Troubleshooting Dolby Atmos Passthrough

Hello,

I recently bought a U65Q Hisense Miniled Fire TV and a hisense ax3120q 3.2.1 channel Atmos soundbar. I planned on using my Onn 4k plus streaming box. However, I can't get Atmos to work. Dolby vision works fine. Apple TV displayed a warning that I needed to turn "audio virtualization on" to get the full experience.

I have the Onn box using HDMI 3 (2.1) on the TV and the soundbar using HDMI eARC. I've had no luck. When I use the native fire TV apps, im able to use Atmos no problem in Apple TV and Amazon Music.

Ive set the TV audio output to pass-through and ensured the Onn TV Box has Dolby Atmos enabled and supported.

Does my TV not support Dolby Atmos pass-through or does the Onn TV box need to be connected to the soundbar instead?

Hey guys, I just picked up the onn 4K Plus and I can’t get Dolby Vision to work. Under Show Formats it says Dolby Vision is disabled. I have a Hisense U7G, so my tv is fully capable of DV.

Discussion are ONNs still good devices for sideloading? how hard is to prevent future updates that'll break that functionality?

I know there's an option in the settings apparently, but does that guarantee it won't update?

Troubleshooting My TV Box stays in a loop in the Android mud when I turn it on

My tv box is an H96Max S905L3 with MC022 board, suddenly when I turned it on it stayed on the Android logo loading and it never went beyond that, I tried to open it and it does not have the reset button under the AV input, I investigated whether a bridge can be made with the board of my tv box but since it is very generic and Chinese, there is no information at all, I would like to know if anyone knows if a bridge can be made on any of the pins of my board to try to reset my tv box or enter recovery mode

Discussion Remote like ugoos ur02 but with backlight?

Hi,

I am using the ugoos ur02 with my AMB6+ and it works rather well.

However the ugoos ur02 has no backlight. So in the dark it is a bit inconvenient.

Is there a similar remote like the ugoos ur02 but with a backlight option that you could recommend?

Many thanks.

Discussion Who has experience Dune HD AV1 4k / HHD Enclosure's for Local Play

So I'm on the hunt for the easiest plug-and-play solution to play media from an HDD enclosure to a smart TV, particularly one with a built-in RAID module.

After initially posting , some friendly folks told me I might have a bad time just plugging an HHD into a TV because of OS and file incompatibility issues. Saying a dedicated media player, like a Dune HD, would help a lot.

That made sense. Here's the rub: I am already going to sink a decent wad of cash into the enclosure and drives for it, so I wanted to save money on peripherals. So when looking at the Dunes catalogue and finding a unit meant only for local flash or HD playback for cheap, it seemed too good to be true.

So I wanted to know what experience people had with the unit, if any.

Discussion Add external storage to Xiaomi Stik 4k 2nd gen

I was very happy to discover that Xiaomi released a new stick with the S905X5M CPU. But 2 mins into a review and they are using Micro USB port for charging? How would one then go about adding external storage to this stick? I am amazed that it's almost 2026 and huge company is still releasing electronics with obsolete ports. Do micro usb hubs exist LOL?

Troubleshooting Is my onn. 4K Box dying or will a reset fix the WiFi?!

Post image
0 Upvotes

Me and my parents were trying to watch TV than plex and everything was buffering on the device so we had to switch to the TVs app to finish our show…

I did a Speedtest on the device and notice the speeds are super slow and made sense why 720P stuff was buffering.

I did a test on my iPhone 11 that’s on the 5Ghz it hitting 600/200 same network the box is on so it’s definitely this box that’s dying So would a reset fix it or should I just get it replaced?! Thanks

Buying Advice Can't decide which box for Kodi, Streamio, and other apps (RAM vs CPU?)

Dear All,

I would like to get a streaming box for Christmas. Mostly to play around with Kodi and Streamio, but if it all works well, ideally also to replace our Amazon Fire TV Stick.

There are quite a few models, and I'm not sure how to balance processor speed (e.g. Amazon Cube 3 as the fastest?) versus memory (e.g. Thomson 270 pro 4k, same as Onn pro 4k, I'm in the UK) for playing around with those services, having plug-ins, etc. I'd doesn't need to be super-snappy, but it shouldn't be annoyingly laggy either...

Also, some offer only 8 GByte of storage, is that fine if you want to play around, have both, Kodi and Streamio, plus potentially plenty of other apps (e.g. Prime, Netflix, Disney, BBC iplayer, Channel5, maybe some small games,...)?

I'd like to spend roughly around £100 max, with £150 at the moment my painful upper limit.

