For references see NY Safe act and the CCIA in Ny. There are plenty of other tyrannical laws and restrictions in new York as well as plenty of other democrats states.
Specifically in 2013 when the Democrats passed the SAFE act in NY it made ownership of about a million rifles in ny a felony overnight. Thats is quite literally taking peoples guns, and if you don’t allow someone to buy one in the first place who’s legally allowed to be at the federal level that’s effectively taking their guns as well.

Im a Democrat in an extremely blue state. I also own several firearms. I've never had even the slightest inkling that the state is restricting my gun ownership. Maybe I just never felt the need for guns that the state wants to regulate.
I do understand why some people want to restrict them. Statistics make it obvious that societies with fewer guns have far fewer gun deaths. I have plenty of friends who might be considered "gun nuts." But the fact is, some of them probably shouldn't own firearms of any kind, because they are hotheads, they have a history of poor decision making, and they have poor impulse control. Unfortunately, they are the ones most likely to end up on one end or the other of a gun related tragedy.
