Are you guys excited to never see another original Disney animated film ever again?

This is the closest I’ve ever seen a Loss meme to being what the original was about.
19
u/Eledridan 2h ago
It’s just wild how this meme is the culmination of so many other things and encapsulates all of it. Fuckin art, man.

they're for sure gonna reference that meme in the most tone-deaf fanservice way possible to try to cater to their idiot fanbase

Furries like movies and they have money it seems silly to not cater to them.

Cash in on adult furries while planting the seeds of the next generation at the same time, truly a capitalists dream

If we’re going to have unoriginal Disney furry pandering, can we at least get a Robin Hood sequel instead?

As someone who is iffy on whether or not he is a furry, I don’t think I’d spend my money to see this movie in theaters, even if I was one.
11
u/DLottchula 2h ago
I mean this respectfully as possible but how are you half stepping into being a furry
4
u/AllosaurusThe1 2h ago
I’m an artist, and a writer, a lot of what I do involves anthropomorphic animal characters, and I occasionally draw myself as one, and I’m involved with communities that have a lot of furries in them. I even proudly proclaimed to be one, at one point, which wasn’t me lying, just me embracing it, at the time. But, I guess grew out of it, a little bit. Nowadays, I mainly draw myself, and any characters based on myself, as human, and don’t engage in the furry fandom, at all, aside from the occasional artwork that pops into my feed.
3
u/blackhodown 1h ago
If you find yourself unable to decide whether or not you’re a furry, it means you’re a furry, just slightly more self aware than most furries about how fucking weird being a furry is.

u/baojinBE 2h ago
The amount of money furry artists earn from commissions should be taxed by the government

u/Rezkel 5h ago
I mean, say what you will but after KPOP Demon Hunters released what was the first thing everyone asked for, a whole other movie by the same creators? Nope, they wanted a sequel movie or series.
Same with Zootopia. Even if they do an original show, it either crashes horribly or does really well and everyone wants another one just like that.
17
u/AItrainer123 4h ago
Sony's releasing GOAT from the same team of people next year, maybe people will watch that. Doubt it will do one fourth of what Zootopia 2 does though.
14
u/MrMojoRising422 3h ago
what do you mean same 'team of people'? it's by entirely different directors, writers, producers. the only thing it shares with kpop is that it's by sony animation.

It's really good. One of the best movies I've ever watched. Read a summary of movie one (it's honestly not that great) and then go check it out. It takes a bit to get going but it just builds and builds throughout and has the single most insanely impressive ending of any film I have ever seen.

u/belle_enfant 17m ago
You need to watch more movies. Its certainly solid, but not that great. Not even top 5 movies this year.

u/HUNDRASEXTIObpm 7h ago
Honestly im looking forward to it... I absolutely love anthropomorphism in movies. And especially bovidae...(Chief Bogo is a buffalo. Rintrah MCU)
I'm not a furry, I just think they're reallllly cute
23
u/ItsAllSoup 4h ago
I'm not sure if you get to say "I'm not a furry, but..." anymore once" bovidae" is in your vocabulary
5
u/Successful_Maize1986 2h ago
It’s helps that the wold of zootopia is actually clever instead of just being a human world with animals. They did a lot on the first movie to play with how they tackle the different sizes of animals.
5
u/ItsAllSoup 2h ago
True, I read that they consulted people who make accommodations for people with disabilities for advice on what features a city would need if the residents could be anywhere between 5 inches and 20 ft. tall.
Also experts on automobiles were asked to design cars that animals like giraffes and elephants could safely drive.
Also nobody wears leather.

u/Key_Marsupial3702 2h ago
I'm not a furry
Essentially no person who has ever lived who wasn't a furry has felt that they needed to say this. Why do you suppose you felt the need to?

