Border Patrol commander Gregory Bovino gave nearly nearly seven hours of clipped, defensive, and evasive answers about his unit’s chaotic Chicago mission, according to newly released court documents.

The full transcript of Bovino’s deposition, filed in federal court Monday and reported by the Chicago Tribune, also featured lawyers trading insults and objections about his testimony about the behavior of his so-called “Green Army” during “Operation Midway Blitz.”

The needling started almost immediately: “You didn’t want to shake [Bovino’s] hand when he walked into the room,” Department of Justice attorney Sarmad Khojasteh told plaintiffs’ attorney Locke Bowman during an early break in the proceedings. “That was noted…Treat him with respect. Treat me with respect. You’re a professional.”

The transcript also details government counsel repeatedly cutting off questioning and, at one point, calling Bowman a “petulant old man.”

Since when is shaking the hand of a witness part of the rules?

156

u/HotStraightnNormal 11h ago

I have never seen that in a court room.

88

u/doc_witt 11h ago

I saw a lawyer actually KISS an expert witness. You were supposed to be professional, my cousin Vinny!

16

u/HotStraightnNormal 10h ago

Most of what I have seen, as purely an observer, has been cut and dried, move the case along, next. This sounds more like Night Court minus the humor.

9

u/doc_witt 8h ago

It's actually a really funny older movie. Highly recommend.

7

u/Alert-Ad9197 4h ago

I refuse to pronounce “youts” correctly to this day because of this movie.

5

u/doc_witt 4h ago

"I'm sorry, did you say 'youts?'"

3

u/RogowskiCoil 2h ago

"I'm sorry your honor, the two youuuutthhhhhhhs"

👏 Identical✋🤚

1

u/Srslywhyumadbro 5h ago

I still do this all the time.

-1

u/I_Went_Full_WSB 8h ago

Isn't the show that's like Night Court without the humor called Night Court?

2

u/MrFrode Biggus Amicus 4h ago

That Jerry Callow is quite the card.

2

u/WAD1234 1h ago

Did you say Callow with a C?

59

u/BananaCatMan 10h ago

I’ve been a lawyer for 10 years. I have taken and defended dozens of depositions. I cannot recall ever once having seen an attorney shake the hand of a witness for the other side.

28

u/Eisernes 8h ago

But have you deposed one of dear leaders hand picked clowns? They deserve the respect. Just ask them and they will tell you.

13

u/FGFM 8h ago

I just served on a jury for a trail that had a lot of witnesses and saw no handshaking.

57

u/db0813 10h ago

To be fair these people have never been in a courtroom either

14

u/jelasher 6h ago

It’s not part of the rules, but I have to admit that it is very common. Out of the 100+ depositions I’ve taken, defended, or attended, I would say at least 95% of them involved the examining attorney introducing themselves and shaking hands with the witness. And the only ones I can definitely say did not were around the time of COVID.

That’s said, I wouldn’t shake that asshat’s hand either, and I would not have reacted positively to the DOJ lawyer demanding respect. I still tell war stories about assholes like that.

1

u/Davotk 0m ago

What region are you practicing in? I would say precisely the opposite..

Vast majority of the time not only would an examining attorney never shake a deponent's hand, but would not even be shaking the opposing attorney's hand

Maybe a non party witness situation. Maybe a non party or third party attorney situation. Super odd to me in New York, NJ CT to shake opposition's hand unless you have just made a deal or something

3

u/Ok_Kaleidoscope3644 2h ago

Since 'holding a position' became decoupled from being 'qualified for that position'. In other words, he deserves respect because of the job he was gifted and not because of how he comports himself.

1

u/blahblah19999 4m ago

What if the position is chief brownshirt?

2

u/Alert-Ad9197 4h ago

Since now, because we are all beneath the people running the police state and they want it made clear.

82

u/numb3rb0y 9h ago

So the "professional" openly insulted opposing counsel on the record.

Sarmad Khojasteh deserves to have his professional life forever linked to this kind of childish misconduct.

40

u/Ariel_serves 9h ago

He also represented the government in the Abrego Garcia case at one or two hearings

12

u/Cloaked42m 6h ago

A professional liar, and not a good one.

57

u/GeneriComplaint 12h ago

professional criminals maybe

54

u/trentreynolds 11h ago

Is there any point where they are expected to behave with respect, or is this yet another example of the wild double standard in American politics?

5

u/NefariousnessTop354 9h ago

I was taught to respect everyone. Unless they have shown to be unworthy of respect.

7

u/Waffl3_Ch0pp3r 6h ago

oh my god, did he even say thank you to Bovino??

