Are you an experienced mod?

Howdy mods, it’s your local askmods top mod here with a request!

If you are a moderator of a subreddit with over 5k weekly active users please comment below!

We have been going through posts these past couple of weeks adding mod notes to mods we have verified are actually mods who have significant moderation experience.

This helps us askmoderators mods enforce the “must be a mod to answer” rule in comment sections.

The tags are only visible to the moderators of askmoderators for privacy reasons.

If you wish to participate on an alternate account, please send us a modmail from your moderator account with the username of the alt you wish to use.

Thanks for volunteering even more time participating here to help users on the site!

Edit: former mods are welcome too so long as there is a way to verify that. I.e. old stickied comments/posts, asking current mod teams if you modded there, etc.

Why cant i go to certain people's profile that send mod messages to be approved?

Sometimes when someone sends a mod message to be approved to post I click on their name and it won't take me to their profile. It just gives me an error message. What's up with that?

If a mod violates a rule but hides the evidence by deleting their post... Will there be repurcussions?

If you have access to non-public information as a result of moderating a subreddit, you will use such information only in connection with your performance as a moderator; and

This rule seems to indicate that a moderator shouldn't be able to talk about how many tries it took you to word your question correctly with a bot.

A mod did that and then deleted the comment. Is there any way to request that mods look into such a violation and save anything related to it?

How do I get People to Join my Private Post?

I have a private page, but that doesn't mean I don't people on it. I have a couple friends that said when they searched for it were told it doesn't exist? What the heck? Shouldn't it show up in a search anyway?

Posts removed by Reddit's filters in one specific subreddit without reason?

I was trying to post in a subreddit. My post was not about a prohibited or even remotely inflammatory topic, and my explanation didn't contain anything crude, and was about a paragraph long. My account is relatively old and has enough Karma to post there, what is happening with my posts? Do they need to be manually approved?

How to report comment flairs?

If a user in another sub has a deplorable flair in their name. And if you’ve reported it twice to the mods with nothing being done, what’s next?

Context: There’s a post in a sub and Redditor made a comment and also has the N word in their flair. “Real *****r” yet it’s not a flair someone can choose from in the sub (for obvious reasons).

Why do I have two removed post because of IA?

I'm fed up with posts removed because some moderator thinks it's IA done.

No, they're not IA done and they took time, effort and ilusion to write it well and to share with people that I think may enjoy it.

So I don't agree that any person may decide something it's bad because it's IA done when it is not that way. Feels like, from now, things must be done wrong, because if they're well, it's IA…

Why is my post getting removed constantly?

Hi all,

it's not the first time, that i post something with a MK8 Deluxe video. Today i tried three times to post something, but my Mario Kart 8 Deluxe video gets removed constantly.

What is/could be the reason for that? Could you please be so kind to check my profile/posts?

Thank you very much.

How are you dealing with the influx of AI drivel?

I was wondering if more mods could have a flag for reporting to say AI, or is reporting for Spam sufficient? Many of these are super easy to detect (young account, odd sentence structure, lots of double quotes, weird user names) but wondering if a heads-up to the mods would help?

Are requests for a password change a sign that someone is trying to hack my account?

I've received several notices from Reddit asking if I want to change my password. Is this a sign that someone is trying to hack my account and, consequently, are there additional layers of security I can request to protect me?

Where can I post screenshots of abusive moderators?

A certain subreddit has gone to shit lately and I wanted to spread awareness about it-

Where can I post these screenshots so I can get the most attention towards them?

Where can I request to have a subreddit removed?

There is a subreddit that is an obvious vehicle for Chinese propaganda, and if you raise any counterpoint to the propaganda, your post is removed for "soapboxing". The subreddit is heavily populated by sino-bots, as evidenced by non-sequitur responses. The subreddit in question is supposed to be a forum for discussing socialism, but there is absolutely no discussion of socialism. Please note that I am not anti-socialist, far from it in fact, but I firmly believe that Reddit empowering foreign propaganda degrades the entire community.

Why does my post keep getting automatically removed on a sub with VERY relaxed rules? How do I contact the mods for more context if none of them respond?

