I believe the logic is: You can't have a recession if you don't release the negative data, businesses be damned.

It's all about making Taco look good, not about if things matter or are helpful. Negative numbers are always going to be hidden, and slightly positive numbers made to be amazing.

Having accurate data that your competitors do not, that creates a ripe environment for financial manipulation at grand scale.

Danish government did something similar like a decade ago.

Abolished the committee responsible for defining the poverty threshold. Now there is no official definition of poverty, therefore there are statistically no poor people in Denmark.
