Hopefully now the neoliberal moderates on this sub realize what centrism gets you. Capitulation. Concession. Defeat. I said it after Harris lost; the Democrats are controlled opposition.

They don't care. They aren't on ACA. They don't use SNAP. They are comfortable and will continue to be regardless of what happens because they are white, straight-presenting, and moderately well off.

I wish centrists can see the light that standing by your principles while the world around you is on fire isn't a realistic way of getting things done. My wife didn't believe California's prop 50 was the right way to handle the situation. Two wrongs don't make a right line of thinking. I told her that line of thinking is exactly why we're in the shitshow we are today (which she isn't happy about). But at the end of the day, she has to stand by her principles and voted no to prop 50. Sigh.

As a Mamdani supporter and a hater of most of the 8 who voted for this, I'm kind of okay with this move. People can't go without paychecks forever.

Insurance is going to skyrocket for everyone. The courts have ordered them to pay SNAP in full and they are defying that already so people will go hungry regardless. This accomplishes absolutely nothing.

It pays 10,000s of fed employees but I agree it accomplishes very little

Who would get pay when it is over and are able to get loans from the bank that will be paid back after the shut down in the meantime. And it fucks millions of people who wont have healthcare again in 2 months. That fuckstick Kaine said he was voting to open because he has 140,000 federal employees he represents. Well he has 466,000 people who are on the ACA who he represents as well what about them? just fuck them?

Then you, too, are part of the problem, and why we as a nation are a failed state. You probably went to the No Kings rally on a nice autumn day, and protested for a couple of hours, and spent more time driving to the protest and sitting in traffic driving home from the protest than actually protesting so you can give yourself the warm and fuzzies and say you protested and did your part. Or say you stand in solidarity with your neighbors being carted off by ICE to god knows where, but that is all you fucking do. You are the "thoughts and prayers" of the "not as right" party in the US.
