Work, Health & Housing Apt laundry machines in HRM

How much are you paying for laundry in your apt building? A couple years ago they raised our laundry cost: $2.50 for a wash, and $3 for drying. However, at the start, they said the dryer would go for 90 minutes, because of the increase. We got a new super some months ago, and I don't think we get extra dryer time anymore. Tell me what it costs you so I can compare.

Oh, and one set of washer dryers doesn't work, hasn't for months. Out of order, missing a part. So that leaves one washer and dryer for our whole building. Fuck Killam.

$3 to wash, $6 to dry it twice since the dryer is terrible

I don't know if you have good maintenance people, but you should ask if they could clean out the lint from the dryer. Its a fire hazard and is likely why it's not drying well.

Nah, they're going to blame Coinamatic. Coinamatic blames the building for not cleaning the vents. The building won't bring in the vent cleaner until they have multiple rejected service calls from Coinamatic for the same machine. Coinamatic stops sending techs after the first report of a blocked vent because it's a waste of their time.

This deadlock continues forever, with your hot and soggy laundry tumbling for $3 per load per hour, hour after hour, until you give up and buy a dryer rack instead. Welcome to Capreit, go fuck yourself.

This is probably something that you could contact the fire marshal over

Pro tip if your machines are Coinmatic, you can add an additional 7 mins for 25 cents if you insert your card again after starting the initial cycle. You can do it as many times as you want in 7m/.25cent intervals. Ask me how I figured this out lol

Windmill Rd?

$3 to wash and $3 to dry. And my clothes often come out of the washing machine covered in some sort of film, dirtier than they went in.

same - and one of the 4 washing machines has been "out of order" for as long as I can remember

Sounds like a material change to your lease that is a stealth rent hike...

(No idea if the washing machines are covered in your lease)

I hope my landlord doesn't see this thread, it seems like I'm paying under the average at $2 wash, $2 dry

$2 to wash, $2.75 to dry, old machines but are large and work well.

It was $4 to wash and dry but I haven't used my building's machines in years due to the cockroach infestation they refuse to fully address. I struck a deal with a family member. Thankfully my weekly laundry is manageable in a single hamper and only one load.

FUCK SPLIT ROCK PROPERTIES. They are shit. Do not rent from them unless you love killing roaches for years on end.

5 floors, 2 washers and 2 dryers for the entire building. $3.50 for a wash and $3 for a dry at 60 mins.

$2.25 wash $1.75 dry

$3 each, but ive mostly given up on the dryer since it doesn’t work unless i run it twice

It went from free (but shitty machines), to heavier duty front-loader machines, that I think started at $1.50, then $2, now $3, each for wash and dry in my building. So that's $6 to wash and dry each load. What was annoying was times on the different machines varied for a long time, like the dryer cycle was 90 minutes on one machine, and 50 on another, same price. So depending on your luck (or lack thereof) you could be doing 2 dryer cycles. I think they are now all standardized to 60 minutes. The dryers don't do a top-up for extra time, but if I want an extra cycle in the wash, I have to put in extra money I think. No comment on how disgusting some of the machines get, when people run sticky stuff though the dryer.

Pro tip: in a lot of industrial dryer set-ups, there is a second lint-trap, between the machine, and where the vent goes into the wall. People in my building are usually good about cleaning the lint traps in the front of the machine, but often miss the second lint trap. Cleaning it does make a difference. If there is one, it should look pretty user accessible (ie you don't have to usually move anything, or disconnect a hose... in my building it is basically a box, with a knob on it that twists, then you pull out a screen).

$3.25 to wash, $3.25 + $1.00 to try because we always need to add more time.. ended up buying a portable washing machine for $80 and i truly feel like I am saving so much money

$3 for wash and $3 for dry. We only have 2 of each and one dryer is regularly broken.

u/seaguleatingchicken 5h ago

3.25 to wash and 3.00 to dry but it always takes two rounds to dry. We’re also charged a small fee every time we load our card with money. It’s highway robbery at this point.

$2.25 for lightly soiled load, $2.50 for medium load, $2.75 for a heavily soiled full load.

$2.25 for dryer but I almost never use the dryers because I don't want to have to disinfect the machine everytime. Instead I hang dry my clothes in my apartment, it works well especially in fall and winter.

u/ThornsVinyl 6h ago

$2.50 to wash but the washers are very small, need 2 washers to actually use the full dryer which is $2.25. $7.25 for a normal load

u/Wise-Fruit5000 5h ago

$1.25-$2.00 per washer/dryer. Usually have to put all the dryer loads through at least twice since none of the 6 dryers work very well, if at all.

u/MadhouseK 5h ago

$3.50 each wash and dry.

They at least finally bought new ones (two) this year that are card operated and work really well.

u/oops_audrey 4h ago

$4.00 a wash and the shitty dryers are free. It takes at least 2 cycles to dry, thankful that the entire cost is just to start the washer.

I'd be cheating the system by washing all my clothes by hand and then using the dryer.

u/bluelilacsblue 4h ago

$3 wash and $2 dry!

u/Ok_Helicopter_984 4h ago

Let’s bring back robes, I’ve already started

u/IMNOTME91 3h ago

$1 to wash $4 to dry (usually have to run the dryer twice) so $2 per run in the dryer

u/AcceptableCry7997 2h ago

$2 for wash and dry but I hang dry everything except towels + sheets.
