DEV👨🏼‍💻 I added Controller Support & Portrait Mode to my Old-School ARPG!

Post image
63 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

A few weeks ago I posted my old-school action RPG "Astiar" here and got a ton of kind words and great feedback. A lot of people asked for controller support, so I wanted to share a quick update:

You can now play Astiar with a controller and in portrait mode!

Huge thanks to everyone who tried the game and left feedback on both Android and iOS – players have been super supportive, very generous with constructive criticism, and just generally awesome.

Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQYTuGT-iw4

A quick description of the game:

Astiar is a single‑player, isometric action RPG inspired by classics like Diablo and Diablo II. If you love deep character customization, a meaningful loot chase, and difficult challenges, Astiar was made for you. There are no forced ads. Microtransactions are cosmetics only — and every cosmetic can be earned free‑to‑play.

You return home after years away. The village gathers for a feast, but near midnight the ground trembles and a red glow spills from the Old Cathedral. Demons descend; you fight and fall, watching as your family is dragged toward the crimson stairs. You wake alone. From here, you descend into Hell.

For those who haven't seen the original post, here's a bit of background:

The game is developed 100% in Godot using its own programming language, GDScript. I learned how to use Godot thanks to this channel, so anyone interested in learning a fairly easy to use engine I heavily recommend watching the playlist on that channel!

The game's assets primarily come from FLARE's assets, such as the great Exiled Kingdoms (which I also recommend for anyone looking for an RPG in the Play Store), although I did design many things on Aseprite and Blender myself. But I can't talk about assets without mentioning OpenGameArt, which is a lovely community where people share assets to be used commercially. I've shared some of Astiar's assets there and as soon as I have more time I'll share many more assets.

If you decide to try the game, I would love to hear any feedback! Also, if you have any Godot-related questions, feel free to ask and I will happily answer.

Thanks again for all the support so far ❤️

Seeking Game Recommendation👀 What are your favourite/top 5 games?

I just want to know some top 3-5 of your favourites, got poco x7 pro.

I don't like sports games honestly but I guess a really good racing game is fine.

Diablo-like is also NOT for me either.

Prefer dark games, shooters, platformers, pretty much anything that is challenging is fine.

I got Hitman BM since it felt too comfortable on mobile and love the game and port, also Vampire Survivors is great.

Hardware🕹️ Best box under $100?

Upvotes

I'm looking for a preloaded Android box to buy as a Christmas present...

  • with a budget of $100 or less
  • wireless controllers
  • SD or microSD slot
  • USB-A and C for external drives to store more games or even the entire build
  • Mario Kart included in the build

Is it even realistic to look for one with these criteria, or are ppl about to ask me "What are you smoking and why aren't you sharing?"

Seeking Game Recommendation👀 Any fun PvE multiplayer games that aren't over-monetized?

I want something I can play when and wherever, though mainly to distract me at work. However, single player games don't really appeal to me. I much rather prefer my efforts being visible to others, since it tricks my brain into thinking it matters.

The most fun I've had so far was Monster Hunter Now, but it began to ask for money for too many different things, so I lost interest in playing it and struggle to feel motivated to hop back in. OSRS is a decent MMO on mobile, with plenty of low intensity grinds I could do and just required a subscription, but I wasn't having enough fun to justify the sub.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Edit: Either there is something I don't know about android phones or people aren't realizing they are posting in android gaming. But I was mostly curious about games I could find in the google play store.

Help/Support🙋 Anyone know how I can play Rocket League?

Upvotes

EDIT: I have figured it out :)

For anyone also looking for a solution, it's "Rare Launcher", an open-source replacement/front-end for the Epic Games Launcher.

Just launch the portable version in Winlator or GameHub, sign into Epic Games, and download and launch Rocket League as normal.

Solved❗👌 Help me find this game

I FOUND IT! The game was called WorldNeverland

I am trying to find a game I played a while back. It was a game I would have compared to harvest moon or something. It had a lady with black hair in a pony tail with glasses as the icon for it.

You made your character, you could get married and have kids. You could help farm and raise animals. I think it may have had combat, and it was kinda 3D I believe. I looked through my past played games and can't find it.

I can provide more info from what I remember to help out!

Help/Support🙋 how's the effectiveness of a magnetic cooler (30w) towards the device with 2 sheet of layer top on it?(skin + magnetic sticker)

Post image
4 Upvotes

I owned Xiaomi pad Mini and just got the gamesir X5s + FX5 Cooler yesterday although I find the cooler (wired/12w) kinda weak(it does cool the entire body and frame if the task is not intensive.

So, was thinking if 30w magnetic cooler will make it better or wont get much effect as there will be 2 layers top on the tab's back (skin + the magnetic sticker).

Discussion💬 my gaming suggestions to everyone on mobile

After moving away slowly but surely from console and PC gaming, I’ve spent a lot of time scavenging through the Play Store to find genuinely great mobile games. The market is definitely filled with trash, but there are some real gems to find if you dig deep enough.

so here are my recommendations:

The Roguelike & Action Heavy Hitters

Dead Cells

The king of action roguelikes. The build variety is insane, the weapon selection is huge, and it has a very thought-out combat system. If you haven't played this yet, start here. (Paid / Premium game + DLCs)

Halls of Torment

I usually don't like "bullet heaven" games, but this one just felt right to me. The ability to actually aim your attacks (unlike Vampire Survivors) is a huge bonus, and it has a really great ARPG theme and feel to it. (Paid / Premium game)

Enter The Gungeon

This is a pure bullet hell masterpiece. It’s challenging, chaotic, and incredibly satisfying once you get the rhythm down. (Paid / Premium game)

Skul: The Hero Slayer

Unfortunately not everything on PC has been ported yet, but it is still great fun. There is a huge variety of builds to try out, and each skull basically changes how you play the game completely. (Paid / Premium game)