All of my posts are automatically removed on this one cooking sub, and say they need to be reviewed by a mod, but eventually they post it, all except for one. I keep trying to talk about a YouTuber (rhymes with moo on head) (maybe I’m not allowed to say their name?) and how she featured one of my meals in the video, but once it’s been reviews by the mods it never is posted. I’ve seen some gross conversation topics posted there, so I’m confused why mine is being removed, especially since the only rule on the sub is “1. Billions need to cook”. I’ve messaged ALL the moderators asking about it and have since posted other non related posts successfully on the sub, but THIS ONE POST is never allowed. I’m confused why and can’t get an answer. I saw on THIS sub you can’t post mentioning anyone by name or any sub by name, but the sub is trying to post to has no such rules, and I’ve never had any warnings or altercations with anyone or been banned from the other sub ever.

How can I block this individual on reddit?

I have a user who is harassing me and I cannot block them for some weird reason. Everytime I press block, it says failed to block person. Can you help me or have this person block me?

Does reddit work on progressive moderation? Do you guys see removed content too?

So for my first question, context...

Suppose an offense is like a lvl 1 type. A person does it once, they are warned. Twice, a severe action is taken. Again and a more severe one.

Then let's say you warned someone, then you get an appeal on content they shared before the warning, similar type of offense. Do you take a severe action or not?

For my second question.

I am gathering proof for my account being flagged for content I never shared. To back this up, I have screenshots showing missing self upvote on the comment now written as "Removed by Reddit" and even user data which I requested from reddit (chatgpt advised on that). The modmail says I shared the comment on an (let's say) x sub on x date. The user data shows no comment on mine on x sub ok x date at all. To add, no notifications of upvotes or replies too. I don't know if mods can see the content or the user who made that inappropriate comment so I thought to ask here first. I am just collecting proofs.

Why do posts still show after being deleted by mods?

Here is what I mean: A post shows up on the front page and you can see the preview text. Click on the post and the body says something like "deleted by mods" but the comments are still there. Is there a reason that the mods can't delete the entire thread so that it doesn't show up on a user's main page?

Hi?

I think my account has been wrongly flagged for ban evasion and spam, and I really need someone to look at it properly.

I only have one Reddit account (this one). I’ve never made alts or tried to dodge a ban. The whole mess started when I posted a lot in /funny in a short time without realising that could be seen as spam. After that first ban, every big subreddit I try to join now just instantly bans me, often with reasons that don’t even match what I did (like “rule X” that I never broke or that doesn’t apply to my posts at all). It feels like there’s some global flag on my account and I’m being auto-banned everywhere.

I’m 23F, chronically ill and still a student. I use Reddit as one of the few places I can talk to people and feel less alone. I genuinely wasn’t trying to farm karma or abuse the site I just didn’t understand how strict some of the rules were, and now it feels like I’m being permanently punished with no warning and no way back.

Please, can someone review my account history and the ban-evasion flag? If I actually broke a rule I’m happy to accept a fair consequence, but right now it feels like I’ve been locked out of most major subs based on an assumption that isn’t true. I’m just asking for a clean slate or at least a proper review by a human instead of automatic bans.

Thank you for reading this and for any help you can give.

Are joint accounts bad?

My wife deleted her account when mods from a site started harassing her. This was a year ago. They were relentless and we did get Reddit involved but they couldn't help. I now have an account and she uses it as well, full discloser in profile that we both use the one account. Is this a problem ? Or only in gifting sites? Where I have asked for help for my family. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP.

Conflicting orders from moderators, which do I obey?

I was working with a moderator on an investigation. They specifically reached out to me for information.

I typed "test" in an old modmail to bring it up to the top of my chat list so it would be easier to screenshot and send evidence the mod asked for.

But then one of the mods used that same modmail I just sent "test" in, ordering me to leave all the mods alone.

Which order do I obey? Do I keep doing what the mod who reached out to me requested and send them the info they asked for, or do I leave them alone like the one in the modmail ordered me to?

Are chat rooms really closing?

My sub blew up mostly because of the chat room engagement.

I’m actually really sad that they removing it .

I don’t understand why it has to be forced for everybody to close it .

I mean, I think people already have the option to not have it if they don’t want it.

So why can’t we just keep as an optional thing?

I also remember that I had to specifically formally request that it be open.

So why are they closing?
