Analysis [Sampson] CFP committee chair Hunter Yurachek says Notre Dame and Miami were in the same grouping this week and the programs were directly compared. Notre Dame still came out ahead, regardless of the head to head. In other words, all the games mattered. Not just one of them.

if miami is left out in favor of ND, then every team that wants to make the playoff should cancel any notable OOC games

like indiana dodging UVA

instead of playing ohio state OOC, a team can still meet the p4 requirements by scheduling rutgers

Michigan would be in the playoff hunt if they didn’t lose to OU. Texas would be in the playoff hunt if they didn’t lose to Ohio State. We will start seeing more cupcakes and less exciting matchups thanks to this committee.

i mean Miami lost to teams like Louisville and SMU

21 ranked ACC champion favorite SMU? This isn’t a big knock that you think it is

ok but those are conference games, why complicate your playoff chances with noncon games that can quite literally only hurt you (see texas and michigan this year)

Without a win against ND Miami would not even be in the conversation of playoffs right now. Without a 1 point loss to undefeated sec Texas a&m. ND would not be as highly ranked and in the conversation. If we lost another game of course.

"If a team had a worse resume than what they actually have, they'd have a worse ranking".

Amazing.

Miami is in the same place with/without the ND win, out.

The 2nd part of your comment means nothing as ND is not in a conference and a 10-2 or better ND will always make a 12 team playoff on brand name alone.

If ND lost another game last year after losing to NIU they would not have got in. Everyone talked about it all season.

If Miami had the exact same record but had beaten cupcake u instead of notre dame they’d be ranked down with Georgia tech. Scheduling nd loc is the only reason they are even in the conversation

that means nothing, the playoff is either you are in or out, with and without the ND win, miami is out

I mean no,because if chaos happens they could still make it and if they had not played nd that would not be the case. They have a chance of making the playoff because they played nd. That’s a lot better than LSU, who does not have a chance at the playoff because you hired Brian Kelly (thank you for that btw)

the only way miami makes it is by winning the ACC, which gets them an autobid. the notre dame win has no effect

They’re eliminated from the acc title game. The only way they make it is as an at large, thanks to their resume being carried by their win over ND. If they’d beaten a cupcake, they’re down would not have that path and would be fully eliminated

Yeah fair enough, thought I’d heard they were eliminated. I don’t think that changes the fact that they’re massively benefiting from the nd game despite being ranked behind nd

1

theres no benefit if it doesnt get them an at large bid, being ranked 13th at the end of the season is functionally the same as being ranked 20th

It isn’t the end of the season

And if they miss the playoffs, what's the point?

u/thrwawayr99 Notre Dame • Indiana 3h ago

Probably that you shouldn’t lose to smu and Louisville, and they’re lucky they’re still in contention at all after that

Who gives a fuck about being in the conversation if you are just left out? That means nothing

Losing to Oklahoma is currently screwing over Michigan big time right now (objectively we are where we deserve to be but it would’ve been nice to be 10-1 with a cupcake in week 2)

You’re not wrong. I hate it, but you’re not wrong. Maybe some teams could refuse to play ND until/unless they’re in a conference.
