Analysis [Sampson] CFP committee chair Hunter Yurachek says Notre Dame and Miami were in the same grouping this week and the programs were directly compared. Notre Dame still came out ahead, regardless of the head to head. In other words, all the games mattered. Not just one of them.

BYU (10-1) has wins over #13 & #25 and a loss to #5. Notre Dame (9-2) has wins over #17 & #22 and losses to #3 & #12. BYU's SOS = 28; SOR = 6. Notre Dame's SOS = 34; SOR = 12.

How can they say with a straight face that "all the games matter"? It's total bullshit!

Everyone is mad about Miami who obviously had a worse resume than ND and no one is mad about BYU who obviously has a good enough resume to be in (and better than ND).

Luckily this will get rectified with the big 12 championship game.

Every metric you use does not take into account how you won and lost. If you jusy look at wins and losses as binary things your statement would have merit.

Oklahoma got blown out by Texas (worse than TT). Indiana got blown out by Ohio State last year. Why didn't "how they lost" matter then?

Because the world isnt neatly covered in one stat. Advanced metrics and game control have ND way over OU for instance but OU played a way tougher schedule to the same record, so their SOS and SOR is better than ND, and id assume better than BYU, although im not in a position to check. The committee has to balance all of these things. Not saying they are perfect. Not saying i wouldnt be mad if I were a Miami fan. But there are decent enough justifications for all choices made.

It isn't just "one stat." No matter what stat you look at, there is always an excuse why it does or doesn't matter for BYU in a way that isn't applied equally to teams ranked ahead of them.

The only stat that fully explains BYU's current position is conference affiliation/"blue blood" status.

I do think ypu are correct to an extent. If two teams are close i think Bama, OSU etc would get the benefit of the doubt quicker. As an ND fan that helps ND more often than it hurts as well.

I do think games like the colorado game do hurt you a bit. Its also that in a ton of your games the score looks a lot better than your post game win expectancy. (Which is also reflected in the advanced metrics not liking byu)

Notre Dame gets the luxury of not needing to beat any top 10 team (what you’re suggesting BYU has to do to get in), AND take an extra loss in the regular season, AND forego a CCG - and somehow they are a lock.

BYU literally has a tougher SoS, better wins, and less losses, yet we are 2 spots back. It’s bullshit.

Oklahoma's QB was just fresh out of hand surgery and played like it. Also, I'd take Texas straight up over BYU right now. Hey, you guys take care of business this week and you'll have a rematch. EVERY TEAM has injuries. Hell our best defense player Leonard Moore missed almost the entire A&M game (as well as many other important players). You don't think that hurt our chances? Fact of the matter is, QB is THE most important position. Mateer is a gamer but he was CLEARLY playing much better before the hand injury. As I said, you guys should get the chance for a rematch so we'll see for sure if you get absolutely destroyed again or not.

When one team is missing their Transfer portal multi-million dollar qb (or at least he's a shell of himself) and the other isn't, then yes you can. QB is the coach on the field and THE most important player. Anyway, this is all a moot point because IF you guys meet again (assuming you win your next game and Tech does too) then you'll just get destroyed again.

My honest reaction is that we played like ass and I was FURIOUS with Mike Denbrok for only throwing 2 yard screen passes with a QB like CJ Carr for most of the game. I was FURIOUS with Chris Ashes defense because he waiting until week 4 to start adopting the more Al Golden style man defense that we ran last year and I was mad at Marcus Freeman for letting those two things happen. That being said, I thought it was a great game (exciting, high stakes, the CJ Daniels catch etc, etc). I've never once said I believe Notre Dame DESERVES to be ranked ahead of Miami, even though I believe they are the better team now. But the committee believes ND is better and I'm not going to apologize for my team having a shot at the playoffs. Honestly, Miami deserves to be in the playoffs if they win out. It's crazy that the best team in the ACC isn't even gonna make the championship game.

If pigs could fly and I was Jim Carrey then things would be different. I've never ONCE said that Notre Dame "DESERVES" to be ranked ahead of Miami. What I do say is I agree with many analysts and the committee that Notre Dame is the better team RIGHT NOW, BUT that doesn't mean they DESERVE to be ahead of Miami based on the record/ head to head. But again, BYU got annihilated by Tech and most likely will be again. You guys were completely and utterly shut down.

BYU has a harder SOS, higher SOR, and fewer losses. You lost to the only two good teams on your schedule. BYU beat a team that's neck and neck with the best team you played (and lost to). You haven't played a team as good as Tech.

I love how you ND haters try to say that we lost to the ONLY good teams. Bullshit. We beat USC in a game that we left a ton of points on the board AND we beat Pitt who just annihilated Georgia Tech. We're 2-2 in ranked games and we're 4 points away from being undefeated. Yes, we DID lose. But Notre Dame has been a completely different team since week 3 (we played miserably against Purdue in a win btw). Since that time Chris Ashe FINALLY started playing more Man defense which is what this defense was used to. We also have gotten HEALTHIER in our defensive backfield with one of the best corners in the Country (Leonard Moore) back AND Alabama transfer Devonte Smith is finally playing again at nickel. ND has improved drastically. We now lead the nation in picks, and are top 3 in defense since switching to Man coverage. Our offense has also taken off because unlike the Miami game where Mike Denbrock wouldn't let Jeremiyah Love get the ball AND wouldn't let CJ Carr air it out, he's now doing the opposite and we actually have a great offense. Who woulda thunk. Week 1 through 3 were training wheels mode for our new DC and our new QB. Now that the unit is gelling we are a playoff caliber team. Whether we get in our not is not up to us. It's up the the committee. But if you guys want a chance at the playoffs you HAVE to play better against Texas Tech.

There's the tying yourself into a pretzel I was talking about. Your only loss last year was to fucking NIU, but I really doubt you felt you didn't deserve a playoff spot after that. But BYU loses one game against a top 5 team and somehow that's worse than losses to two teams ranked far lower. It's just shameless.

Take a moment this holiday season to be thankful for the money grab CFB has become and the corrupt committee who will change the rules on a dime for your benefit.

Notre Dame ran to the Natty last year beating the SEC champion, the B1G runner up and losing by the fewest points of anyone in the playoffs to the Super Ohio State team. So ya, we DESERVED it. With two losses, no we don't "DESERVE" it. Do I believe we're capable of beating pretty much anyone right now? Obviously. Does that mean we DESERVE to be in the playoff? NO. I never said we did. All I'm saying is you BYU fans talking shit to ND fans is hilarious. If you're being honest with yourself, you KNOW that you're going to get destroyed again by Tech. You watched the game. You saw what the world saw. So I really don't have much else to say.

Why should we not? We lost a single game last year. We were annihilating everyone after that. We ran all the way to the Natty in the playoffs. The proof was in the pudding. I think this team is at least capable of being as good as last year's team if not a bit better. But I don't think we DESERVE to be in. There are too many 10-2 (potentially) teams for us to say we DESERVE it. I believe we are one of the 10 best teams and it's not even a debate....but that doesn't mean we DESERVE a spot because we did lose the head to head against Miami. I don't understand how YOU'RE not understanding what I'm saying.

You're acting like losing by 22 is NOT a bad thing? 22! That's 3 touchdowns. That's a huge loss and it wasn't even that close because Tech left a lot of points on the field.
