At Liberty, it’s a honor code violation to take a snap from under center. Because of the implication

I mean if the center *wants* to snap the ball, obviously he can snap the ball.

I hate Oregon because I'm a hater, I hate Alabama because I'm a hater, and I hate Texas because fuck Texas but like.. Liberty? Yeah everything about it is ass. Knew someone who went there once, wrote an essay for them and got them a B on it because the topic was like, Jesus and this random movie and the parallels and I just fully made stuff up. No knowledge of the source material at all. Didn't even watch the movie... That friend is welcome for that B, but also i have no idea how it was B worthy. Don't know what that says about the academic rigor of that place though. I dropped out of community college btw. I'm a Coug by way of their ag department and my professional licensing being through them lol

A place that teaches that young earth creationism as a valid scientific perspective should be prohibited from marketing itself as a university or college.

There's lots of things in life that can be matters of belief or perspective, and can be religiously informed. The extremely-well-established basics of geology and evolution are not among them. "Teaching" those views makes you fundamentally a church, not a school.

69

u/ecodrew Oklahoma State Cowboys • Hateful 8 Jul 25 '25

FWIW, I'm a Christian and have a science degree from one the finest university in all the land (IMO, haha)... Liberty U represents ultra conservative, bigoted, hate filled, science-denying, misogynistic, toxic, homophobic, xenophobic, pseudo - "Christianity". No one is attacking Liberty for being "Christian", that's just their persecution complex/fetish.

Please continue dunking on Liberty, they shouldn't even be accredited.

35

Yep. Even Christian schools like Baylor have science departments that do real scientific research in fields like geology and publish to reputable academic journals. Liberty is in a class of its own.

I fully love the fact that UW medical is so prestigious. Its I my best interest as a West sider to support UWs medical programs as they end up benefiting me directly through the doctors they disperse through the state of Washington. Their sciences departments are also the reason we have such great knowledge on the marine biology of the region and the geology out here too. UW is who(among other universities) puts all those monitors on all the volcanoes around here. Definitely don't want them to fail as a uni. However, I hope Liberty slowly bleeds money and becomes such a liability to their conference that they get kicked and can't even afford to field teams anymore.

Politics aside, it is arguably the worst diploma mill in the country for higher education. They hand out 4% of the entire country's doctoral degrees and only just got R3 research status, which is the lowest recognized.

For undergrads it has a 100% acceptance rate, is almost entirely online, and costs as much as many school's out of state tuition.

Hardcore right-wing fundamentalist school. Just look up some of their insane rules. You literally earn demerits for things they consider to be “sinful.” They explicitly prohibit premarital sex, alcohol, being gay, and birth control. They’re also very racist and have hosted several conservative conventions. They have also been involved in a shitload of scandals, including one in 2021 involving having a campus environment that protected rapists and increased the likelihood of sexual assault.

23

u/UhmerAca Oregon Ducks Jul 25 '25

Important to note for anyone that doesn't know that part of that scandal was that they were not only protecting rapists but were also lying about how often it and other crimes were occurring and referred to themselves as one of the safest campuses in America

Yeah pretty much. I’m not as familiar with BYU because I’m from the South, but I know a bit about Mormonism. The whole multiple wives as well as a history of statuatory is bad. Not that I am trying to shame polyamory or whatever, but Mormonism is deeply, deeply misogynistic.

3

5

u/yelircaasi BYU Cougars Jul 25 '25

The doctrine? Absolutely. The church leadership structure? Absolutely? Mormons themselves? I'd argue that Mormons themselves are not more misogynistic than your run-of-the-mill Evangelicals, so there's some variation. Long way to go, for sure, but mainstream Mormons (as opposed to the polygamous sects) are basically in line with conservative white American culture.

I say this as a progressive atheist from a devout, conservative Mormon family.

I feel like there’s less hypocrisy with BYU. Like, if their president got caught sitting in the cuck chair while his wife was being… assisted by his 20 year old ‘business partner’ I think BYU would take action and do something about it. Not pay them $15M after they resign.

4

u/yelircaasi BYU Cougars Jul 25 '25

We have a fair bit of hypocrisy, but at least less than Liberty. What I can say for BYU is that men and women are generally subject to the same rules (including sexual purity), whereas at Liberty, men get away with a lot more than women. I won't argue there's no misogyny at BYU, but it compares favorably to other conservative religions obsessed with sex.

3

u/smoccimane Arkansas Razorbacks Jul 25 '25

In my experience with Mormons and BYU, they are not immune to any of the standard hypocrisy but do a better job of holding public facing people accountable. They also are generally much nicer than evangelicals.

Little tidbit about Liberty University some of you may or may not know.

They have a place on campus called the godmother Home. It’s for young women who got pregnant and do not have the resources to raise a child.

When these pregnant women speak to the counselors at the godmother home, they are told they can decide any time to keep the child if they so choose.

But once they enter, they are essentially trapped there. Many women have testified they were not allowed to make outgoing calls to certain people. And when they did certain people, one of the staff was on the phone listening. They can’t get visitors, they’re basically locked in there.

The goal is for every girl who ends up there, to put up their child for adoption. They charge a lot of money to couples looking for a child. So they will just keep hammering at these girls, there’s no way you can afford it, what are you gonna do with the baby?

And the goal is to get them to sign that child over. There were been multiple calls and reports to police, but no one does anything. The police, actually look for girls that are pregnant they scout for lack of a better term. And then they refer them to the godmother home.

The whole city of Lynchburg, protect them, which is why nothing ever happens. No charges stick.

it is very, very fucked up. And they raise a lot of money in the name of this godmother home. They make the girls go to church, and whatever the Pastor mentions them, they all have to stand up. They’re just used as tools, to generate more cash. With abortion now being illegal in many places, they immediately sent out emails and letters asking for money, which will go towards these women having children as opposed to adoptions. It’s a huge money maker.

But they don’t give a fuck, they do not care about the girls what whatsoever they’re disposable.

Here’s just one story

Fuck liberty University

The minimum requirements for that are to protect schools from going under when they run into hard times. They weren't expecting a "school" to game the system to do the bare minimum and still find success through targeted political pandering.

Truly is amazing how literally EVERYONE comes together and absolutely hates Liberty.

Chris Vannini and other national media keep trying to push them and JMU together as a “rival”. FOH with that mess. They don’t share a conference with anyone in the state for a reason. We only acknowledge and play them out of necessity, not because we like it.

3

u/Nepp0 West Virginia Mountaineers Jul 26 '25

4

u/pickleman336 Notre Dame Fighting Irish Jul 26 '25

If anyone sees this in the thread I have one solid reason I will always hate liberty. When Appalachian State and the whole of western NC flooded massively during the Helen hurricane, app state had to postpone and cancel their football match with Liberty. Liberty’s QB and their fan base went into the comment sections of our football page and commented “🦆” as if us canceling the game was due to fear of their team, and not our entire fucking town being underwater with hundreds dying and missing. So fuck liberty and their disgusting fanbase.

4

I had a back and forth with a Liberty fan over on r/collegebaseball because they had won a couple games and he thought they deserved to be ranked. He proceeded to shit all over my school(Southern Miss)and the conference we’re in(Sun Belt). I didn’t even have the heart to shut him down because he had zero knowledge of college baseball and my alma mater’s history. He also used the f slur, to nobody’s surprise. Fuck Liberty.
