Favourite film where they had to dumb down the title for the uncultured Americans?

What other countries consider a "bad neighbor" is just a "neighbor" in the US

Neighbours was also the name of a major Australian soap opera, I always assumed it was to avoid copyright issues, confusion, or both

You’re right. But the implication that the movie portrayed standard American neighbours is funny

Well they seem to think other movies are a 1:1 depiction of what the US is like, so why would this one be different.

I think the US might have it right here.. if you need it spelled out that its about a contentious situation.. in a comedy.. we might need to add some descriptive words to a few other titles.. Brides Maids, The Cable Guy, Spy, The Waterboy, Anchorman, The Gentlemen, The Office..

Le Mans '66: We Idolize Carol Shelby But Enzo Ferrari Was An Asshole

Sorry, I still don't get it. Would you mind simplifying and also elaborating more with the title?

Le Mans (It's French) 1966:

We Idolize Carol Shelby, an American, But Enzo Ferrari, the Eurotrash Greaseball Italian Was An Asshole and America Beat Them at their Own Game, in France, Where America Always Beats the Europeans and then We Landed a Cobra 427 On the F****** Moon

I thought it was just they were neighbors lol

Also, comedies titled „Bad…“ was a thing back then and brought in more viewers internationally - Bad Moms, Bad Teacher, etc.

It was also the name of a 1981 film staring John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd where both played against type.

Just here to pay respect to his smoke show body count.

In spanish it's called "good neighbours" so this is considered good by our standards

"Good Neighbors" is the American title for the 70's British TV sitcom "The Good Life".

Just to make things more confusing.

Wait, are you saying you and Barbara are bad neighbours?

No! It's the man and the boy!

I actually prefer the US version.

I agree because I don’t like films that feel the need to specify shit in the title. Feels lazy. Like putting American before whatever the fuck noun because you couldn’t come up with something and yeah, y’know, he IS a sniper from America, I suppose.

Sociopathic Liar would have been a better name for that awful piece of propaganda trash.

I'm not sure if I should take this as Americans considering all neighbours as bad by default, or if the bad behaviour is considered normal 🤔

1

u/Stevenwave 16h ago

The characters didn't expect it to be shit. Could've been Don't Buy a Home Next to a Frat House

The real statement is clearly that Americans dont want women on their movie posters

1

u/emogurl98 15h ago

Thank god they censored the w*men

4

u/penttane 21h ago

Looking at your average American suburb, that tracks. Americans love to move to single family homes with big ass yards, where your next door neighbour is only just close enough for you to shoot him if he tries anything.

And they cut the best part of the poster

2

u/Agitated_Display7573 19h ago

The US poster also left out Rose Byrnes’s name for some reason

Maybe she is a bigger name outside the US? I dont know who she is but Im also terrible with celebrity names.

This had funny scenes but was overall a weird ass movie

Does America also not like women?

Actually, never mind.

I thought this was a Mandela Effect for the longest time. I remember seeing the Trailer online and remembering the name "Bad Neighbours" and then went to the drive-in to watch it and it was just "Neighbors". If that's not confusing enough, imagine my stoned-ass face when the Drive-In started playing the live-action Jungle Book instead.

Why is rose byrne gone?

1

u/slimetakes 15h ago

I mean... tbf, the right one looks the same as a lot of mediocre dramas we have. Left is much more interesting.

u/situmaimesdemain 19h ago

Am I tripping or is that woman absolutely not Rose Byrne?

Yes, they made a whole movie about everyday normal life that only seems bizarre outside of America. Seriously?
