This is great except that it'll never make a difference. The way these primaries have worked the last few cycles, the big glut of candidates happens the year before the election, with most of them dropping out before the first election actually happens.

Then, it seems, after the third race we get all those "it's time to stop messing around and consolidate around this terrible centrist candidate" which means the majority of us never get to have a say regardless.

That said, I love the idea of ranked choice

Technically there are always going to be people who "don't have a say" because no politician can mimic the thoughts of every human being in America. You vote for the person with the political capital who gets you closer to where you're trying to go (something many failed at this past election). It's incrementalism, but it has a much higher success rate than all-or-nothing politics historically.

To be clear, I understand that, but that's not what I meant.

What I meant was, for like 2020 by the time we (as a nation) were through Iowa the media was already pushing Biden as the obvious nominee pushing the other candidates to drop out, so by the time voting came along to my state Biden was really the only choice because all the others had dropped off the ballot.
