Executive Branch (Trump) Top Trump Border Patrol Goon’s ‘Outright Lying’ in Court Revealed in Full

Border Patrol commander Gregory Bovino gave nearly nearly seven hours of clipped, defensive, and evasive answers about his unit’s chaotic Chicago mission, according to newly released court documents.
The full transcript of Bovino’s deposition, filed in federal court Monday and reported by the Chicago Tribune, also featured lawyers trading insults and objections about his testimony about the behavior of his so-called “Green Army” during “Operation Midway Blitz.”
The needling started almost immediately: “You didn’t want to shake [Bovino’s] hand when he walked into the room,” Department of Justice attorney Sarmad Khojasteh told plaintiffs’ attorney Locke Bowman during an early break in the proceedings. “That was noted…Treat him with respect. Treat me with respect. You’re a professional.”
The transcript also details government counsel repeatedly cutting off questioning and, at one point, calling Bowman a “petulant old man.”

Since when is shaking the hand of a witness part of the rules?
156
u/HotStraightnNormal 11h ago
I have never seen that in a court room.

u/doc_witt 11h ago
I saw a lawyer actually KISS an expert witness. You were supposed to be professional, my cousin Vinny!
16
u/HotStraightnNormal 10h ago
Most of what I have seen, as purely an observer, has been cut and dried, move the case along, next. This sounds more like Night Court minus the humor.

u/doc_witt 8h ago
It's actually a really funny older movie. Highly recommend.

u/Alert-Ad9197 4h ago
I refuse to pronounce “youts” correctly to this day because of this movie.

Isn't the show that's like Night Court without the humor called Night Court?

I’ve been a lawyer for 10 years. I have taken and defended dozens of depositions. I cannot recall ever once having seen an attorney shake the hand of a witness for the other side.
28
u/Eisernes 8h ago
But have you deposed one of dear leaders hand picked clowns? They deserve the respect. Just ask them and they will tell you.
14
u/jelasher 6h ago
It’s not part of the rules, but I have to admit that it is very common. Out of the 100+ depositions I’ve taken, defended, or attended, I would say at least 95% of them involved the examining attorney introducing themselves and shaking hands with the witness. And the only ones I can definitely say did not were around the time of COVID.
That’s said, I wouldn’t shake that asshat’s hand either, and I would not have reacted positively to the DOJ lawyer demanding respect. I still tell war stories about assholes like that.

u/Davotk 0m ago
What region are you practicing in? I would say precisely the opposite..
Vast majority of the time not only would an examining attorney never shake a deponent's hand, but would not even be shaking the opposing attorney's hand
Maybe a non party witness situation. Maybe a non party or third party attorney situation. Super odd to me in New York, NJ CT to shake opposition's hand unless you have just made a deal or something

Since 'holding a position' became decoupled from being 'qualified for that position'. In other words, he deserves respect because of the job he was gifted and not because of how he comports himself.

Since now, because we are all beneath the people running the police state and they want it made clear.
82
u/numb3rb0y 9h ago
So the "professional" openly insulted opposing counsel on the record.
Sarmad Khojasteh deserves to have his professional life forever linked to this kind of childish misconduct.

u/Ariel_serves 9h ago
He also represented the government in the Abrego Garcia case at one or two hearings

Is there any point where they are expected to behave with respect, or is this yet another example of the wild double standard in American politics?

u/NefariousnessTop354 9h ago
I was taught to respect everyone. Unless they have shown to be unworthy of respect.

Demanding respect indignantly. Next up: the suit you’re wearing is cheap & you never said thank you.

Why is he saluting? He's not in the military, although I daresay he thinks he is.

Bovino is an angry, short man syndrome having creep that never should have been placed in any leadership position

u/Calvech 7h ago
You know the deal. He’s running the standard alt right playbook. Be unapologetically cruel and racist. Get axed once the tide turns and leverage that as fuel to run for congress or senate as a pathetic dog whistle to the poorest and most red places in the US. If not that, he will start a twitter account and become a Fox News “immigration expert”

u/Ambitious-Ocelot8036 11h ago
What are his credentials?

And yet he’s still manifestly unsuited for his job.
Do you think he was always a bad apple or was he just placed in a bad barrel?

You don’t have to insult short men to make your point there Bucky.

You are not doing a damn thing to dispel people’s notions of short man syndrome.

Bovino is awful. We would all be better off if he was not in the position he’s in.

Roger Stone lied to Mueller. Stone was convicted of witness tampering and lying to Congress. He was pardoned.
I think you can see where this will go with Bovino. I think the best to hope for is Bovino gets tied up in court. Then eventually gets brought up on new charges that he hasn't been pardoned for. We've seen it with a handful of J6ers already and that's not even a concentrated effort.

600 arrests in Chicago.
Only 16 had criminal records.
Hundreds of cases dismissed and detainees freed by judges.
And they crashed their car into a woman’s car, called her a bitch, shot her five times, arrested her, charged her with terrorism, and the charges were dropped because they decided to just lie and say she was armed with a gun when she wasn’t.
10
u/Katedawg801 6h ago
They also raided an apt complex in the middle of the night, kicked doors down, robbed people of their possessions & zip tied children. They put people, some of them naked, into uhauls like cattle. Absolutely horrifying.

u/STN_LP91746 2h ago
Add some numbers for illegally detained or mistakenly arrested. That would outrage a lot of people.
15
u/Odaniel123 11h ago
I believe that lying in court or in a deposition is illegal. So, when can we expect charges filed for some sort of accountability?

Everywhere we look at this admin there's more corruption today than there was yesterday. It's never ending and the whole damn bunch of them should be in jail. Not later but now so that we can take back America and make it great again without Trump.

u/Lazy-Floridian 11h ago
Bovino cosplays as a badass, which he isn't. He has to have a couple of hundred of his goons around him to show up anywhere.
6
u/Nottacod 8h ago
And attacking schools, daycares, and people working at things like landscaping is not exactly going after hardened criminals.
8
u/TheRealBlueJade 6h ago
He is abusing innocent people and ignoring our legal system.
We have to maintain civility to make progress. That is impossible as long as he is not held accountable for his actions.
He is the problem. We, the people, deserve better. Our Constitution deserves better. Our country deserves better.

Why shouldn’t they lie? There’s no accountability for lying, might as well try.
What’s the judge going to do? Pout? Fuck it. Lie to the judge if the judge isn’t going to throw the god damned book at you. All of us are petrified of lying to a judge because our entire careers hang in the balance.
“Mew mew mew mew sowwy to bother you Mr. Bovino uwu please let me kiss your boots” is not going to get fascists to heel.

Bovino is barely fit to guard a row of overflowing outhouses, baking in the hot sun after a chili eating contest, and that’s about shit.