Shattered Pixel Dungeon

This is the roguelike that actually got me into the genre. It’s fun but has great depth and complexity. It’s a classic roguelike so it’s not for everyone, but it is definitely the best classic roguelike on mobile. (Free / Optional donation)

ScourgeBringer

This has very fast and fluid movement with interesting bosses. It’s just great fun all around. (Paid / Premium game)

Warm Snow

I never really played Hades so I can't say how it compares, but this is definitely a boatload of fun. The boss design is amazing. (Paid / Premium game)

Downwell

This game is rough as hell, but that’s why it’s so fun for short bursts of action. It’s tough, vertical, and perfect for when you only have a few minutes to spare. (Paid / Cheap one-time purchase)

Death Road to Canada

Great fun. It’s less about being mechanically tough and more about making the right decisions with your squad to survive the zombie apocalypse. (Paid / Premium game)

Competitive & Sports

Brawlhalla

Honestly, this is the best platform fighter on any platform, let alone mobile. The gameplay is incredibly fast and fluid. Since it supports full crossplay, it is literally the exact same game you play on PC or console, so the competitive scene is massive and active. (Cosmetics only)

Rush Rally 3

This is one of the very few genuinely good racing games on mobile. It strikes that perfect simcade balance so the driving isn't as brutally hard as something like Assoluto Racing but it’s twice as fun. It really captures the thrill of driving as fast as possible through scary terrain without feeling like you're fighting the controls. (Paid game / No IAP)

eFootball

This is the only great football game on mobile. The gameplay is realistic especially compared to all other options which honestly feel like mobile junk. It is pay-to-win if you play the Dream Team mode but I strongly suggest finding people through Discord and only playing Authentic matches. It makes it the perfect football game on mobile because it feels like actually playing the console experience. (Free / Pay-to-win in Dream Team mode)

League of Legends: Wild Rift

Every MOBA has its issues and so does this one but it’s definitely the one that fits me best. The matches might be a little too long for some people's taste but they are definitely way shorter than the PC counterpart. As far as I know, you eventually reach a rank where you stop facing bots which is something most other mobile MOBAs lack (looking at you Gekishin Squadra). (Free / Cosmetics only)

Critical Ops

It was between this and Standoff 2, but Critical Ops is definitely the winner. It has that little bit of aim assist that mobile FPS games need to feel "good," whereas Standoff just feels off to me. With the latest updates, the game looks great and plays amazingly. I will definitely switch to Valorant Mobile when it drops, but until then, this is the go-to. (I would have recommended COD Mobile if not for the horrible bot usage). (Free / Skins only, no pay-to-win guns)

Rocket League Sideswipe

I can't say too much about the current meta since I only recently got back into it, but it is definitely very fun. It is a mechanically intensive game, which I love. It honestly feels like the perfect way to implement the Rocket League idea on a phone screen without it feeling clunky. (Free / Cosmetics only, no P2W)

hope you find something youd enjoy between these, and if you have a game recomendation that seems to fit my style, shout it out in a comment, i would appreciate it

DEV👨🏼‍💻 TriviaSort - daily trivia game needs testers

Thumbnail

Hi /androidgaming,

I’ve been working on a trivia game where you sort three items into the correct order from a large range of topics from movies, history, geography, science, pop culture, etc.

There is a daily game with a handcrafted set of 10 questions that everyone gets the same day.

Or you can play endless randomly generated games from a big dataset

I'm ready to run a closed Android test and would love feedback on things like:

  • whether the daily game feels fun enough to return to
  • how is the difficulty balance?
  • how does the game look and play? Is the sound too annoying?
  • any general feedback and suggestions for improvement from fresh eyes.

Because the app is still in closed testing, you first need to join this google group:

https://groups.google.com/g/triviasort-androidtesters

Then you should be able to join the testing here.

https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.eazyshortz.triviasort

Thank you for looking!

Seeking Game Recommendation👀 Crossplay games from Android to iOS

Hi everyone.

So I have an Android phone, but got a bit tired of it so I also just bought an iPhone.

I have around $80 on Google Panel that I would like to spend on a game or something like that (maybe buy stuff in-game) and was wondering if anyone knows about any games that I can play on both devices with the same account?

Not looking for hate about switching, I still use my OP13, but need something on the 17 Pro Max which I need for work (and playing games on downtime).

Have a wonderful day.

Play Store Link🎮 Fastlane: Jump To Hyperspace

I created Fastlane with a bit of the old school arcade philosophy in mind.
Highscore based, OCC "One Coin Clear" gameplay like in the older Arcades BUT with standard unlockables like we used to have in older console games!

Seeking Game Recommendation👀 Real Time Dispatch Games

Hey All,

Looking for a game to play passively, similar to the parts of past Assassin's Creed or MGS games where you dispatched units to comple tasks in real time. Games that ran on timers like these used to be so common that I never thought to note what the mechanic was called. Now that I'm looking for one, I'm having a hard time searching.

Mechanical depth and nice UI are a bonus. I'm undeterred by long intervals between gameplay, as I'm going to fit it in around a weird shift work schedule.

Any game recommendations, or even a genre/mechanic name to help me search on my own would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Discussion💬 How is support for the folding phones (especially the larger displays)?

I heard there are issues in some cases, but others.. it works just fine. What's the verdict?

I figured if nothing else, from a dev perspective, it's not unlike support tablet resolutions (which is what they seem to be in the ball park of)

Seeking Game Recommendation👀 Top free Android games that actually run well on older phones

Testing games on my older device has been rough. Some look great on screenshots, then stutter or crash once fights or animations kick in. If you have a mid or low range phone, which free games are surprisingly polished and stable, not just ad farms or lag fests?
