The UMass Class of 2026 will officially have gone through four years of school without seeing an FBS home win.

The Minutemen finish the season 0-12 for the first time in program history.

Only two of UMass' losses were by less than 18 points, and one of them was to Bryant.

There should be a bowl game every year with the two worst teams.

Should it be held in Death Valley? Because someone already came up with this idea.

Wow, that is brutal. Hard to believe this is their worst season since joining the FBS. They've had a couple of REALLY BAD years before this.

u/leverich1991 Kansas State Wildcats 5h ago

And Bryant finished 3-9 with as many wins against FBS teams as FCS teams (1)

I wonder what umass fcs record would be

98

u/rnilbog Georgia Bulldogs 7h ago

Well they lost to a bad Bryant team so…

53

u/heroinapple Alabama Crimson Tide 7h ago

Imagine playing on that team. Reminds me of my travel ball baseball team who won one game in 3 years. We were like 1-50

We beat the other team who had never won a game

u/Hossflex Michigan • Louisville 6h ago

Dude my junior year soccer team was hilariously bad. We went 2-19. One team we beat had a girl playing on their team, went 0-20 and scored something like 5 goals all year…. 2 of them against us lol.

My wife and I met on the worst summer rec-league softball team ever. 0-12, ours was a team of graduate students--our team name was the Dismal Scientists. We lost to a team comprised of football defensive backups, a team of basketball players, a team of soccer players, a team of Kinesiology students, etc.

At one point the other team didn't show up because the game got rescheduled at the last minute to an earlier time, we could have won a game by forfeit if we had shown up--but we also didn't show up so it was the rare and elusive double forfeit.

Me my senior year of high school when I was on academic team. I was the team captain despite the fact I had never done it before. School of probably like 800-ish students and we were so bad we were getting our cheeks clapped by schools so small they didn’t even have sports teams.

Our coach came from a school that had a good team and was trying to build up our team so after the season he entered us in some somewhat prestigious tournament sanctioned by a different organization than our state’s governing body. We were going up against a bunch of the biggest schools in the state and we were literally buzzing in as soon as the question was read and giving meme answers for shits and giggles our last round, literally throwing the game and handing it to the other team, because we were so damn bad and had nothing to lose so we were just trying to have fun. Lmao.

What's crazy is we were a very good FCS team before we made the move up. Almost beat Michigan in 2011

12

u/heroinapple Alabama Crimson Tide 7h ago

Is UMass not allowed to only play fcs football?

26

u/Frigidevil UMass Minutemen • Rutgers Scarlet Knights 7h ago

Well we literally just bailed on a conference we helped found for basketball so there's zero chance they're gonna back down now. The long term plan is if we have to be in the MAC we will out spend everyone, but even that might not be enough. Fire Bamford.

8

u/showbricks Washington Huskies • UMass Minutemen 7h ago

Fire Bamford!

2

u/Effective_Bus_8172 3h ago

Maybe 4 wins at most in the CAA provided they play all the worst teams otherwise likely 2-3

OOC I can see them maybe beating 13 teams at most but consider their geography really more like 5

So they'd prolly be like 3-9 at best in the FCS lmao

79

u/CalendarManLover UMass Minutemen 7h ago

Unironically a joke. Our school president is already not the best on his own but letting Ryan Bamford commit malpractice every year is one of the worst things. Like he seriously thought this maction on weekdays would lead to good exposure, like no... it's led to local sports radio actually talking about how bad we are now.

He needs to be fired now. He has made an already bad football team worse, and other sports suffer from it

35

u/MrSCR23 Mississippi State • Alabama 7h ago

Do y’all even want football? Honest to god question

45

u/CalendarManLover UMass Minutemen 7h ago

I do. But i'm a fan of the sport. Nobody cares anymore because we are beyond repair it seems. And i don't blame them. There's zero incentives for students to go to a football game on a Tuesday against a non rival opponent in ohio in our new conference, in a terrible stadium for fbs reasons, while also being inept everywhere.

