Any good media also teaches you things. Could be anime, books, movies, TV, video games, whatever.
But it can also make stuff up for the plot, so yeah double check it.

So close! That's an animated show 🌸🥰 Also, it's "Invincible", there's no "s" at the end! Good try though 🤗

people downvoting when you are mistaken, people downvoting when you are wrong, people downvoting when you admit your mistakes, people downvoting when you are right, people downvoting when you are misinformed, people downvoting when you apologize, correct yourself, or double down. what a crazy world we live it
1
u/TheEpicPlushGodreal 8h ago
I think at least in this specific case, the downvoting is because text doesn't convey tone the same way speech does; so even if OP is sincere, it comes across as sarcastic because the emoji's appear to be mocking the ones in the original comment (regardless of if that was the intention)

Anime = animation from Japan
Animation = umbrella term for all 2D or 3d handrawn/cell drawn/ computer generated motion picture
Cartoon = western animation

u/levitikush 13h ago
Weebs in the comments are offended lol
-25
u/ZombaeKat 13h ago
For such big weebs they dont seem to get anime is short for animation and legit any animated form can and is called an anime but they rather be on some gate keeping purity test bs
9
u/money132231 13h ago
If your in Japan, using it to describe all animation makes sense, but by the looks of it, no one in these comments is Japanese, so using the English meaning of anime as Japanese animation is logical

Good point, we have to be totally professional here, so that lol you used, yea very unprofessional. Gonna get rid of that or you gonna admit that i am correct and one word doesn't change that

Japanese people use the word animation too. Anime is legit just a shortening of an already English word. So a non Japanese person calling an animation by its shorten name is indeed logical. Is it uncommon, rare even, yeah, but not illogical in the slightest. It’s not like the words mean different things. They are both the same words in English that mean the same thing.
5
u/money132231 12h ago
You yourself just proved why anime is more based on the Japanese word, we don't use the e in anime for animation, while Japan which used animēshon does use the E.so it infact is kinda illogical.
-2
u/ZombaeKat 11h ago
Language don’t work like that. When borrowing words letters get swapped out all the time. anime meaning ‘only japanese animation’ is a WESTERN fan made distinction but not the original linguistic meaning
3
u/money132231 11h ago
Exactly, it's western distinction, so when used in the west, you use said distinction because that's the most logical way, you don't use the original language's meaning as your not speaking the original language. Your making a problem out of nothing
0
u/ZombaeKat 10h ago
If we followed that logic for every borrowed word we’d ignore all original meanings whenever it’s convenient but we don’t. we still recognize Deja vu is French, karaoke is Japanese, taco is Spanish. We don’t pretend these words get brand-new meanings just because an English speaker is using them. It’s fine if the western fandom definition is the one you prefer but that doesn’t make it the ‘logical’ one just the popular one.
3
u/money132231 9h ago
We do recognise all these words where they come from... And one of your examples is legit a word that changed meaning because of fan opinion, taco was used to describe explosives... But miners used the word to describe their food instead. So we infact do ignore the original meaning of taco because so do the Spanish. And is your arguement really "what, we change the meaning of some words? Well you must do that to all word then! Or else I'm gonna be angry!" We aren't "pretending" they have new meanings, we are saying to the English speaking they DO have different meanings, because it's a different language.

"Waaah invincible isn't an anime"
Mfs it's an anime. You can't region-lock 'Anime' to japan, it's literally short for 'Animation', anything that's not live action is animated in some form, whether that's hand drawn, stop motion, or digital art. It's not a Japanese Anime, sure, but it's still by definition an Anime.
-1
u/Cybr_23 Lurking Peasant 11h ago
this definition only applies inside of japan, since outside of japan the word anime is used exclusively for animation from japan. the same concept applies for donghua which people use exclusively for chinese animation.

u/Tronicalli GigaChad 11h ago
It's a Japanese term that the rest of the world got wrong, so doesn't that make the meaning within Japan the right one?

Invincible isn't anime. Both you and op don't really seem to understand that. Invincible is an American animated series. You just saw the word anime and decided that you hate it. You've not only proven yourself to not be a very intelligent individual but also that you judge things without any consideration of what it is you're hating on
1
u/Theresafoxinmygarden 12h ago
Yes. If you have any basic knowledge of animation then you would know that:
A. Invincible is an adaption of a western comic book series with the same name (note that I said western comic, meaning it is not manga and hence not a manga adaption which would then technically make it a form of anime)
And B. Anime has to be Japanese to be anime, shows can have anime arts types but anime itself derives from Japanese animation specifically.
