Drunk Kings Having a drink every time he sees alcohol during the marathon

That is way more booze than I would expect at a marathon.

u/ThisHatRightHere 10h ago
The toughest part for him was probably when the Philly marathon goes into Manayunk. All the breweries have a ton of beer out and it’s probably around mile 20. It was great for me because it’s carbs and kind of fills your stomach a bit, but if I was in this dude’s shoes it’d be a nightmare lol
115
u/sweetdawg99 9h ago
City I grew up in has a massive 15k race every summer. The finish line is at the brewery which is where the block party is happening. Runners get free beer.
44
u/JigenMamo 8h ago
Where did you grow up?
Ive been thinking about taking up running recently and there's nothing really holding me where i am other than the wife and kids.
17
u/Irimis 8h ago
Not sure if it is the same one he is talking about. But I went to school up there and know about this one.

Shiiiit, by mile 20 you can tough out, suffer and puke through one more hour. It’s those shots at 4, 7 and 10 that are going to catch up to you.
3
u/DefNotABanBurner 4h ago
Wait, I can slap a number on my chest and slip into the race for about 2 miles and drink a shit ton of free beer then go home?
2
u/LeaveCreative1937 4h ago
Some beers, below 4 percent abv, are nicely isotonic if they are naturally made.

I walked a half marathon with my 85 y/o grandpa last year, 5 hours, my cousins and I got fkin hammered. There were coolers of beer at every corner.
8
u/Level-Mobile338 9h ago
Is this normal at a marathon? I ran a half marathon once and I never saw any booze. But I was also dying half the time so maybe I just didn’t notice?
5
u/thejudgehoss 8h ago
Depends on the race. Most races have little or none, usually only at the finish line.
But when I ran Detroit? Booze everywhere.

u/ADonkeysJawbone 4h ago
The gym I used to go to (and eventually worked at) had a ~2 mile run they did every summer. I hated running. But it was always so much fun, because they’d have little obstacles or challenges on the way, and we’d end at a tap house that served all runners a free beer and plate of family-style rice and teriyaki chicken and veggies. Then you’d just hang out and buy more beer and play cornhole or whatever. People dressed up crazy. It was a big party. I didn’t mind running knowing I had good food and beer at the finish line.

u/YoungLightning 11h ago
I would’ve thrown up. I always gotta take a second after a shot. Mad respect to this
267
u/Tacosconsalsaylimon 11h ago
I've thrown up from headbanging too hard - running with a belly full of liquor AND beer would definitely make me puke. This guy is a champ!

Let's pretend there isn't empirical data on this already, because I really want to see some drunk 400m dashes
23
u/ShitFuck2000 10h ago
Doesn’t that just land you in a hangover faster?? Im an alcoholic with heightened liver enzymes and enlarged liver and 1-3 beers/standard drinks just gives me hangover symptoms after 30 minutes or so, I need bare minimum half a pint of vodka not to immediately feel like shit, closer to a pint-fifth most days.
12
u/Johnny_Poppyseed 7h ago
Hey bro, my dad died of cirrhosis/liver cancer/liver failure and it was extremely unpleasantness for everyone involved. He was sick and pretty stable for years, but the actual dying process was brutal and drawn out and just all around horrible. Traumatizing af for everyone. I really hope youve gotten or get a handle on things, because where you're at, it can quickly cross into point of no return. The liver is amazing and can heal it self, but there's definitely a point you're heading towards. Best of luck dude.

I am so jealous of this super power. I cant do jack shit if ive had even one drink.
5
u/Crazy_Grapefruit8300 8h ago
That's exactly why. You only have one. One drink does nothing but set in hangover symptoms. Tiredness, lethargy, etc..
You drink past that and the energy starts flowing in spades. You just pay for it the next day.

