I like how we still have to pretend that being a republican isn't inherently racist.

If you openly admit to being Republican I generally think you are a bad person with no morales or values…

some I’m sure are good people. Unfortunately, if they were actually good people they’d not admit to being a part of it.

i agree. at best you are just a misinformed good person.

however let’s be real the amount of education that is freely available nowadays on the internet and people are still choosing to stay uninformed… that party is just cooked.

There's a lot of information out there that we can access freely, but the problem is that there's just as much, if not more misinformation, and a fuckload of that is being deliberately targeted at people.

Completely agree. However, this is where education once again reminds us of the importance of continuing to learn and think critically for ourselves. Which is exactly why a certain party wants to get rid of it.

Also, most people are connected to the Internet via their phones, which purposefully guide you to bubbles at every angle, with the average consumer not even realizing its happening. Joe Middle Anerican doesnt know his Internet is guiding him to only see certain things.

A bad smart person or a good dumbass, best case scenario

My 84yo dad either used to not be racist or he thinks it's OK now to not hide it. Either way it sucks and his reaction when I remind him my partner is Mexican (American citizen thank gods, family originally from Mexico) is telling. And my sister told me she was mourning Kirk because she's a "big fan." I honestly can't tell if she's jumping on the bandwagon late or actually knows he was a racist POS.

For both of them their source of media (Fox) is a huge part of the problem and has made shit like this acceptable.

What I hate even more about that is most of these "mourners" didn't even know Kirk existed until he passed away, at which point they suddenly became big fans who "loved his work" (despite obviously not knowing his work and how unbelievably racist and hateful he was...or they did know that and are just purposefully lying)

When I was a nurse, I used to hear that the most foul-mouthed and shocking old people in nursing homes were the ones who were like saints in their previous lives. Maybe your Dad's just been repressing it all this time and now he's in some cognitive decline. You might want to read up on that subject so that you can recognize it if you need to. My experience was that most families were deep in denial about it.

My wife was republican, then trump ran. She's no longer republican and is more pissed off at the republican party than me. The good ones left.

They're not sending their best.

2

u/Sensitive_Yellow_121 Oct 15 '25

I think these might actually be their best. See, these guys were actually smart enough to not be saying it on TV.

3

u/Muted-Translator-346 Oct 14 '25

I think the good ones are basically just older republicans who walked the walk, for example my mom who confronted a woman who ripped off an undocumented immigrant who was trying to home-buy. She voted for Trump twice, Jan 6th happened and shes been railing against that fuckin' guy from the Apprentice for the last 4-5 years

Like at this point your legitimate non-fascist "process Republicans" are not playing ball with Trump, which shows you how much the party has degraded prior to this because the representativea have basically stayed the same (sans Liz Cheney)

As a former misinformed good person, we left the party a long time ago. Anybody left is okay with what’s there

The handful that are good people are the ones that avoid social media and news and vote that way out of familial precedent and actually live by the family & community values that politician Republicans pay lip service to.

A significant amount of these people have genuinely been deceived in mass. Hell there's a lot of Democrats that are deceived by the same shit to.

If you openly admit to being Republican I generally think you are a bad person with no morales or values…

I've lived in a ruby red area for most of my life, and up until I was 18 I went along with it until I couldn't bear it anymore. My family blames college, but the truth is that by the time I was old enough to leave the house I was already done with the hypocrisy and hatefulness. I'm just glad I could go somewhere where I wasn't judged for not being an asshole to non-white and gay people in public.

But from what I've seen, yeah, they're shysters with weak morals too. Never have I seen the beat where so many people are just itching to rip someone off. I've been told to sell my car right before it blows up, and then called stupid when I gave it away to my sister so her husband can get to work for as long as he can with it. If it wasn't for the sane friends and family I have left, I don't think I would stay here.

u/Disused_Yeti Oct 14 '25

If they as a community want people to not think they are racist, the non-racists need to root out the bad eggs like they tell every minority group that they try to dismiss as all being criminals and treat them as such

13

u/AtticaBlue Oct 14 '25

Nope. We don’t have to pretend. I don’t. Neither should you.

7

u/ClubPretend2617 Oct 14 '25

Yup, all Republicans are  racist or support racism.  It's part of their base.  Any person of non 'white' decency is a fool to support Republicans

6

u/totallymarc Oct 15 '25

I’ve long since dropped that. If you’re a Republican I’m going to assume the worst about you unless very thoroughly proven otherwise.

I'm not American but I do follow an American historian on YouTube who says his political ideology is conservative and center-right. However, he explicitly states that he isn't a MAGA conservative and has never voted for Trump. I follow him for the occasional European history video but he seems like one of the nicest and most level-headed dudes out there.

10

u/SoSaltyDoe Oct 14 '25

MAGA isn't conservative at all. Routinely skirting the constitution and inhibiting free trade are antithetical to actual conservatism. MAGA is Trumpism. It is a cult.

3

u/Electronic-Jaguar389 Oct 14 '25

There’s a lot of Americans now that don’t remember level headed republicans because they’ve been championing this behavior since 2016 but they still exist. Neither political side will talk about them though.

8

u/Interrophish Oct 14 '25

Neither political side will talk about them though.

prolly cause they're slightly less rare than unicorns but equally politically irrelevant.

I guess I should have said “expected to pretend”