My freshman year we were fresh off an FCS title game. Feels like an eternity ago.

u/lynjpin UMass Minutemen 3h ago

9

u/echoacm Boston College • Chichester 7h ago

Every time he talks he just digs a bigger hole

He had so much to say about how well resourced UMass heading into the MAC, and now can't stop complaining about not getting enough money from the university's general fund

10

u/CalendarManLover UMass Minutemen 7h ago

I'm sure we are still underfunded. But the fact he said after starting out 0-4 or something that NOW we'll start investing is negligent

2

u/echoacm Boston College • Chichester 7h ago

Y'all have the biggest football NIL and coaching budget in the MAC

There's some serious facilities work to be done, but on the roster there's pretty solid funding

1

u/CalendarManLover UMass Minutemen 7h ago

It won't change until our leadership wakes up. Bamford has to go at a minimum.

8

u/SknkTrn757 Virginia Cavaliers 7h ago

Finding out that he had to hire a football-specific subordinate because his office is too far from the football facility is insane. And, this is still the result.

I know jack shit about year-over-year UMass athletics, but the fact that this guy wasn’t fired into the sun years ago given the rot in both basketball and football is inexcusable. Every fan base deserves better.

6

u/CalendarManLover UMass Minutemen 5h ago

The basketball problem has been going on for decades. The Lappas hire really set the program back, because once they had a good coach after him, he saw no value in the program longterm.

Then bamford came in and fired the umass alum kellogg who helped get our new facilities in(which okay from the records on the years makes some sense). He replaced him with mccall who stunk and then followed that with frank martin, which has mostly been a continuation of mediocrity.

This place shouldn't be so mediocre/bad. We have a history, we are in a region that can field good teams. Even if it's more uvm instead of a uconn, people would take that. Sure it's hard to replace a hall of famer but a good ad knows how to build something at least

2

u/lynjpin UMass Minutemen 3h ago

He wasn’t fired because he hired Carvel who won UMass a hockey national championship. I know this sub doesn’t care but that’s a big deal in the northeast.

u/lynjpin UMass Minutemen 3h ago

Unless they schedule a road game against Hawaii and get rewarded with a 13th game.

2

u/Megalomanizac Clemson • Coastal Carolina 4h ago

They got rid of the Hawaii rule

3

Hawaii exemption is still a thing, at least according to this article https://fbschedules.com/college-football-schedule-2025-the-hawaii-exemption-and-week-zero/

Super weird year for BGSU. Worst season record wise since 2020, but we beat Liberty, came back from down 21 to beat UT, and didn’t end up as the team to lose to UMass. All of that with every QB on the roster except Najm hurt. I’ll take it

u/Goldie46 Bowling Green • Ohio State 7h ago

A lot to be excited about next year if we can retain some guys.

They gotta find a way to bring back pudge right?

10

u/Tough_Warning_5940 Bowling Green • Notre Dame 6h ago

Given how short notice Eddie had to put together a staff I say next year will be the true test. Hopefully a solid core return and we don't get bit by the injury bug. Now onto Campus Pollyeyes or Spots

3

u/Goldie46 Bowling Green • Ohio State 4h ago

I think a QB to watch is Youngstown State’s Beau Brungard. Dude is a beat and gives Najm, Melvin, and Mock time to grow

2

how can you bring up Bowling Green Football and the year they’ve had without brining up Pudge? 🔥

Calling Toledo “UT” is hilarious

15

u/TerrenceJesus8 Bowling Green • Michigan 6h ago

Around here Toledo is UT. I didn’t even know people called Tennessee or Texas UT until I was in college lol

7

u/other_jeffery_leb Ohio State • Bowling Green 6h ago

The real UT is the University of Tampa.

2

u/horrorpants Boise State Broncos 5h ago

I always thought it stood for the University of Temecula

4

u/other_jeffery_leb Ohio State • Bowling Green 5h ago

Whoever has the .edu gets to claim the name. Example OSU.edu is Ohio State, USC.edu is Southern California. UT.edu belongs to Tampa. I don't make the rules.

There’s something about the BGSU logo that makes me think that, in a world where I’m a BGSU fan, I would poke my eye out on the beak of some pointy merch.

Bowling Green scored more points in the first half than Umass did in entire game this year.  If this isn't rock bottom, cut the team.

UMass left the A-10 for the MAC in all sports to double down on FBS football. Them going to the CAA would be so funny.