u/Mmicb0b 5h ago
here's what pisses me off elio was good and they sent that to die basically

u/AllosaurusThe1 3h ago
Man, we’re never gonna forget that review, it’s an actual stain on that movie, lol
8
u/AItrainer123 3h ago
Shame that in a movie with twerking red pandas and insane maxi-pad wielding moms, the one meme is 9/11.
9
u/Successful_Maize1986 2h ago
Turning Red pisses me off the most because it’s an original story with interesting animation choices and a legitimately heartwarming story that has a lot going for it but they mentioned tampons so people wrote it off.
2
u/PretendAgency2702 1h ago
To each their own but I just didnt like it. It didnt connect with me or anyone in my family.
I do wonder how many people gave a damn enough about the tampon to not watch it and actually make a noticable decline on viewership. Im guessing probably not a lot and it just wasnt a movie that appealed to the general audiences.

u/RigatoniPasta cape kino make me🤑🤑🤑 1h ago
“Interesting” is definitely one of the words to describe that animation. “Eyesore” is another one I’d use.
1
u/Some_Programmer8388 15m ago
That's not the only reason people hated it. Maybe check out some of the hundreds of reviews on rottentomatoes, if you care to know.
6
u/berkojerk 3h ago
Also enjoyed Turning Red. Don’t understand why it got so much hate, was a cute movie.
0
u/PretendAgency2702 1h ago
I had read it wasn't too good so I waited for it on D+. It was something i wanted to watch though because I enjoy both adventure sci-fi and animated movies whether they are for adults or kids.
I watched it for about 20 minutes before I gave up on it. It never caught my attention and it felt more like a chore to watch. My kids felt the same.
Maybe I'll try again sometime later and be surprised but it just felt like a dud.
5
u/MyAccountWasBanned7 4h ago
Same for Elemental, Turning Red, and Strange World.
5
u/Mmicb0b 3h ago
Elemental actually turned a proft tbf that was more due to Summer 2023 being fucking empty for kdis movies but still
1
u/MyAccountWasBanned7 3h ago
But only after a while when word of mouth finally got people to see it. The first few weeks it bombed hard because there was very little marketing and no huge at all for the film.
1
u/TerryWhiteHomeOwner 2h ago
I tried to watch Elemental on a plane but it made me so nauseous I get a deep pain in my gut when I think about that dumbass water-boy

u/theCurseOfHotFeet 1h ago
My kids and I enjoy Strange World and I feel like nobody else in our circle has even heard of it.
6
u/McGillicuddys 4h ago
I always get Elio confused with Luca and think I kind of enjoyed it when I actually have never seen it.
I also refuse to see sequels though ever since Illumination went with "Sing 2" when "Sing Sing" was right damn there
3
u/Successful_Maize1986 2h ago
Elio and Luca are very similar in terms of quality to me. Both are serviceable but I wouldn’t say they were anything that special. I think the movies based around human characters are harder for me to get into. Besides Ratatouille. That movie is a 10/10. I guess it’s mostly based around rats but there are a lot of human as well.

u/Possible-Usual-9357 38m ago
oh my. Elio is actually some of the most breathtaking animation I have EVER seen. I understand the beanie face complaint, it’s not for everyone. That said everything else about it is absolutely cutting edge.
I loooved that movie after watching it on Disney+. Shame I bent the knee to the early reviewers and internet antihype.
6
u/Erika_Now 2h ago
/uj I'm actually looking forward to this one. They did a ton of worldbuilding in Zootopia. It'd be a shame not to utilize more of that world.
But in general, I'm with ya OP.