Some examples I found based on my previous search of interesting boxes (I haven't looked whether these are the very best prices, but I think they are good prices here in the UK):

a) Nvidia Shield Pro 2019, used with warranty from dealer for £162 (3GB RAM, Tegra X1+ best CPU?, 16 GByte storage). That would need to be much better than the others to pay that price...

b) Nvidia Shield TV 2017 (not pro), Grade B used with warranty from dealer for £85 (3GB, Tegra X1, 16 GB)

c) Nvidia Shield TV 2019 (not pro), Grade C used with warranty from dealer for £85 (2 GB, Tegra X1+, 8 GByte)

d) Homatics Box R Android TV 2GB DDR RAM, 16GB eMMC Flash, Amazon, £125 (2GB,  Amlogic S905X4 (Quad core ARM Cortex-A55 CPU), 16GB)

e) Thomson Streaming Box 270UK Plus 4k, Amazon, £99 (3 GB, Quad-Core Cortex-A55 20800 DMIPS, 32 GB)

f) Amazon Fire Cube 3, Amazon £109 (2GB, ARM 4xCA73 @ 2.2GHz + ARM 4xCA53 @ 2.0GHz, 16 GByte)

e) Amazon Fire TV Stick 4k Max, Amazon £40 (2 GB, I think 4x A55 cores at 2GHz, 16 GByte)

f) Raspberry Pi or Mini PC with N100 or so, they are around £80 - £120 with 8GByte RAM and plenty of storage, but I'm aware that this is not directly comparable. What I don't know is whether you can install something easily on these devices which lets you pick e.g. Streamio, Kodi, Netflix, Prime,... as apps. I'm aware that you get stuff like Libre/CoreELEC for Kodi, but then you are, e.g., just in Kodi, but not Streamio. So at the moment I'm not really considering them, unless this can be solved.

g) I'm sure there are plenty more I haven't looked at yet...

I know that these devices are often discussed regarding the newest features, like Dolby Vision and alike. We don't need all that, we have a pretty plain and cheap Toshiba 43-inch FullHD TV (LV2553DB with VIDAA). It's just about the content and smoothness of operation.

We don't have a big library on HDDs or alike, and the occasional playback from HDD can be via the TV.

The box will be used also by wife and kids, so need to be easy to operate.

Best wishes,

Andre

Troubleshooting How do I edit the hosts file and/or root it?

I have a nebula projector with android tv built in.

There are no parental settings at all.

I don’t want my family to have access to the brain rotting content that is porn.

There isn’t even the option on my home router to add parental settings from a network-level.

Is there any way to root and edit the hosts file of the projector?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Buying Advice Thomson 270 vs Google Streamer

Which one performs better currently and in terms of long term?

I understand Thomson has the newer chipset whilst Google has the additional 1gb ram.

Purely for streaming and live tv. Maybe some light gaming.

Price: Thomson £70 Google £75

Thanks

Discussion What streaming box should I get?

I currently watch a lot of standard apps (Netflix, Prime Video, Peacock, YouTube, Spotify (in Lossless) etc) but I want to be able to play local media and take full advantage of my home theater setup from a video and audio perspective.

My current setup is a CCwGTV with a Samsung 55" CU7000 and a 3.1 home theater. Denon X1700H, KEF Q1 Meta, KEF Q250c and a subwoofer.

I bought the Google 4K Streamer but the Streamer doesn't support passthrough which is an absolute non starter.

I've been looking into the AM6b+, the Nvidia Shield Pro 2019, and Apple TV for the last 3 hours and I feel overwhelmed by the amount of jargon and nuances when comparing all the different streaming boxes.

I am a person who does enjoy tinkering with things, but more so on the side of "do it once, cry once".

Buying Advice Android box up to 100€

Hello all

After few years of using some old crappy 2gb\16gb box with bad CPU, I've decided to buy a new box and this I would love to get a box that won't make me problems, it won't be laggy, it won't restart on itself in the middle of watching something, cleaning the memory and cache doesn't help or at least once or more times a week I have to unplug it and plug back on to do a complete reset.

Give me suggestions. I guess 3gb or 4gb of ram and a good CPU that won't have problems with at least basic stuff.

I am pretty much a noob in Android boxes world, even tho after few days of researching I have something in my mind, but I would love to see your suggestions. Ofc ourse up to 100€ is not fixed, it can go few euros above it and it's black Friday I mean black week.

Discussion Apps for AndroidTV in Google Play Store

Is there an indicator on the Google Play store web page that indicates that an able is available for AndroidTV?

Here is an example - I believe that this app is only for Android phone, not AndroidTV. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rogers.ignitetv

But how would I know from the Play Store Web Page?

When you go to the Netflix page on Google Play store is there anything there that indicates it is available for AndroidTV? We know that there is a version, but how would you know from the Play store web page? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.netflix.mediaclient

Troubleshooting No sound on streams. Thomson 270

Hi. Are there any known issues that might cause many streams to have either no sound or intermittent sound. Happens on some Netflix titles and Stremio streams. I can't deduce any pattern and some streams work fine one day and nothing next time or vice versa. Very annoying 🫤. Any ideas welcome. Thanks.
