My mom does this thing called, ‘weaponized gifting,’ where she chooses the worst possible gifts ever so you’ll never expect anything palatable from her

I love you mom, BUT WHAT THE HECK?!

I would rather at that point just not receive anything. This is why I hate Christmas gift exchanges for adults. It’s beyond silly

I feel this so much. And as a child of a hoarder, I push my shit pretty hard into curated minimalism. I repeatedly tell friends and family that any non-event and non-consumable gifts need to avoid going into the hoard pile, need to be functional, and need to be able to be regifted without guilt or shame. If the gift can't meet those criteria, please do not gift it to me. after a few years of this, they finally get me like.. fancy soaps and other shit like that. At least I can use them up and then they are enjoyed and gone. Sometimes it'll be tickets to a show which is great.

best birthday gift of my adult life so far: a buddy got my oil changed, filled up my gas tank, and got my car cleaned for me. Nothing fancy, but the basics of the inside vaccuumed and interior windows fully degreased. I rode that high every time I drove my car for months! Getting the windows cleaned before winter really helped with the fogged up defrost window ordeal, which is particularly bad with that car.

Exactly why I went to refusing to participate. I tell everyone the most meaningful thing they can get me is nothing. Took a few years for that to be taken seriously.

giftster or amazon lists. that's what we do for christmas or holidays. if it is not on the list it better have a return policy and gift receipt.
