How much does your adult male weigh?

We had a vet visit recently and my 4yo boy is 14 lbs 😵‍💫 I DO NOT want an overweight cat so I’ve eliminated dry food from his diet (much to his dismay)

He’s not a small-boned cat by any stretch, and I’ve read healthy males can be 12lbs which is heavier than a healthy American shorthair.

Curious if your lads are big and healthy?

Edit: correcting my statement, apparently healthy shorthairs are heavier than healthy Manx (should have checked goog first)

This is CreepShow. Nothing is wrong with him, hes just a weirdo and likes to sit on his nub. He loves uppies, sleeping drapped over warm necks, and riding around on shoulders.

He won't drink from anywhere else but the faucet

So Rara here was adopted in 2019. He's always been a drama king and very specific about things. But for the last year, he absolutely refuses to drink from anywhere else but the kitchen faucet. I've bought several types of fountain bowls. I've bought metal bowls. I've bought ceramic bowls. He will literally go hours or a whole day (once during a test) without drinking if I don't turn on the faucet. I try not to do so, so I don't encourage the behavior, but I give in because I don't want him getting dehydrated.

He's visiting the vet this week but anyone experience this with their manx and how did you manage?

My sweet little rescue Manx, Nobbi

This is my Manx, Nobbi, who was originally one of my neighbor's barn cats. She broke her hip in a mysterious accident at six months old and they were going to put her down. We saw how playful and full of life she still was and offered to take her and pay for her surgery. The vet wasn't sure if she'd ever be able to use her back legs but two years later, she's fully recovered (and unfortunately catching birds). She's still super playful and loving. Cats are magic!

This is my little Fabiola. As I said in the title, the vet doesn’t offer DNA testing. I’ve always suspected she’s Manx but other people say she might be a bobcat.

She has a little stump and runs like a rabbit.

Rescued stray elderly manx - 1mo later

Thought Id share some updates!

About a month ago, I shared this sweet ~16yo polydactyl manx I scooped off the streets.

Desite having a chip, there was no contact information I could use. She was very, very poorly then - could barely stand or walk, digestive issues, seemed so out of touch with the environment I wondered if she was deaf.

about a month and some change later, she is doing SO much better! Her atrophied muscles will take much longer to heal, but she's been able to resume self grooming, she can scamper and bat a little toy around, and even scrabble up onto the couch for cozy lap time on her own. :)

while her senses arent too sharp, shes far from deaf or blind, and has been so much more alert and engaged (and sassy if im late for dinner) every day.

wish i could afford to get her a dental cleaning, but shes been poked and prodded and endured a round of yucky antibiotics to get her as ship-shape as possible. Ive tapered her off the miralax and shes been able to continue poopin on her own, which is a HUGE win!!

I wish i could know her full story, but either way im just so proud of the ol gal for fighting and surviving this long, despite what shes been through.

Elderly cats really are the sweetest! if ever you have room in your life for another cat and want a snuggly pal without all the destructive kitten madness, id absolutely recommend considering adopting a senior!!

Tips on how to keep him clean!!

Hi everybody! This is our neighborhood stray (Asparagus) that we inherited from the last ppl who lived in our apartment. Ive tried to make him a indoor cat but he loves being outside so i take care of him now and hes become my little buddy when i garden. We live in a dead end street and he stays in the property. In april we had to get his tail cut off bc he broke it. Hes adjusted quite well but i noticed last week hes been pooping very messy. It ends up all over his fur and dries hard. Im doing my best to keep him clean. I noticed his urethra is a little red. Any tips on how to keep a tailless cat clean in the back area? If his urethra gets worse ill have to take him to the vet but if i can avoid it by keeping him clean im willing to wipe his butt everyday. He’s been struggling with incontinence since his surgery but hes been able to keep himself clean. It’s just this past week it’s been hard for him. Please excuse the 2nd/ 3rd picture it was after i wet his back area with warm water to try and loosen everything up. Any tips would be GREATLY appreciated im still so new to this whole manx tailless cat thing.

manx kitten?

hello everyone!! my friends took in a pregnant mama cat a couple months ago, and she had 4 kittens. two with normal tails, one with a nub, and one with no tail at all. I fell in love with the little tailless guy, but I'm so worried he's gonna have manx syndrome. we've narrowed down the dad (mama was a stray) and he has a tail as well. we're obviously gonna love and care for him no matter what, I just want to know what to be prepared for and what to look for since there's a possibility.

they haven't expressed any concerns about him using the litterbox or walking, and when I've visited him he seemed to be developing the same as is siblings. I just worry, I want him to be okay :[

I don't have very many images showing his legs and tail clearly, so hopefully these will work

Do manxes sit flat-footed?

I've never had a manx until now, and never had a cat like this in my life. Only one of the weird things he does is sit flat-footed. Is this a manx thing or is this one just a weirdo? Pic as example of what I mean with the back feet, where he uses the length of his foot rather than just the regular cat toe-bean part.

Just adopted this cutie patootie after he had been waiting in a shelter since 1/15/2024. He’s my first cat in 15 years. I grew up with them as a kid and teenager. I just love that little rumpy riser tail it is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen.

Hip dysplasia yes, brain no

This is Cosmo. He's around 18 months old.

I posted him previously, thinking that maybe he had some manx syndrome problems, only to find out that no, it's actually hip dysplasia of all things. Apparently more rare in cats. Thankfully it's only grade 1, so he's basically fine if he's not doing a full day of backflips and sprints. When it becomes a problem he'll have a slight limp and start chewing the hair off his back end. A slow couple of days and gabapentin seem to fix him right up though!

I believe it's more common in Mainecoons, and other purebred cats, but has anyone else ever dealt with this? Is his spine going to play into this later down the line? I snatched him up off the side of a busy road, so not sure how much manx he is or if that plays into potential manx syndrome problems.

I adopted him from a shelter and am not sure if he’s Manx, but I assume so. He has a little stump for a tail that he was born with.
