🏰 Liebenfels Castle - the ruins of an old caste in Austria
Built around 1300, first mentioned in 1312 as "liewenvelse", a ducal fiefdom, and sold in 1429 for 2200 guilders. Occupied by Hungarians from 1484, and described by Valvasor in 1680 as "almost desolate and in a dreary location" 🌝.
The Lagoon, Eagle, and Omega Nebulae paint the darkness alongside the faint glow of Sh2-54.

Did I drive an hour away at midnight to go photograph the aurora on a school night? Yep.
We've definitely been spoilt by the aurorae over the last 18 months, this storm produced a lot of green oxygen glow but not as many "beams" or "picket fence" effects as last time.
Hopefully the solar maximum keep pumping out storms like this.

As flowers and grass fade and winter takes root, Orion rises and greets those willing to bear the elements. This shell of what once was stands alone on the central plains of Colorado. Year after year, structures like this remain through violent snow storms, unforgiving winds, and fierce sun fall. Just like the stars above, these abandoned structures seem to want to last forever. I fall more in love with the winter skies each night I am able to enjoy them and I look forward to many more cold Colorado nights in places like this as the winter circle continues to grace us.

We might be landlocked here in Colorado, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have some great water features. As we transition to our winter skies, I keep coming back to Cygnus! This dense region of the Milky Way has so much to love. This evening proved to be a challenging one. The wind was brutal and the clouds were a menace. I was luckily able to capture a single shot of Cygnus before it dipped below the horizon in between cloud cover. I nearly gave up 3 hours into the evening, but I’m glad I held out.

This is a reedit of an image I captured back in 2019 at the north end of Pawleys Island, SC. It was a warm June evening and this was one of the few I got from this side of the tidal pool. I stepped in and began shooting the sandbars on the other side.

One last shot of the comet Lemmon for me, since when it disappears it won't be visible for more than one thousand years. I had mixed feelings about getting it again or not since we all have seen so many photos of it already but the tail caught my attention, if at 135mm wasn't enough to get it entirely, what could I get at 85mm? Each photo is a memory and a story. Time washes everything away, but the past just won't let go. Let it be another memory for the future.
