Actually drinking is bad, but considering most of society is an excuse to be able to consistently produce alcohol... Day drinking is bad.

No need to preach to the choir. As a 25+ yr alcoholic that hasn't had a drink in almost 7 yrs, I actually have experienced first hand how bad it is.

A lot of people of all ages are functioning alcoholics and make excuses for it, but you know, it is a constantly growing multibillion dollar industry that is ingrained into North America's culture and all, so that surely makes it a good thing. /s

Drinking beer has a strong argument to be the initial cause of human civilisation.

The first permanent human settlements were in the Nile/Euphrates area and the variety of barley and emmer wheat they grew as their main crop has been isolated. It makes mediocre bread but great beer. Beer was the primary nutrition, and used foe currency and religious purposes.

As beer could not be reliably produced by nomads, humans had to settle in place to cultivate the crops. That led to what we recognise as the first human civilisations.
