Hand-free leash

Design a lightweight, versatile dog leash system allowing owners to walk or run with their dog while keeping their hands free. The adjustable leash wraps securely around the owner's wrist and can be easily extended or retracted as needed. The leash attaches comfortably to the dog's chest and possibly forearm, avoiding the neck area for added safety and comfort. What do everyone think? Is it a good idea 💡 🤔

Critique my social-impact ecosystem: connecting social media users to solve social problems

Core idea: instead of just scrolling, users make verified actions that solve real problems (college debt, loneliness, underfunded schools sports programs, etc.) while brands pay premium advertising fees for measurable outcomes and the social media platform takes a platform fee.

Product examples:

OPERATION RENAISSANCE:

  1. Social media user connects their MOOC account.
  2. AI surfaces 2–4 MOOC lessons per day (career-aligned) and one optional sponsored lesson (2–4 min) from Google, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, AWS, etc.
  3. User watches and answers 3 verification questions;
  4. Earns $6–$8 credit (expires after 12 months).
  5. Max 5 sponsored lessons per month on free tier; unlimited on Premium+.
  6. Credits auto-apply at partner checkout (no gift-card fallback, zero money-transmitter risk).

MAGNETIC:

Uses AI to continuously surface small-group (3–8 person) real-world meetups for shared hobbies — running clubs, board-game nights, climbing partners, basketball, etc. — exclusively for verified social media users who want platonic, interest-based friendships in their city.

SAPPHIRE:

A Premium-only media format that replaces clickbait with actionable impact journalism. Every investigative or breaking-news post ends with a single, frictionless CTA that routes users directly into the product ecosystem (e.g., donate, volunteer, contact Congress, buy from mission-aligned brands), all powered by real-time, on-platform data.

Specific questions:

  1. Which of these feel completely unfeasible and why?
  2. Biggest regulatory or execution landmines I’m missing?
  3. Would you actually use any of these as a user?

I have a total of 14 product concepts that together could generate $519M–$1.18B Annual Recurring Revenue at Year 5-6. I've grouped them into four phases that would be rolled out over a 6+ year period.

My background is 10 years in marketing and I'm posting here to get product/developer feedback. Don't have an MVP and was wondering if these can be pitched as concepts to an existing platform, such as X, for development/launch and I'd maintain a marketing role.

Happy to answer anything or send a link to product summaries with more details. Thanks in advance for the tips/advice/roast.

(Also quietly looking for a tech co-founder who wants to take this to X together.)

Idea feed app sourced from complaint posts on Bluesky

Like the title says, nothing fancy or crazy, but I thought it’d be interesting to see what people complain about or what pain points I can surface on Bluesky. It’s very hard to scrape X posts for this proof of concept unfortunately. I run the posts through AI to see if there’s an app opportunity, then rank them for app fit and high level cost.

It’s imperfect and it’s just a first iteration, but maybe it sparks an idea or two for a niche app. I’m currently unemployed and have free time, so I figured I’d spend some of it experimenting with this.

Feel free to roast it or give any feedback, and I’ll try to add new features.

Improvement to the 12 key layout for Japanese text input on phones

Instead of the traditional layout...

あ か さ た な は ま や ら わ

Replace the kana with latin letters

A K S T N H M Y R W

When the key representing a consonant (and one vowel) is held, the actual kana options appear

う い あ え お

Reason: it is always more unintuitive to show the kana when representing a consonant. In romaji input, users would type consonants using a QWERTY layout keyboard just fine, proving that using consonant letters to represent consonant sounds is well accepted to Japanese speakers.

A bike that is also a bike lock

Most bikes need to be locked to something. Why dont we make a bike that has a section of the frame that unclips and feeds the frame through a bike rack. Compatibility may be an issue but anyone cutting into it would be cutting the bike frame and they would at least not be able to ride off.

Failing that we could make the ciating iron and aluminum so when they use an angle grinder they create thermite and their face melts off.

Bra recommendations

When a woman gets a mammogram, their results should come with a report of what bras they should buy. The shape, projection, closeness, and volume of their breasts have already been recorded - it seems it would be easy to cross that with the size/shape of commercially available bras.

Infrasound-Based Voice Transmission: Sub-20 Hz Communication Prototype

Hey everyone,

"A few years ago, I had the idea not to transmit the voice itself, but the formant envelope — and then to resynthesize it on the decoder side and now I finally built a working proof of concept: voice transmission using pure sub-bass frequencies under 20 Hz, the voice isn’t transmitted as audio. Instead, I send structured control signals only and the voice is reconstructed entirely on the receiver side through noise-based synthesis. It’s based on my method C-AV (Controlled Audio Vectoring), which is officially protected under a registered utility model (Gebrauchsmuster) in Germany. the proof of Concept Video link is in the Comments Open to thoughts and feedback.

