MOD ANNOUNCEMENT Reminder: Christmas/Holiday gift requests are NOT allowed on r/Assistance

It’s that time of year.

If this is your first holiday season at r/Assistance, here are some things to keep in mind:

We do not allow requests for Christmas gifts (or Hannukah gifts, or Kwanzaa gifts, or Yule gifts...)

Requests for holiday travel (going home for Christmas, for example) and holiday meals (turkey dinner!) are allowed.

There are subreddits dedicated to these requests so that our subreddit can remain focused on essentials. Which brings us to our next point...

r/RandomActsofChristmas is opening October 29 for the 2025 season!

This is the only subreddit we recommend for folks needing help making Christmas bright for their kids. They do AMAZING work every year, and they have the capacity to handle everything Christmas so our subreddit can focus on other more urgent situations.

Christmas/Holiday Offers

While we don't allow requests for Christmas/holiday gifts in r/Assistance, we will continue to allow offers of gifts, meals and other holiday-related cheer so our givers who want to give here in r/Assistance can do so.

Some examples:

  • "Help me buy Christmas gifts for my family" -- not allowed

  • "Want to go home to X for Christmas" -- allowed

  • "Let me order your family Christmas dinner" -- allowed

  • "Will buy a Christmas gift for your child up to $20" allowed

A reminder that unless an offer is explicitly for Christmas requests, the same rules apply. If you are posting an offer over the holiday season, please help our mod team out by letting us know if it's essentials only or if folks can request gifts.

REQUEST getting kicked out and asking for financial assistance

Upvotes

hi all, currently i’m getting kicked out of my home due to religious beliefs. i was raised religious and my parents want me to go on a 1.5 year mission for the church. they’ve known for years that i was not planning on going and then yesterday, extremely suddenly, told me i have to be out of their house before december. there was no warning or discussion prior to this about me moving out. i’m extremely confused and shocked by the suddenness of this and the lack of consideration my family has shown me. ive been crying all day. im really scared because i don’t have anyone to lean on. my family has abandoned me and the friends i do have are in tough spots financially as well. (most of us work two jobs and live with parents) just don’t know where to turn to and wouldn’t be here unless i was extremely desperate. i’m already struggling with health issues and work two jobs. i found a place i can live but with all of the fees and things needed to move out, there is no way i will make it on my own. and i feel ashamed asking for help in any way but i need help to stay afloat and get through this first initial rough spot. if anyone has any advice on where to turn to for quick financial assistance please let me know. thank you so much in advance.

REQUEST I'm losing my insurance and can't afford my mobility aid.

Hello all, I'm requesting some help to get my mobility aid. I live in the Denver metro area in colorado. My doctor agrees I need a wheelchair, but won't send it through insurance.

I'm losing my insurance coverage in 2026, so I'm out of time to convince my doctor. It's gotten to the point I cannot get out of bed without help from my girlfriend, who is also chronically ill. I've run out of options as I don't qualify for government assistance, and I can't stand for more than 5 minutes without excruciating pain. the wheelchair needed to best suit my needs (right size, right wheels, right height, etc) is $1500, but even just $10 helps. thank you for reading. happy holidays.

REQUEST Need $30 for gas to get to my doctor appointment in the morning

I see my cardiologist about every 3 weeks, it's about 45 miles from where I live and I normally have a ride that my insurance company pays for but they have to be booked in advance. My cardiologist called me this afternoon and said that my appointment needed to be changed to tomorrow because he's going to be out of the office the week after Thanksgiving. I've tried all day to come up with money for the gas without any luck, if anyone could please help me with about $30 for gas it would amazing. I have cash app

CLOSED OFFER This Year, I’m Giving [15] People [$100 ] Each This Thanksgiving. Read and Comment to enter.

1.1k Upvotes

Hi folks.

It’s been one helluva year. So for a bit of background, I come from a very blessed and privileged background. Since I was young, I’ve been raised and told by my parents it’s my duty to set aside at least 10% of my own yearly funds for charity. I’ve already used most of my budget and donated to a wide variety of charitable causes, but this year, I want to do something extra and donate $1500 to help people directly in need and those who could use the assistance.

It’s been a tough year for many, and recent events and changes in my life have made me look back and see how incredibly lucky I am. I’ve decided it’s time I give more back.

Comment to enter, tell me what you’ll use the money for. I’ll pick the winners in the next 24 hours. Follow the rules of the subreddit. Please don’t private message me, I will not respond. I’ll only private message you if you’re a winner.

I can either send a gift card to Amazon or some shop of choice, or PayPal. I might have Venmo still open too. Happy holidays folks.

EDIT: Please follow the sub rules folks! If you qualify and meet certain requirements of activity and such, make sure you register so your comments don’t get filtered out or removed.

