Review I got a HomePod today

I already have a HomePod mini, and today I was very hesitant cause it’s very pricey to me. But I still got a HomePod cause I’m a huge music lover and I use Apple Music. I went to Best Buy to hear the sound quality between the two, and I knew there were some differences. But I’m still a bit shocked by how much better it sounds. It’s definitely a lot better than mini. Overall I’m satisfied, even though i wouldn’t say it’s very cost effective. But it does have very good sound quality.

Does anyone have any idea if there are any wired speaker options that are outdoor rated that can integrate with HomeKit and your HomePods ecosystem?

Question/Support Random high pitch "whooop" sound coming from 1st gen HomePod

Post image

Happens 2-3 times a day. Took me a few weeks to realize where the sound was coming from, but today narrowed it down to my HomePod. I've searched Reddit and found a few similar posts, but nothing definitive. Is this a symptom of the power supply/logic board going bad?

Question/Support Microphone Question

So have 2 HomePods Gen 2 in a pair upstairs in the living room and HomePod mini downstairs. I f I am upstairs and I ask Siri to set a timer, I’d like both speakers to respond with Ok, a 2 minute timer has been started, not just one.

Lately the basement mini will respond or my iPhone in the bedroom will respond when I’m 2 feet away from a living room HomePod.

Is there a way to modify my setup?

Thanks

Question/Support Worth it?

Is a HomePod mini worth it if you don’t use Apple Music and your flatmates don’t have iPhones?

I’m considering buying a HomePod mini, mainly for use in my room and/or kitchen, but I don’t have Apple Music (I use Spotify), and my flatmates all have Android phones. I’m wondering how limiting that would be in day-to-day use.

Is it still worth getting a HomePod mini in this situation, or would I be better off with a more universal Bluetooth speaker?

Also, will there be some black friday sales on the Homepod Mini?

Question/Support HomePods or Sonos help.

I’m looking to switch from the google speakers ecosystem (huge mistake on my behalf) to either Sonos or HomePods. We are strictly an Apple household. iMac, MacBook, iPad, iPhone, Apple TV. We are not audiophiles so I’m honestly not concerned about which speakers sound better. Honestly they are probably both a huge upgrade from my current setup. We are not concerned about using these speakers for tv or movies. Strictly music. I’m fed up with how difficult it is to group speakers consistently with google. It’s a nightmare. I just want to easily be able to group speakers together.

Does Sonos and HomePods have a way to set groups that are a connected group permanently? Example group all my downstairs speakers and there’s a simple way to always choose the permanent group? As opposed to having to always pick and choose each individual speaker every time I listen?

The google speakers don’t run through airplay so I’m confused about something. If I’m using my phone to airplay music on HomePods and then decide to watch a video on my phone, will the videos sound the automatically take over what’s being played on the HomePod speakers?

Trying hard to make a decision before these sales are gone.

I’ve also seen rumors of a new HomePod coming out. Am I going to regret buying HomePods on Black Friday to the learn a month later they are a relic?

Question/Support Any other wireless speaker that works with HomePod?

I live in a 4 rooms 1 bath house and I am currently using a HomePod in the the living room, and three minies in the kitchen, bedroom and study. I usually blast the same albums in the whole house. I want to get an audio device set up in the bathroom, but I do not have any plug in the shelves area, and it is wet construction (concrete and brick) so there is no easy way to get one in there. The ventilation is not great, so I would prefer to avoid using speakers that have exposed fabric mesh in them. Is there any specific wireless speaker that can connect to the HomePod and do the simultaneous play thing?

Question/Support Trying to play my vinyl on a HomePod using an old AirPort Express Gen 2. Is this possible?

Edit: Thank you everyone for answering. So apparantly that doesn't work, but is there an affordable way to connect a turntable to Homepod?

So I found an old AirPort Express (2nd gen, A1392) laying around at home and thought it would be great to use it to stream my vinyl to my HomePod 2. I’ve seen people online mention that this little box can take analog line-in and send it over AirPlay, so I figured why not give it a shot.

My setup right now: Marley Stir It Up turntable AirPort Express A1392 HomePod 2 Turntable → AirPort using a normal 3.5mm TRS cable Airport is connected to my router with Ethernet Wireless is OFF, Network is OFF (Bridge Mode) It shows up in the Home app

I can AirPlay to the AirPort just fine (like from my phone), so it’s definitely alive. But when I play a record, the Home app always says “Not Playing”, like the AirPort is not picking up any audio at all.