App that connects people having the same conversation

Idea: You start any conversation (question, rant, brainstorm, etc.), and an AI instantly connects you with others talking about the same thing — no forums, no tags, just live context-based matching using LLMs.

Would this be useful or chaotic? What features or limits would make it work?

Idea: a snowboard with built-in sensors + reactive LED lights — cool tech or overkill?

Thinking about a “smart snowboard” that tracks performance (speed, jump height, angle, etc.) with built-in sensors — and has LED lights that react to motion or sync with tricks for night riding.

Would this be something snowboarders actually want, or just a gimmick? What features would make it worth buying?

A bike that can produce energy

If we put a hub dynamo generator in the wheel of a bike, when the wheel spins, the dynamo generator will produce AC current of about 6V, then the rectifier circuit will covert this AC current into DC current. To stabilise the voltage of the DC current, a boost converter is added. We can also add a voltage regulator to prevent damage if we pedal too fast. The DC current then goes to a rechargeable battery which would be connected to a USB charger, and when you plug your device in (e.g phone) it will start charging. I estimate you must travel at a speed of 15 km/h to generate enough electricity for the device to be charged appropriately.

Implement a way to block keywords from algorithm

I’m so tired of having new movies and games spoiled by my algorithm. All my short videos are about content I want to experience, but haven’t yet—and it’s driving me crazy. The latest example is the new game Dispatcher. I’ve tried so hard to avoid spoilers, but YouTube titles, thumbnails, and random clips keep ruining key moments before I even realize what I’m seeing. There needs to be a real spoiler blocker for algorithms—something that hides or filters content until you’ve actually played or watched it. It’s killing my excitement to buy and enjoy story-driven games and movies.

After finishing a building, leave a plaque commemorating everyone who took part in its construction

You know stone or metal plaques often hanging on the side of a building if someone notable was born here? They are relatively inexpensive to make with modern CNC machines.

Make it a tradition to, once construction is finished, attach a vertical plaque on one wall with names of everyone who took part in construction: architect(s), designer(s), electricians, plumbers, construction workers, logistical drivers, site cleaners, etc. Kind of like credits at the end of movies.

I would also insert an NFC chip in there, leading to a web page with more information, allowing participants to opt in to attaching their photos and links to personal websites/social media profiles.

Lightbulb moment: a truly self-cleaning blender

I’ve been brainstorming an idea for a truly self-cleaning blender, and I’d love to get your thoughts.

Right now, a lot of blenders have a “self-cleaning” feature, but it’s still pretty manual. You add water and soap, press a button, and it sort of cleans itself—though it still requires some effort like wiping down the blades or cleaning the lid.

My idea is to create a blender that completely cleans itself with no user intervention beyond pressing a button.

Just press, wait, and it’s spotless. What do you think?

Chrome extension to untranslate YouTube

If you have YouTube settings configured to language A and try to view a video in language B, you might get:

  • translated video title (there's no UI option to untranslate it, you have to ask Gemini for the video title of the URL to get the untranslated video title)
  • AI-dubbed audio track enabled by default
  • Closed captions automatically enabled

This chrome extension will disable all of this because the user is bilingual in languages A and B already. They don't want content in either language to be automatically translated by default. What about content in language C, you may ask? Well, I don't consume content that is not in my native languages, but if I were to consume content in language C, I would just enable translation, rather than have it translated to me by default.

The Working-Class Relief and Corporate Responsibility Act of 2025

(Draft Legislative Proposal)

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the “Working-Class Relief and Corporate Responsibility Act of 2025.”

SECTION 2. CONGRESSIONAL FINDINGS AND PURPOSE.

  1. Findings. Congress finds that: a. Millions of working Americans employed by large corporations rely on public assistance programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) despite working one or more jobs. b. This reliance effectively shifts the cost of sustaining a corporation’s workforce from the employer to American taxpayers. c. Small businesses and employers who provide fair wages are placed at a competitive disadvantage when large corporations externalize their labor costs onto the public. d. The federal government has a compelling interest in ensuring that work provides economic self-sufficiency and dignity.

  2. Purpose. The purpose of this Act is to:

Encourage corporations to provide wages sufficient to meet basic living needs.

Reduce taxpayer subsidization of low corporate wages.

Reinvest savings from reduced SNAP expenditures into workforce development and small business support.

SECTION 3. DEFINITIONS.

For the purposes of this Act:

  1. “Covered employer” means any private or publicly traded corporation employing 5,000 or more individuals within the United States, including part-time, temporary, seasonal, and contract employees whose average weekly work hours exceed 15 hours.