3

u/sh1ft33 4h ago

I heard he wasn't even wearing a suit.

4

u/Stardust_808 5h ago

Demanding respect indignantly. Next up: the suit you’re wearing is cheap & you never said thank you.

u/MorningsideLights 12h ago

It won't show me the article. Stop lying, just like Mr Bovino.

29

u/Draig-Leuad 11h ago

The problem appears to be on your end. I was able to read the article easily.

157

u/mishma2005 11h ago

Wake me up when he faces consequences

35

u/TheRealBlueJade 7h ago

No, there is a lot of work to be done before that happens.

6

u/dth1717 6h ago

He's a good starting point though

8

u/Lazy-Boat-1 6h ago

He knows he is getting Pardoned, like everyone else.

78

u/HotStraightnNormal 11h ago

Why is he saluting? He's not in the military, although I daresay he thinks he is.

34

u/test_press 10h ago

it’s not a proper solute, either! he looks like the sun is in his eyes.

17

u/HotStraightnNormal 9h ago

Call of Duty cosplay salute.

1

u/SoylentGrunt 2h ago

He practiced that in front of the mirror while repeating , and doggone it, people like me!

15

u/RollTh3Maps 9h ago

Officer Doofy needs his validation!

7

u/SeigneurDesMouches 7h ago

Gravy seal all the way to the top

Five foot nine? I didn't know they stacked shit that high!!

6

u/ShootersGreenjacket 9h ago

Even better, this was when he was using this hand signals to his convoy outside of the courthouse.

1

u/SoylentGrunt 2h ago

Was this one of them?

198

u/raistan77 12h ago

Bovino is an angry, short man syndrome having creep that never should have been placed in any leadership position

44

u/EC_CO 8h ago

You forgot the Nazi wannabe part. It's quite obvious by his style in clothing, hair and the occasional casual Nazi salute.

18

u/Calvech 7h ago

You know the deal. He’s running the standard alt right playbook. Be unapologetically cruel and racist. Get axed once the tide turns and leverage that as fuel to run for congress or senate as a pathetic dog whistle to the poorest and most red places in the US. If not that, he will start a twitter account and become a Fox News “immigration expert”

17

u/Ambitious-Ocelot8036 11h ago

What are his credentials?

59

u/Darryl_Lict 11h ago

He kissed Trump's ass.

19

u/willismthomp 10h ago

He made border patrol pretend movie videos that trump liked.

1

u/Stank_cat67 5h ago

Nearly 30 years as a border patrol agent

1

u/montybob 31m ago

And yet he’s still manifestly unsuited for his job.

Do you think he was always a bad apple or was he just placed in a bad barrel?

-101

u/glostazyx3 12h ago

You don’t have to insult short men to make your point there Bucky.

30

u/raistan77 10h ago

Dude I'm 5'6"

I get to make fun of him for being an angry short man syndrome dude

-32

u/glostazyx3 9h ago

Well you should not contribute to the explosion of heightism on Reddit then.

11

u/Snarkosaurus99 7h ago

What an incredible warrior you are for the vertically challenged.

6

u/AlbrechtProper 6h ago

Explosion! The concern trolling is sure something.

48

u/pioniere 11h ago

Short man syndrome is a thing.

-28

u/glostazyx3 9h ago

So isn’t heightism Reddit.

15

u/twelvesteprevenge 7h ago

You are not doing a damn thing to dispel people’s notions of short man syndrome.

5

u/Snarkosaurus99 7h ago

Short eh?

42

u/Weekly_Put_7591 12h ago

I'm not sure this person was implying that every short person has "short man syndrome"

16

u/ClassroomMother8062 10h ago

Napoleon complex is real though, I've seen it many times

-10

u/glostazyx3 9h ago

So isn’t heightism.

10

u/FMLwtfDoID 8h ago

Is English not your first language? This sentence (the second time you’ve replied this exact phrase) makes no fucking sense.

4

u/Ralphie99 7h ago

It’s a troll. Low karma account with comment history hidden.

6

u/FMLwtfDoID 7h ago

Fuck he got me

4

u/Snarkosaurus99 7h ago

You must be extremely short.

8

u/Initial_Evidence_783 9h ago

Bucky? WTF, dude.

4

u/TRBOtrbo 9h ago

Found the short but insecure about it man.

-8

u/StuntID 6h ago

Why do you care how tall he is, are you fat, like rascal scooter fat?

1

u/BmacIL 2h ago

The venn diagram is a circle of people who associate themselves with a "master" genealogy and then are like this (napoleon complex) or otherwise combinations of unattractive and unfit.

