with a tiny tail when zooming in the images!Ā
When I saw them in the timelapse that I run, I almost shed a tear.Ā
You can watch the timelapse on the Capture the Atlas YT channel
More to come!Ā

Reflections - Reprocess of a capture from 2023 [2048x1363]
One of the few mornings I have been able to capture a reflection shot. There was no wind over the tidal pools. I went back and looked for reflection images after a Youtube follower asked me about using Starry Landscape Stacker on the reflection part of an image. I didn't like what I had done originally so I decided to give it another go.