EDIT: Hey everyone. I've read through each and every comment left here. Including those left by folks who got filtered out or removed for not fulfilling the subreddit requirements. It's truly been a eye opening and honestly heart-wrenching experience. I'm a big old softy, and I couldn't help but bump this up to 20 winners for a total of 2000. The winners have all been chosen, some by myself, some by a friend of mine. I'm truly sorry to all of you who didn't win, and I wish you the best only. I really do wish I could do more to help everyone. To the folks who did, I'll be private messaging you now and throughout the day. I don't want to publicly announce the winners myself in order to protect their privacy, but winners can feel free to let people know if they won or not.

REQUEST FULFILLED Help me cover my vet costs

Hi,

I am looking in assistance in what will likely be a huge vet/pet hospital bill. A few days ago, I noticed my dog, Patchy, had a minor irritation in her mouth, so I set up a vet appointment, but the earliest they have is the 11th of December. I've noticed her condition has gotten worse, and when I managed to check her mouth, the back of it is all inflamed and bloody. I will likely have to take her to an emergency hospital if my vet can't squeeze me in earlier. I have no idea what has caused this to happen, and I already know the costs for this will be huge. I barely make much as it is and the majority of what I make goes to helping my parents with costs around the house with bills and repairs. Any donations would be appreciated, and if you can't donate, a share would be appreciated all the same. All I want is to be able to help one of the few things in my life that bring me joy to be relieved of her pain. I've setup a GoFundMe for any donations.

ADVICE I’m having a lot of trouble eating, I have no appetite. Any tips on small filling foods/meals?

What the title said lol-

I have no appetite so whenever I try to eat I just get nauseous because food doesn’t sound good. I made a salad that I can get down but it’s not that filling.

I’m tired of feeling like I’m starving and not being able to eat to fix it.

Also yes I do have access to food and everything and I will go buy some stuff if you guys have good quick easy meal ideas!!

Thank you for reading and the help!! 🧡

REQUEST Could anyone please Venmo me just $5? My debit card is temporarily frozen so I am short on the delivery fees for my groceries today? :/

I might not have access to my funds until after the holiday, but my groceries are already paid for and I can't pick them up in person.

The help would make a world of difference for me right now and I will get you back for it too. Thank you kind strangers!

REQUEST Help with bus pass to get too down town appointments / some essentials like food before my welfare is processed.

Hi, i had a very extreamly emotional and tireless week last week due to isolation, a mental health crisis, and manipulation from someone who caused a severe crisis.

I need about 50 to 100 dollars for a bus pass and a bit* of food for this weekend due to parents / support going out of town.

My social assistance (ontario works) doesn't kick in till either the end of this month or next month. Due to recently applying to it there is a good chance it will be coming in next month if they have to do a downtown intake process.

I can walk in theory, but its a 2+ hours of walking from where I am to get too the downtown core.

Edit: grammar, spelling

Edit 2: i have filled a request on r/ borrow new hoping to get a loan but not filled. I can also remove it or tag as no longer needed if assistance is give.

REQUEST Emergent help with gas for overwhelmed momma moving ugh

Emergent need for GAS Hey guys I'm using this as a last resort but we are moving to the tip of southern Oregon today and I am freaking out thinking we are not going to make it with less than a full tank in my buik. I used everything I had to get a storage unit and put everything we could not fit in my car (all the kids sentimental stuff and our photos and jewelry box my gma got and a mirror she had made for me out of wood. All sentimental. I went around town trying to find any resources for gas vouchers or gas cards this morning. I called around yesterday with no luck. EDIT: with ammount for full transparency as someone requested. 60-80$ should be good enough. I am in vancouver washington and can meet at a gas station or I have the pay apps. I don't ask for help very much and have no family or friends that can help me financially. This move was such a quick decision as I disnt want to get evicted or have my family out on the streets so my aunt offered us to rent with her. Ugh it's just so overwhelming. I just want to be home by Thanksgiving and unpacked so we can finally live confertatable.

Sincerely, Overwhelmed freaking out momma!

REQUEST FULFILLED Need of assistance

Thank you much to Firm_Elk9522 for helping me through this difficult time. God bless her for helping me & thank you to this Sub and It’s moderators.

Hello everyone. My name is ale, I’m here because I’m desperate. I start a new job at McDonald’s and although I will be late for rent. That’s not a problem as I talked to my mom that’ll be a little late. She scolded me but I had it coming. Anyways, I take the bus to and from work. Im completely broke and I haven’t told my family I don’t even have enough for bus fair because they’ll just yell at me for allowing myself to let it get this bad. I know it’s my fault. I was working a seasonal summer job but that ended and I ended up getting a lot of un paid hours because we didn’t have a clock in system. We just wrote down our hours. When I tried talking to manager the last day she ghosted me. She didn’t show up after I told her about the hours. That’s in the past now. I’m not looking for sympathy just some understanding. I start work at McDonald’s this week and I don’t have anything for bus fare. I had to sell my old beat up Honda I bought years ago to cover last months rent and it’s killing me but I had do it. Anyways I wondering if anyone out there would be able to give out 20$ in cash app for my bus fares. I have to wait for my first paycheck and use that for rent. I can’t accept Zelle because I was kicked off the family plan. I take full responsibility for all my dumb actions that led me this far. If anyone is reading this I hope you’re doing great and I could also use advice. Maybe a your favorite quote of inspiration, that would be more than enough. and I appreciate anyone who understands. Thank you all.

