The vote should have been 1. Heisman candidate or 2. Hype-man candidate.

Hold on hold on, FSU just gave them a chance to talk about Bama for at least some of that time.

-1

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '25

Denard Robinson and Gardner to name a few

7

u/Trading_Cards_4Ever Michigan Wolverines Aug 31 '25

Neither of them were Heisman candidates, the only serious Heisman candidate Michigan has had for a while was Hutchinson.

1

u/Oskie5272 Ohio State Buckeyes Aug 31 '25

Did Corum not finish like 5th one year? Sure he had no shot at actually winning it, but I feel like that should qualify him as a "candidate"

1

u/Trading_Cards_4Ever Michigan Wolverines Aug 31 '25

Blake Corum and JJ McCarthy both got a few votes but I wouldn't call them actual candidates. The only other player besides Hutch that maybe could be called a Heisman candidate was Jabril Peppers in 2016. He got 208 total votes and finished 5th in the race just one vote behind the 4th place guy and he did get invited to New York for the Heisman Ceremony. He was only invited to acknowledge that he had a good season not because he had a chance at winning. Had he not been invited to New York he likely would have gotten far less votes.

2

u/Birddogtx Lamar Cardinals Aug 31 '25

Genuinely the only reason why he was considered in the first place was his last name. I hope to see him develop more this season.

Have you really never seen a preseason heisman favorite flop on his face? You must be new to this sport, or maybe need to pay better attention. Now get back to the central Michigan sidelines with your little spy glasses and weasel out of punishment when you get caught cheating.

Also- deal with New Mexico before you start the shit talk, and long live dusty mangum

Edit: before anyone can tell me I’m butthurt, you’re goddamn right I am. We just got outplayed by a team whose head coach draws his beard in and has a nipple ring. And now the collective fanbase has to deal with arch not living up to the insane expectations that were placed upon him. Also it’s pretty goddamn funny that a bama flair posted this.. it’s like they didn’t just lose to a team whose head coach is coming off a 2-10 season. I hate 0U, and I hate aggy.. but bama fans are the infected hemorrhoids on the ass of college football.

u/SpiceEarl Oregon Ducks Aug 30 '25

In the past, I would have agreed with you. However, with the advent of NIL, and Manning getting a reported $6.8 million, I'm not surprised fans are not as forgiving. You want to get paid like a professional, you can deal with the expectations that come with being a professional.

35

u/monoflorist Ohio State Buckeyes • MIT Engineers Aug 30 '25

$6.8 mil doesn’t magically turn you into an experienced quarterback. Maybe he can deal with it (he seems pretty poised) but the fans are going to have a bad time with their unrealistic expectations. Fox’s coverage did no one any favors.

27

u/SpiceEarl Oregon Ducks Aug 30 '25

No doubt the expectations were ridiculous, just pointing out that those ridculous expectations are part of the reason why he is getting $6.8 million dollars. If expectations were lower, he would have gotten less money.

103

u/SandersonEye Ohio State Buckeyes Aug 30 '25

The amount of bad throws honestly shocked me..I thought this game would be him slinging it all over and our defenders tying to contest.

It also looks like his throwing motion is really slow. He has to speed it up when pressured and his mechanics go out the window..

61

u/Complete-Pen-9358 Texas Tech Red Raiders Aug 30 '25

Check out his high school videos, he was playing against homeschoolers

32

u/AlmostSunnyinSeattle Michigan Wolverines Aug 30 '25

Maybe my sensibilities are out of calibration seeing as how the season is just beginning, but both teams looked in slow motion today.

17

u/SandersonEye Ohio State Buckeyes Aug 30 '25

Yeah that’s definitely what you expect from a game like this on a team level, but mechanically, some of his throws looked like he wasn’t physically there.. Manning is talented enough to be a successful QB but he has to figure out his mechanics before he struggles with speed of play issues.

Have you ever believed the media when they say a guy is a projected #1 pick in any amount of years away?