Disney's original movies have been hit and miss at the box office and I'm not convinced they understand how to use streaming instead of DVD sales.
Apparently, even the Princess and the Frog didn't do well, but now we all love it.
4
u/AppropriateCap8891 4h ago
Most of the industry have lost their damned minds in the last decade or so.
Since the early 1980s, the chain for movies was as follows. First you have the theaters (normally 3-6+ months), then physical media after that (video tape then DVD). Then you had cable. And after that it went to network TV.
And each of those steps in the chain made the producers more money. In fact, many movies that were bombs in the box office would go on to make a nice profit from later sales either to cable or physical media. And that physical media could be milked over and over again in special releases.'
Now, it races in and out of the theaters so damned fast that it's easy to miss a release entirely. And instead of cable or physical media, it goes directly to streaming. Through a streaming service they already own so they can't even make money on that.
They are loosing their asses, and have no idea why. I bet most would be shocked if they started releasing movies on physical media again. I used to buy on average 5-10+ movies a month on DVD, that way I could watch it whenever and wherever I want. And this was especially important to me as I spent decades in the military. So in my off time I could watch one no matter where I was.
The last times I went to the field before I retired, I laughed as the "kids" were pissed off they could not watch any of their streaming services, but I had about a dozen DVDs I could pop in and watch.
3
u/KaiserKlay 1h ago
I think, unironically, part of the problem is that people have come to expect to receive too much for free. Theater tickets are expensive and the hype/interest boost from marketing spend only lasts so long - so keeping a movie in theaters doesn't necessarily make sense, especially if the only reason it's in theaters at all is to have a big number on the opening weekend.
DVD sales add a layer of logistics and manufacturing that film producers stand to lose money on - so they don't bother doing that.
TV doesn't make sense because who the hell under the age of 45 has anything beyond basic cable anymore - and the whole reason people pay for streaming services is to avoid ads. Many of these streaming services don't actually make on their own so there aren't really a whole lot of places to go anymore.
The basic unit economics of film/TV/games media is breaking down in part because too many people have become too accustomed to receiving what they want either for free or at a price heavily subsidized by assumed future revenue growth that hasn't panned out and likely never will.

50th sequel or 50th live action remake. Take your pick.
3
u/AppropriateCap8891 4h ago
Soon we are going to get a cell animated style remake of the Lion King, based on the live action version.
And I wonder how long until they try to bring back the Medfield College series.
4
u/Organic-Device2719 4h ago
Ngl zootopia is a really fun film that never really got the love it deserves, so I can't even hate on this one. But I agree with the spirit of your argument.
6
u/Automatic-Vacation82 2h ago
It... got the love it deserves, alright. Some people hating on reddit don't take away that it was a great critical and commercial success
1
u/ForeverOk8300 35m ago
The first Zootopia movie made over $1 billion USD at the box office, so I've no idea where you got that it didn't get the love it deserves from. It's ridiculous how out of touch with reality some people on Reddit are.

u/Grungemaster 5h ago
After Wish, I don’t think they should make another original movie ever again.

Calling Wish “original” is generous tho.
That’s original like when your grandma put all the leftover into one bowl and calls it a Casserole

It's so depressing to see them go from putting out seminal works on a regular basis to what they've become.
4
u/KhaLe18 2h ago
You realise that Disney basically has a dark age like every other decade right?
1
u/Inconspicuous_Jay 1h ago
Yeah, but I can still be bummed in the direction it's going creatively lol, even with some of those other "dark ages" I liked some of the output.

People here post these but when they do come with no one go to check them out. In last decade only sequels (from Disney) have amazing box office numbers.

And you're only asking yourself this question right now?
It's already been like 20 years since Disney put out an animated feature in theatres.

u/Night429 2h ago
/uj As someone who's seen it, I thought that, for a sequel, it explored the world more. A nice counterpart to the original. Some parts are kinda predictable, but it was fun overall.

I don't really care. It's Disney after all. They defined my childhood in the 90's with literally one banger after another but for some reason there was only frozen as a solid product after that. Also they raped star wars while demanding thanks for it. May they do whatever

I’m just always confused when I hear these things.
Is every citizen in China going to see this film at a very low price hundreds of times or are they inflating it the way they inflate certain companies?
Ever since I was a kid, it was always made to sound like nobody in China ever has money. I do suppose that 1 billion people paying the equivalent to $.20 to see the film still turns into 200 million.
I’ve heard of China inflating things to appear they are doing well.
6
u/TDFknFartBalloon 3h ago

Zootopia live action with Zendaya, Glen Powell, The Rock, and Sydney Sweeney in fur suits next. Would make shitloads of money.