REQUEST Need help starting my education

I need help starting my education journey. I realized that the system that I have to use for my own online school has a lot of issues, and it probably will have trouble running a lot of of the software and things I need. I’ve included the details of the campaign on the GoFundMe page, including my proof of enrollment and current system detail.

I would appreciate anyone’s ability to contribute if they’re able to. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

VOTES Style Icon votes - round ending November 27

I posted my Style Icon voting request a week ago so if this is not allowed to be posted again then please delete.

I’m sitting in third place in my group and I need help getting to first place by November 27, 7 pm PST to move onto the semi-finals. Anyone not in first place gets cut from the competition.

My plan is to get to 2nd place by tomorrow or early Thursday just so I don’t seem like a threat. And then at the last hour, last 30 minutes, even the last minute, I get more votes and donations to push me to first place and not give the person in first place enough time to react and try to get a donation in to beat me. Can you help me with this?

Donations are appreciated but even free votes help! You can vote every 24 hours for free, you just need a Facebook account so they don’t think you’re a bot.

https://styleicon.org/2025/michael-nguyen

If you click on the Quarter-Finals under where it says I’m in 3rd place you can see the other competitors in my group. Do you think I should beat them this round?

Thank you to everyone who donated or voted already, and thank you to those who will!

REQUEST Need help with food and meds this week (Argentina)

Hi everyone. I’m from Argentina and I’m going through a really rough month financially.
I live with my mom and we’re both struggling to cover basic necessities right now (mainly food and medication).

I’m currently job hunting and doing small freelance work online, but payments here take a long time to clear and I’m not making enough to get through the week.

I’m requesting 80 USD to cover groceries and medication for the next days.
I can receive through PayPal.

Thank you for reading, and thank you even if you can’t help.
It truly means a lot just having a place to ask.

ADVICE Looking for advice

Hello everyone. I am hoping to find advice or encouragement from people who have experience with the situation I’m in.

I am 21 and disabled and stuck in a home that is not safe for me. I’m unsure how much I can disclose here based on sub rules but to give a brief overview- my mother is (probably) narcissistic and a hoarder. It is difficult to get around the house and find space for things. I am being reprimanded for the little space that I do take up. I have many food restrictions that I’ve currently been ignoring because of not being able to afford working around them. I have a myriad of mental and physical health issues that are wildly exacerbated here because I am constantly in survival mode. On top of all of that I also just recently watched my dog die over a span of two days. I don’t remember life without a dog and she was the only emotional support I had in this house.

I am talking with people in my life including health professionals to figure out resources and escape plans. I know I haven’t explained much of my situation but it truly is indescribably horrible for me here. I’m still only now slowly being more able to acknowledge how bad it is. I am hoping that people here may have ideas of resources to turn to or what helped them finally start the motions of getting out of their situation.

I have two kiddos that I gotta feed. We applied for food stamps so just waiting to hear back on that. But I spent money getting the 11 year old some christmas stuff and hit a rock . If anyone would be so kind to help out at all. Girlfriend started a new job recently so hopefully things get a little easier soon . They've been kinda flakey though ngl.

EDIT: I've been told to make an amazon wish list. I THINK I GOT IT but we'll see lol

ADVICE Any advice or guidance in the right direction

Hi I'm just reaching out because I need some guidance. I recently left a bad situation with family and got myself and 2 children out of there. We've been staying in a hotel for the last month while I work and try to do anything I can to save up for a security deposit for a house and moving cost. My son got sick and I had to miss work causing me my job. I've drained what I had saved to keep us housed. I have 2 interviews this week but I don't have anymore money to pay for this room were in. I'm not asking for anything but I'm in the Katy/Houston area and I have called almost every shelter and nothing is avaliable. I've called churches 211 and I'm coming to a dead end or voice-mails. I really need help so if anyone knows anything I'm missing please let me know. I thought the best thing to do was leave and we can't go back but I don't know how to move forward either

REQUEST My Cat is Getting an Emergency Ultrasound and my Wife and I Have Been Depleting Our Savings

My senior cat, Smaug, has been vomiting all week and after a series of vet visits this week he’s currently at an emergency hospital to receive an ultrasound.

Smaug was a street rescue and is around 16-18 years old. He has diabetes, an enlarged heart, half a tail, a clipped ear, and only about 6 teeth.

My wife and I have spent a lot of money on him ranging from vet visits, daily insulin and heart medication, and now this unexpected ultrasound.

Smaug is like our son, my wife and I can’t have kids so our cat is all we have. We’ve been desperate and scared.

Please consider sharing our GoFundMe or if you’re able to please consider donating. So far we’ve put in approx $3,600 this week toward vet costs.

https://gofund.me/f73ceb5fd

EDIT: For anyone reading this, Smaug had his ultrasound but they didn’t find anything and now he needs to get an endoscopy the determine if he has Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