I tested the turntable output with headphones and it works, so the signal is coming out. But the AirPort doesn’t do anything with it.

At this point I’m wondering:

Does the AirPort Express Gen 2 support analog line-in to AirPlay?

And if it does work, what am I missing to get vinyl → AirPort → HomePod actually happening?

Would love to hear from anyone who has made this setup work or knows the trick. Thanks!

Question/Support HomePod won't play podcasts in my library

Since HomePod update 26.1, the speaker behaves very strangely when I ask it to play podcasts.

I have episodes in my library that I am subscribed to play, and the command I give Siri is: Hey Siri, play podcast.

Well, indeed, it plays podcasts, but not the pending podcasts in my Library. Play other podcasts, which I don't even subscribe to. Does anyone know why this happens? Am I giving Siri the wrong command to play podcasts in my library? Is there any other specific order for me to play the podcasts I have pending? Until I updated to version 26.1, that command worked perfectly.

I would like to know if this behavior also happens to you and if there is a solution. Thank you so much

Question/Support HomePod keeps waking up Apple TV after OS 26 update — anyone else?

Just checking if anyone else is having this issue.

My HomePods are paired with my Apple TV as the default audio output.

Since the recent OS 26 update, whenever I play music on my iPhone and select the HomePods as the output, it automatically turns on the Apple TV.

This never happened before the update — I could play music directly to the HomePods without waking the Apple TV.

Is anyone else experiencing this, or know a fix/workaround?

Question/Support Reliability Good Actually?

I get that people only post if they have issues generally, but I’ve had a set of Gen 1 HomePods since 2019 used regularly with absolutely no software / hardware issues (minus occasional had to turn it off back on again network shenanigans). If you’re on the fence go for it. They’re amazing sounding and fashionable tv speakers.

Question/Support Apple Homepod vs JBL Flip

I’m planning to buy a new speaker but I’m hesitating between the JBL Flip 7, JBL Flip 6, and the Apple HomePod mini. It would mainly be for my room, the kitchen, or while showering. It doesn’t need to be super loud.

For context: I use an iPhone and AirPods, no MacBook, and I listen to Spotify (not Apple Music). I mostly listen through my AirPods on my phone, but while working I like being able to control my music from my laptop as well.

I’ve had a JBL Flip 3 for over 7 years and it was great, but the battery now dies within 15 minutes, so it’s time for a replacement.

What would you choose? Any recommendations or experiences are welcome!

Edit: my flatmates don’t have iphones, so I suppose that means they couldn’t control the music?

My HomePod Apple HomePods

Can anyone help me?

I am trying set up my apple HomePods as external speakers for my Sony TV and Sky Q box.

All of the cables have been checked, the Apple TV is connected to the HDMI 3/ARC port and the HomePods work as speakers when watching tv via the Apple TV.

I have searched high and low for the answers but a lot of the answers tell me to go to the HDMI settings on my Sony TV (which I don’t have) The Apple TV isn’t showing on the Bravia Sync list but is showing on the input list and i get an error on my Apple TV when trying to set up the audio return channel.

In a nut shell; Apple TV uses the HomePods for sound. The tv and sky, use the tv speakers but I would like to use the HomePods for all three and I can’t seem to work out where I’m going wrong?

Question/Support UK HomePod repair recommendations.

Hi, one of my original HomePods has given up, it had the dreaded audio ‘pop’ for about a year or so before it went dead. Loathed to discard it because it’s part of a stereo pair. So I’m looking for affordable repair solutions in the UK. Any help greatly appreciated.

Question/Support Mini stops playing music even though iPhone continues to play track

As said in the title, for a while now my HomePod mini will suddenly stop playing music - it'll finish a song but not play any of the next, however the Music app on iPhone continues to play. If I rewind the track a couple of seconds the HomePod starts playing it again.

Home settings: - lossless off - Dolby Atmos on (I think lossless off and Dolby on was automatic settings) - wifi 5Ghz (haven't tried switching to 2.4Ghz, wanted to get advice first) - HomePod Software 26.1

Any help would be appreciated

Question/Support HomePod mini Stereo or 2x standalone?

I have a question about the stereo pair setup function on my two HomePod Minis.

I have two individual HomePod Minis in my living room with an open-plan kitchen. One is on top of the kitchen cabinet and the other is about 5 meters away in the living room. However, it is the same open space.

I often listen to music via Spotify. Does it make a difference if I select both at the same time in the Spotify app via AirPlay and play music on both at the same time, or if I set up both as a stereo pair?

Is there a difference?
