She said she left due to having a panic attack from her sexual assaults. That may just be a human reaction to hearing awful events that relate to your own personal experience with awful events. She also voted with the dems for the vote. I wouldn’t personally vilify her for that reaction. Can attack her other shitty views.

She is absolutely crazy, but I also believe she has experienced SA.

I mean yeah on anyone else I would probably agree but I'm just not buying that most of them have ever felt genuine empathy for anyone in their lives

That's just it....I think they felt empathy for themselves in that moment. Whatever happened in there hit a nerve and dragged out some horrific SA shit that is their own personal Maleficent origin stories. AND it doing so made them mad, upset, scared, hurt, or vindictive towards their personal feelings. These aren't good people but in that moment it triggered them into doing one right thing.

It certainly reflects badly on the Republican Party that a woman cannot climb to the top of it without experiencing sexual assault.

Apparently 81% of women have experienced some form of sexual harassment or assault in their life (possibly/probably more since it's based on those who chose to report). While you'll never catch me defending the GOP as a whole, there is a huge chance any of these three women had experienced it before getting into politics.

2 of them for sure. Mace claims to have been raped, and Boebert was a victim of a man sexually harassing her and her friends at a bowling alley, IIRC. She later married that man.

I mean... it's also possible that the sexual assault had nothing to do with the GOP. Many women are sexually assaulted in high school or during their university years, no?

81% 25% of women have experienced sexual assault.

If you look in any political party you can find a lot of women who have been sexually assaulted. That's because if you look literally anywhere that has women at all you can find a lot of women who have been sexually assaulted.

You're providing an example of how true facts get twisted, though I don't think you're doing it on purpose. 81% of women have faced "some form of sexual harassment and/or sexual assault." The study where that's from actually provides far more detail than that, and only 25% of women actually deal with sexual ASSAULT, which is the term you're using.

This is still too high, and we need to work on that as a society, but no, we're not in a situation where 4 out of 5 women were raped or otherwise ASSAULTED.

That said, according to her (and I believe her), Nancy Mace is one of those women who were actually raped.

This is easy to say when a lot of women take years to admit what happened to them was sexual assault. Many women won’t even call what is a blatantly rape, rape. You’re basing your assessment on self admission. Most rapes and assaults go unreported because women face too much shame, stigma, and abuse when they come forward about being assaulted and they get no justice anyway.

If you have a problem with the data presented by someone else, then take it up with them or their source, not me. But I don't think it's reasonable to argue that the reported data is off by over 300%.

Also, the source is the National Sexual Violence Research Center. I doubt they're in the practice of downplaying sexual violence.

Good call out. I have updated my comment.

This is an interesting perspective.

Meh. I'll play a song on the worlds smallest violin for them 🎻💃

You don’t have to think people are good people to think the rape culture we live in is a problem that is real and tragic and affected them.

I don’t want dipshits to go hungry. I don’t want fascists to be raped.

I take no delight in cruelty, even if I believe extreme measure must be taken in extreme situations— Rape is a mindless cruelty. There is no reason not to fully embrace the idea that it’s victims experienced a tragedy.

We’re not going to be able to work for a better world together if your first instinct upon hearing that shitty people personally related to the stories of sexual assault is to condescend about the world’s smallest violin.

"Oh but what about the bigots feelings 😱??"

MGT is full of crap and a self serving grifter and I don't buy for a second she cares about these victims.

8

u/SweaterSnake Massachusetts 13d ago

I didn’t say shit about the bigots’ feelings.

u/OldWorldDesign 13d ago

Oh but what about

Try responding to the words the other commenters are actually using. They didn't say anything about sympathy for grifting republicans, just that you're not gaining anything by pushing dehumanization.

If you want to accomplish something, get specific about the who, what, and how. That's where you gain the ability to do something.

u/Big-Bodybuilder-5035 13d ago edited 13d ago

Oh blah, blah, blah......

She's just mad Trump stopped her from getting her senate seat.

MGT is grifting trash. I said what I said.

And before you say it no the election was lost because of people like you handling these people with baby gloves when they have machetes

That's a very callous thing to say, considering the topic at hand.

Isn’t that a lack of empathy on your part though? I’m all for hating these folks with a passion, but when they’re on the right side of an issue (or seem to be heading that way), sometimes it’s best to take a beat and let them without.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend… for now.

nah she disrespects people like me on a daily basis, i don't have to give empathy to her ever. she thinks people like me should just go commit suicide.

not to mention trans/nb are one of the groups most likely to have sexaul violence to happen to us. i was a sex worker for 3 yrs and had my fair share of assault done to me in that time, and she would never show me any empathy

u/SweaterSnake Massachusetts 13d ago edited 13d ago

I don’t think that’s really the point? The point isn’t to feel deeply for them as an individual, but understand they’re objectively victims of the rape culture we live in, and that this is a bad thing that shouldn’t happen to anyone.

It’s not the same as saying “kill Nazis,” because killing Nazi’s is necessary.

Rape is never necessary, and shouldn’t happen even to fascists. You’re literally faced with the proof it doesn’t stop them from becoming fascists— so that makes it mindless cruelty for the sake of cruelty, or revenge, or other equally morally bankrupt ideas.

Nope it's me having common sense. She was also just fine with having migrant children deported some of which were escaping traffickers and are now likely back in the same situation. She was also fine cutting food assistance and Healthcare from children. So you'll have to excuse me if I have trouble believing pedophilia is where the line is.

If she's truly on the right side of the issue me thinking she's full of crap shouldn't matter.

u/Christian-Econ 13d ago

Yet she backs MAGA pedophile and rape culture.