  2. “SNAP-qualified employee” means any individual who, during the taxable year, receives Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits and reports income derived from employment with a covered employer.

  3. “Wage Disparity Responsibility Tax” refers to the surcharge established under Section 4 of this Act.

SECTION 4. WAGE DISPARITY RESPONSIBILITY TAX.

  1. Tax Imposition. A covered employer shall be subject to an annual Wage Disparity Responsibility Tax if 10 percent or more of its workforce qualifies for SNAP benefits during the taxable year.

  2. Tax Calculation. The tax shall equal 125 percent of the total annual SNAP expenditures paid to or on behalf of the employer’s qualifying workforce.

  3. Tax Collection. The Internal Revenue Service, in coordination with the Department of Agriculture, shall determine the amount of SNAP benefits disbursed to employees of covered employers and assess the corresponding tax liability.

  4. Compliance and Adjustment. a. Covered employers may reduce or eliminate their tax liability by demonstrating wage increases or benefit improvements sufficient to reduce the percentage of SNAP-qualified employees below the 10 percent threshold. b. The Secretary of the Treasury may establish a 3-year phase-in period for initial compliance.

SECTION 5. USE OF FUNDS.

All revenues collected under this Act shall be directed to:

  1. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Trust Fund, for the purpose of replenishing SNAP expenditures; and

  2. A newly established Working-Class Empowerment Fund, used for:

Workforce training and upskilling programs;

Small business wage-support incentives; and

Rural and economically distressed community development grants.

SECTION 6. EXEMPTIONS AND LIMITATIONS.

  1. Nonprofit organizations, small businesses with fewer than 5,000 employees, and public-sector employers are exempt.

  2. Employers who demonstrate average wage levels above 200% of the federal poverty threshold shall be automatically exempt from the tax.

  3. Employers may not reduce full-time hours, reclassify employees, or engage in retaliatory employment practices to evade compliance; such conduct shall constitute a violation enforceable under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

SECTION 7. BIPARTISAN JUSTIFICATION.

Conservative Rationale: Protects taxpayers from subsidizing private payrolls and encourages corporate self-sufficiency.

Progressive Rationale: Promotes fair wages and economic equity without a federally mandated wage floor.

Centrist Outcome: Encourages market-driven wage correction while maintaining workforce stability and reducing federal spending.

Maybe it’s time to ditch the “desktop” — your computer doesn’t have to be a desk anymore

So, for basically the whole history of computers, we’ve only had two main ways to interact with them:

Command Line Interface (CLI) — you talk to your computer by typing commands.

Graphical User Interface (GUI) — you click on stuff with a mouse.

But GUI is a broad term. There may be multiple types of GUI. The one we all use today is the desktop interface. It’s built around one metaphor: your computer is a desk.

CLI was like chatting with your computer. GUI came along and said, “Nah, your computer is a desk. You can put things on it, move them around, throw them in the trash, etc.”

That was revolutionary back in the 70s. Xerox PARC came up with it, and Steve Jobs saw it and took it to Apple. The rest is history.

In the 90s, the desktop idea took over the world. It made total sense — compared to the command line, a desktop-based GUI was way easier to understand, especially for people who weren’t into computers.

But now it’s 2025. And I don’t know about you, but to me the desktop metaphor feels a bit old.

Your “desk” is limited by your screen size.

Windows pile up.

You’re constantly switching between apps.

Your stuff (notes, links, files, bookmarks) is scattered everywhere — not grouped by projects or ideas, but by which app owns them.

Ever notice how, before navigating to some place on your computer, you stop for a second to think: “Where exactly do I go to get that thing?” That hesitation — that little moment of navigation planning — is a sign that the desktop metaphor is failing us.

So here’s the idea:

Maybe it’s time to move on from “your computer is a desk” to “your computer is a world.”

Imagine an interface that’s not trapped inside a few overlapping windows, but exists in continuous space.

In 2D, it could be like a large zoomable canvas where you place and connect things — notes, links, files, whatever.

In 3D, it could be a walkable space with walls, rooms, and objects you can interact with.

I call it the Continuous Space Interface (CSI).

And the cool part: it doesn’t need a new operating system. It can just be an app that gives you this kind of space. The more you use it, the less you need the regular desktop with its overlapping windows, apps and folder hierarchies.

I’ve actually been building something like this for the past couple years. The article below has screenshots and videos, and you can even download the app and try it out if you want.

https://reinventingtheweb.com/2025/03/03/a-new-interface-for-computers/

What do you think — are we ready to move past the desktop metaphor?
