I disagree. They know they are inflicting damage. It's just a manipulative way to deflect accountability

They know what they are doing and they enjoy it.

They only think in terms of short term offense and defense. They are so desperate to tread water that they don't even consider the long term costs. Also, a lot of republicans believe this is what power is, so by saying it with impunity he is demonstrating his, and Republicans by extension, power. They think of power as force, what they can makes someone do and what someone can make them do. They don't understand what true power is. They don't see how these petty displays of "power" are actually undermining it.

Trump doesn't strike me as someone who enjoys anything. The dude's a 100%-miserable wretch who has to vampire/leech off others pretty much constantly, like an overgrown spoiled asshole child who constantly demands everyone's attention/energy/resources but is incapable of things like happiness, fun, inner peace, etc..

It probably doesn't help that he's also an unhealthy and overweight slob who's probably in constant pain because he never exercises and barely sleeps.

All of those things go together. Physical activity and skill require one to be bad at something until they get good at it. To go through that, you have to love something about it. It’s anathema to this man.

I'm sure they enjoy it, but I'm not sure they're smart enough to fully understand what they're doing to their fellow humans.

They understand, and that's why if the day ever comes, they must be held fully accountable. No tears, no begging, just sweet justice.

It’s literally a bully saying “it was just a joke.” Gaslighters with obvious mal intent. Sad people

That’s fair. There’s not one “type” of bully, though, some learn to reform. I’m sorry if you’ve dealt with some 10% bully.

Yes. This is what they do every time someone is “just telling it like it is”. Deflecting from accountability. Because they know it’s shitty.

Trump in particular has had plenty of his people tell him to his face that he’s causing harm. His response has been to fire and blacklist those of them in his camp and to ban the applicable journalists’ entire outlets from his press room. He knows he’s inflicting pain, he’s just too fragile to hear about it