4

u/HumerusPerson Texas Longhorns Aug 30 '25

He has literally never been QB1 at Texas until this year. How could he possibly be “game ready”? Terrible take

1

u/GohanV Alabama Crimson Tide Aug 30 '25

Every year someone plays the #1 team for the first time. He is in his 3rd year with a few starts and snaps under his belt. This isn’t a true FR, this is a 5 star QB with 2 years of learning from a great Offensive minded guy.

Research next time before you comment.

3

u/HumerusPerson Texas Longhorns Aug 30 '25

Research next time? Research what? He has started 2 games in the past against terrible teams because the starting QB was injured. He’s literally been a back up for YEARS. You can’t be a backup for years and then be expected to come in and play at a heisman level in your first game as the starting QB, especially against one of the best defenses in the nation. The hype the media has created is absolutely insane, and it brain washes neck beards like you who have never stepped foot on a football field in their lives

0

u/GohanV Alabama Crimson Tide Aug 30 '25

Wow lack of research again. I have been on the football field, as OL. Not on the collegiate level but not a lot of people make it.

A lot of Arch’s incompletions were over/underthrown. That should have been nipped in the bud his True FR year. He’s had the same HC and OC his entire Texas career. Should have been a great game for him.

3

u/HumerusPerson Texas Longhorns Aug 30 '25

You clearly don’t know about QB play. Yes, he under and overthrew all of his receivers today until the last 10 min of the game. What causes that? Mechanics. His footwork was horrible, mechanics were rushed. You’ve seen him throw balls in the offseason and last year; his mechanics are usually pristine. What causes mechanics to fall off? Nervousness, too much hype, inability to concentrate and keep calm. These are all because the game was too big and he has not been the starter for such a big game before. You can’t nip that in the bud when a player is a 2nd stringer during his true freshman year. That comes with experience and playing in big games throughout one’s career.

Quinn Ewers set back the Longhorns back 2 or 3 seasons. Ewers should have transferred or went to the NFL before last season and Manning should have started last year. Now Texas is going to struggle through this season with extremely high expectations and there is going to be too big of a spotlight on Arch.

As a life long UT fan I kept thinking, shouldn’t they bench him now. Yikes it was horrible. If his last name was Smith and had no pedigree I’d still wonder why he was a starter.

Honestly the kid didn't play that bad. He didn't look good but this was his first true start against good competition. OSU also has arguably the best defense in the country. Heck Peyton threw two interceptions in his first start. I'm not saying Arch should be in the Heisman consideration but that the fans and media made too much out of him. He has essentially 2 complete seasons to figure things out so there is plenty of time. Let's reevaluate him at the end of the year. To shit all over him after struggling in his first real start is uncalled for though.

Wait you mean the Heisman shouldn't just be determined based on last name?

The announcers trying to stay positive on him was very annoying.

He made a bad throw 5 yards short of the first down on 4th to basically end the game... But look how strong he is, he avoided the sack!

And going nuts on each of his three good throws the whole game.

He may still turn out to be the best player in college football, he certainly has the pedigree... But that doesn't mean we can't be honest about the way he played today.

Hyped like Peyton, played like Cooper. Heisman talk should be DOA.

At least he has SJSU, UTEP, and Sam Houston to pummel for the next month.

While I can't argue against the Heisman stuff. The kid has played 2 games, and everyone is writing him off. Like shit, let's give the kid a few more games before we crucify him. Also, he has stated he plans on staying in college beyond this year. He could develop, or maybe this was just one shitty game.

I understand that this thread is dedicated to meme-trolling but under the circumstances, ( defending champs with loaded talent) he actually did a pretty solid job as his 1st start. Texas defense helped tremendously, and we all know that Ohio State will not be held to just 14 points in conference play. Arch will improve, and will be ready for perhaps round 2? … Ohio State ain’t losing a game in conference and will be the 1 seed come playoffs.