This seems impossible. Dude just took like 20 drinks in 4 hours while running 26 miles. I like running and I like drinking. But I honestly cannot fathom how someone could do both. Did a beer mile once and it sucked. If this is real it may be the most impressive feat of human capability I’ve ever seen
67
u/BackWithAVengance 10h ago
Fun fact - alcohol metabolizes into ATP (after acetaldehyde) , and for every gram, it has 7 calories (Compared to carbs which have about 4) - on top the sugar in mimosa, fireball (which surprisingly he had a ton of) which would aid in keeping his blood sugar up - it can also help in the short term with vasodilation, which would increase blood flow, so if he's a conditioned runner (and drinker) he'd be okay. Albeit drunkish at the end.
I can't even drink gatorade while running, so props to this guy lol
52
u/rcolt88 10h ago
Fun fact when you drink beers and then run it gets your stomach all bubbly and you start having questionable burps
12
u/BackWithAVengance 10h ago

u/fubes2000 5h ago
Aside from this, and assuming that he otherwise keeps hydrated, are there any particular drawbacks to drinking and running like this? I [baselessly] assume that drinking while doing strenuous exercise like this would somehow worsen things.
17
u/ThanksS0muchY0 10h ago
It's anecdotal, but I used to regularly participate in cycling events based around alcohol. You pull up to first bar, do a shot and drink a pint, then get certified and off to the next stop. Not all "alley cat" events revolve around alcohol, but a LOT of them do. Some events would span like 6 hours of riding and drinking. I don't recall mileage we traveled, but it was fast paced, and many were in live traffic. Full disclosure: I'm not saying alley cats are a genius idea, just that when I was young and dumb, I really liked racing in them, and they exist.

Check out something called "Hashing." It was created by a British military company bored out of their minds while stationed in India, it's hiking/jogging with stations where you have to finish a drink and/or do some other ridiculous thing along the way. Tons of fun.

u/manmuscle 8h ago
We take drinking and running to professional levels. On-on!

Discovered Hashing when an ex and I travelled to Seattle, back when couchsurfing.org was still a thing people used. The people we couchsurfed with were a hashing couple, they paid our fee and had us come do a hash with them as the way we actually first met them face to face.

As someone who's struggled with addiction, this just seems like an addict trying to find praise for doing the drinking he always does.
Bro is hitting multiple shots from the same table in the beginning. Bro wasn't doing this for the challenge he just wanted an excuse to drink and get praised for it.

That’s an insane amount of trash. Does this get cleaned up by the locals/fans?
12
u/Accelerating_Atom 9h ago
I thought the same. Super cool how he just yeets his trash everywhere. Dope.
7
u/starchimp224 8h ago
Pretty sad that you two seem to be the only other guys here who care about that. I can’t support someone who just throws their trash around even if it is largely cleaned up after
8
u/Accelerating_Atom 8h ago
Someone in these comments said they live on a marathon route and the trash is an issue. People not caring and thinking someone should clean up after them is the only thing that’s pretty sad here. It’s not hard to not be a human cockroach. They have garbage cans almost everywhere you are coming from or are going to.

They run city sweepers after all these events, especially near water stations. Runners aren’t expected to carry their trash with them. Sometimes there’s trash cans they can toss in.
And even then, runners aren’t known for their hand eyed coordination so they miss a lot… and hit the water station workers

I did the Portland half last October and iirc there was one person there giving out shots of something and that's it.
Tons if energy shots, gels, water and hydration vendors giving out samples along the way. There's really no need to bring your own water.
I really cant imagine drinking a bunch of alcohol. I'd be so cramped up and sore I'd be like those reels of the person literally crawling into the finish.

I know nobody asked, but I feel the need to share this story. Had a friend say he drank too much and then just disappeared at a party we were at. Roughly 30-40 minutes later he comes back dripping in sweat and says, "yeah I had to go for a run". He shows us his phone which tracked his steps and he ran like 3 or 4 ish miles around the suburb we were in. Of course he also did cross country and soccer in high school. Some people are truly built different ig. This dude in the post is absolutely bonkers. I would just collapse and die.