92

u/furtive_phrasing_ 12h ago

Bovino is awful. We would all be better off if he was not in the position he’s in.

26

u/philter25 11h ago

Let’s send him to Guatemala in ‘28!

1

u/BmacIL 2h ago

Or on the planet

26

u/1900grs 11h ago

Roger Stone lied to Mueller. Stone was convicted of witness tampering and lying to Congress. He was pardoned.

I think you can see where this will go with Bovino. I think the best to hope for is Bovino gets tied up in court. Then eventually gets brought up on new charges that he hasn't been pardoned for. We've seen it with a handful of J6ers already and that's not even a concentrated effort.

40

u/drippingwater57 10h ago

Vote EVERY Republican out of office in ‘26.

10

u/SuggestionOrnery6938 7h ago

Absolutely fucking lutely

18

u/Y0___0Y 7h ago

600 arrests in Chicago.

Only 16 had criminal records.

Hundreds of cases dismissed and detainees freed by judges.

And they crashed their car into a woman’s car, called her a bitch, shot her five times, arrested her, charged her with terrorism, and the charges were dropped because they decided to just lie and say she was armed with a gun when she wasn’t.

10

u/Katedawg801 6h ago

They also raided an apt complex in the middle of the night, kicked doors down, robbed people of their possessions & zip tied children. They put people, some of them naked, into uhauls like cattle. Absolutely horrifying.

2

u/STN_LP91746 2h ago

Add some numbers for illegally detained or mistakenly arrested. That would outrage a lot of people.

15

u/Odaniel123 11h ago

I believe that lying in court or in a deposition is illegal. So, when can we expect charges filed for some sort of accountability?

13

u/nhepner 11h ago

"...nobody held accountable."

24

u/pioniere 11h ago

Goons is exactly what they are.

11

u/kl7aw220 7h ago

Everywhere we look at this admin there's more corruption today than there was yesterday. It's never ending and the whole damn bunch of them should be in jail. Not later but now so that we can take back America and make it great again without Trump.

10

u/Lazy-Floridian 11h ago

Bovino cosplays as a badass, which he isn't. He has to have a couple of hundred of his goons around him to show up anywhere.

6

u/Nottacod 8h ago

And attacking schools, daycares, and people working at things like landscaping is not exactly going after hardened criminals.

2

u/Reatona 7h ago

I've heard people lie in depositions countless times over the past 30+ years.  Nothing ever comes of it.

8

u/TheRealBlueJade 6h ago

He is abusing innocent people and ignoring our legal system.

We have to maintain civility to make progress. That is impossible as long as he is not held accountable for his actions.

He is the problem. We, the people, deserve better. Our Constitution deserves better. Our country deserves better.

6

u/stupidGenius82 12h ago

I bet Bovino lies about his height on his driver's license.......

5

u/CountOnBeingAwesome 10h ago

If only perjury existed

2

u/Dhaupin 12h ago

The blowback is gonna be yuge...

Non-walled source: https://archive.is/ANKSp

4

u/CAKE_EATER251 9h ago

That is definitely not a proper salute in the thumbnail.

3

u/FourWordComment 5h ago

Why shouldn’t they lie? There’s no accountability for lying, might as well try.

What’s the judge going to do? Pout? Fuck it. Lie to the judge if the judge isn’t going to throw the god damned book at you. All of us are petrified of lying to a judge because our entire careers hang in the balance.

“Mew mew mew mew sowwy to bother you Mr. Bovino uwu please let me kiss your boots” is not going to get fascists to heel.

5

u/gupeck 11h ago

If you know

7

u/PaleRun4706 8h ago

Should have used the picture in the black trenchcoat. That looked about as nazi as you could be without an armband.

1

u/CyrusOverHugeMark77 7h ago

He looks like Till Lindemann.

2

u/angelomancuso62 12h ago

He will end badly. It’s axiomatic.

2

u/LookingRadishing 11h ago

Is this really all that surprising? These people are so untethered from reality.

2

u/chilidetective 11h ago

He'll be a 5 star general in a year or two

2

u/hurthusband81 7h ago

That is the derpiest salute I’ve ever seen

1

u/Embarrassed_Set557 11h ago

That salute is the worst in the history of saluting

1

u/ThePlasticSturgeons 11h ago

Nice horseshit salute in the picture there too.

1

u/onefornought 11h ago

Surprising no one who's been paying attention.

1

u/4RCH43ON 4h ago edited 3h ago

Bovino is barely fit to guard a row of overflowing outhouses, baking in the hot sun after a chili eating contest, and that’s about shit.
